I’ve owned both, different engines but the same displacement, loved them both to bits, Yaris was a little more refined but I agree the ignis definitely had more character to it. The recaros and factory enkei wheels were cool too
I have one of these, bought it recently needing a LOT of welding. Was told the factory body kit bits cause the sills to rot extensively. I will say it’s a riot to drive
If a Yaris T-sport winds up being a future classic but the Lupo GTi not I'll begin to question what's happening.
The Ignis sport, panda 100hp, RS Twingo, Colt CZT, Starlet Glanza and of course the Yaris and lupo are all similar cars that have their own followings but most of them will be forgotten.
Only the really nice examples are fetching decent money especially the raven blue. Which is to be expected of course but most I've seen aren't holding any particularly great value, especially compared to similar cars that age.
It's rare for a car to not be launched without fanfare to be honest and what are we classing as "fanfare" here? Good reviews? A lot of press? Because T Sport Yariii had great reviews in period, which was impressive since it came out in a golden age of small fun cars.
A few I can think of though
- VW Corrado
- Toyota Corolla AE86
- Fiat Strada
Basically every Saab.
The more people rice/banger race/roof flip them the good ones are more likely to become that I'm sure. One of those cars that's on the knife edge of being Bradford approved
Whenever I see one of these it reminds me of the older Suzuki Ignis Sport, pretty sure it's the same engine but the Ignis had more character about it
but this is way nicer to look at in my opinion
I prefer the stance on the yaris, the Ignis is a bit high - either way both are fantastic little cars. You're spot on about it being a future classic!
I owned a ignis sport as my first car, and I've owned two Yaris'
Should tell you all you need to know. Though I've never owned a Tsport I prefer the D4D personally. Love mine to bits.

face-lift or preface lift? they are a riot and will still give you 40mpg 🤣
Facelift, grey. 193k on the clock.
nice, I am sure the grey was exclusive! km or Miles?
Miles. Service stamps up to 150k, then invoices to about 180k. Actually not too bad, just rough around the edges.
interesting, keen to see how long it goes for, would love to see one with 500k plus on it
These make good cheap track beaters.
yeah could see why, I just found the seating position a little high

The Lupo GTi is already a classic tbf, they’ve soared in price and dealers are importing some from Japan to get a slice of the pie

yeah,to be fair totally forgot about the colt. Panda 100hp will be the next post! great car!
Yeah, no.
Fun little car, but it just passed most people by when launched.
It's very rare that a car that had almost no fanfare at launch turns into a classic.
fair call, what would you take instead?

ohhh no! keep them away from Bradford
slaps roof of Yaris
