• Metal dymo

Funny thing is the company producing these machines was acquired by Dymo in 1960.

  • Roovers Brothers, Inc. was founded in 1883 (incorporated 1893) by Alexander H. and Alfred W. Roovers in Brooklyn, New York. Its industry is metal tape embossing machines and its headquarters were in Brooklyn, New York (1883-1959) and Old Forge, Pennsylvania (1960-1964). The company was acquired by Dymo Industries in 1960, who later merged its operations with another plant in 1964. The company dissolved shortly after.

Another company by the name Roovers, Inc. was founded in 1993 and is not affiliated with this firm. 1

Roovers metal tag embossing machines use rolls of metal “tape” to create deeply embossed or debossed tags for heavy-duty tagging applications. Characters are embossed one at a time by turning the character selection wheel and then depressing the handle. Tags can be created in variable lengths and then cut off when completed. Holes are punched at both ends for tying, nailing, or riveting tags in place for lasting product identification. 2

Foundry pattern makers use them to make the letters on castings.

They may have held a patent for something critical for Dymo and buying them was the cheapest way to get hold of it

  • Same, a little disappointed tbh. Still cool though

  • Uff. That is sexy af.

  • We still have this thing upgraded with pneumatics at the foundry for stamping model numbers. We don't use it much anymore. Hit me up if anyone wants to buy it lol.

  • this is prime material for a toolgifs easter egg

  • Used one of these on and off for 4+ years in the Navy to label various electrical circuits and boxes. Was pretty fun to use, and it is definitely as heavy as it looks.

  • I was thinking the slanted metal tape seen at the bottom of the press was the material being embossed; didn’t expect the actual piece to drop down from under the handle

If it’s being vertically fed for embossing, won’t it be difficult to gauge the spacing between letters? 🤔

  • You filthy animal!

  • Uhhh, dammm we got one of those! Did not expect to see one here!

  • I have one of these!
