These pages where added months later after the chapter was released on the magazine, because he read all the feedback about the ending.
You may notice he even made a strawman argument with Armin where instead of complaining about plot holes and how It contradicts themes, he talks about not meeting the theories he had and not answering all his questions.

Yeah, the guy himself admits that its not really a masterpiece haha. I personally rank the ending a 3/10 but the series is still a strong 9/10

He saw the mixed reception his original ending had and added extra pages, cried in public, went on interviews apologizing, came the anime and made even more changes.
He always intended for Eren to die. It’s been foreshadowed since the first chapter, we were just blind hoping he would win and him dying was an ok concept but making him the pathetic excuse he was in 139 was an insult to all fans. He dont feel sorry for that tho “real eren is back” ahh

Hideki Anno made a masterpiece when he was a hopeless depressed dude and when he made the remakes after finding love the result was a Disney version of evangelion so that had an effect too
He also mentioned he would go into diff forums and see peoples opinions that’s why he added the most corny phrase ever “slave to freedom” to the anime, so I don’t doubt the og, extra pages and anime changes are all a mix of isayamas own ideas and the majority of the fandom/editors/higher ups wishes coming true
It’s still difficult to process how 139 comes form the same author who wrote peak chapters but then u got him commenting eren being punched and crying like an incel was the real him and he intended to make him kiss Mikasa back in s2, so maybe he wasn’t that good to begin with and had been lucky all this time.
All that nonsensical shit was definitely forced into the story by editors or higher ups.
Final fight has to be an epic spectacle so throw every titan shifter in there even if it makes the alliance's victory extremely unbelievable.
