I recently got a candle warmer at Walmart. It looks like a lamp where you turn it on, have a candle in the middle, and it burns the candle without needing to light a match. It’s bee wonderful to have as my candles are near a lot of technology and really need to be watched at all times if they are lit.
Today, I put a candle on there that I have had for a while. It’s a long blue candle that isn’t a glass container. With that, I had been watching it as I saw the wax melt inside, and noticed the outside was melting a bit too, but not as quickly as the inside (or so I thought)
I decided to turn my attention to Animal Crossing as I recently had a villager move out and was getting the next place ready for my next villager (I like to give my villagers flowers and fences that match the villager moving into the house).
I probably was paying attention to my game for probably about 15-20 minutes when I looked over where my candle warmer is and realized there’s some weird liquid on my desk. To my horror, I realized my candle was melting more and had spilled everywhere on my desk. I turned it off immediately and tried to stop the candle liquid from dripping off my desk. I was thankfully able to stop the majority of it from dripping on the ground.
So lesson learned: watch your candles no matter what, even if they’re not burning. Especially if the candle doesn’t have a container for the wax to melt inside
TL;DR: I wasn’t watching my candle while it was on a candle warmer to play Animal Crossing and it melted everywhere
You aren't meant to use candles that are not in jars!
Right? Where did they expect the wax to go?
*Candle liquid
Candle juice???
I opened this post because I just bought one of these lamps and was like “oh god, did it burn their house down or something?!” and was happy to find out they were just being dumb 😂
I am curious to see what this "lamp" looks like.
NVM. I think it is this.
Mines cuter and has gold accents, but same concept lol. Now imagine someone just letting a giant stack of wax melt under it with no container 😂
🤣 same!
Op needs to go back and read the directions! This is a stupid mistake.
Pillar candles aren’t usually scented… so what was the point??
You aren't?? I've always just put them on my "candle plate" (a little glass plate I've had for longer than I can remember) to collect the wax 😅
To burn? Or to melt?
Oh that's a good point. Just to burn. It didn't even cross my mind that the comment could be specific to melting them.
lol

Thanks, I'll be taking this now
Top tier response 😂
This isn’t TIFU by not watching my candle its TIFU by using a candle warmer for a candle that has no jar to contain itself
Exactly. That’s like putting soup on a burner without a pot and being shocked when it spills everywhere. The setup was doomed from the start.
Yes, cooking soup w/o a pot is definitely the same stupidity rating! I’m sorry, but what did he think was going to happen???
The soup was a perfect cylinder out of the freezer. I don't see the problem. It just had to stay that way.
The cylinder must remain intact!
Candle liquid. That would be wax.
Was all I could think as well! Ty for posting, driving me crazy lol
Only use candles in a glass container on wax warmers. What did you think was going to happen putting a candle of wax with no container onto a warmer? Where did you think the warmed and melted wax was going to go?
>tried to stop the candle liquid from dripping off my desk.
Did they stop making candles out of wax? You just wait ten seconds for it to harden, then pick it up?
This person used a wax candle without a container…on their candle warmer…that they have used in the past…fully aware that it would liquefy the candle…as it had done in the past. Thinking things through is not their strong suit in calm circumstances, throw a little panic in there and all bets are off
For real, the second panic hits all previous logic just evaporates. You can know exactly how something works and still watch yourself do the most chaotic option possible. It’s kinda funny how the brain just goes nope we’re improvising now.
Real talk, this is why shit like fire drills exist. If you practice doing a thing the right way, even in unexpected circumstances, you’re more likely to do the thing right.
-signed a navy vet who sat in too many general quarters drills during their enlistment.
Is this OP’s first time using a candle??!! 😭
If they have pilled carpet they might not want to have to pick at it forever to unstick it from the carpet fabric. If it's hardwood, they might not want to use a toothpick to get it out of the cracks
So just catch the wax dripping off the desk with your hand
YEEEEOOOOOUUUCHH
Is it true that people are getting dumber?
Yes.
Yeah OP is the reason we have disclaimers that you can't possibly believe need to actually be spelled out.
It’s so weird to me, making an assumption like that. There’s so many stories of people being dumb throughout history. There’s also plenty of evidence that people have been thinking younger generations are dumber/lazier/more entitled for forever.
It’s so illogical and apparently mankind will be doing this for as long as it’s around.
When the high school general science that was taught in grade 10 in 1970 is now a third year university subject, your citizens are stupider.
Counterpoint: when my mom was a kid she got all the way through a master's degree without ever having to take note than the most basic Algebra, it's now taught in eighth grade and pretty much every high school student is expected to pass Algebra 2, then more math in any college program.
Many things have gotten easier, but other expectations have gotten more challenging over time.
Can’t even imagine how you handle yourself around fire
Animal Crossing villagers: We heard you like home décor. Your candle: Cool, I redecorated your entire desk.
That's nothing. I once shared a college apartment with a guy who would fall asleep with his girlfriend and leaves candles burning...I guess they found it romantic.
They placed those candles beside the bed on piles of newspapers (like they were end tables).
The only reason we all survived was my policing the candle situation constantly.
Congrats you made Op’s moment all about you! Yay!! I guess
Well you realized you fucked up. Now you know not to use the warmer without a candle in glass.
To be fair, if Opie really wanted to use this candle, they could have put it in a bowl before they placed it under the heat source. Then the wax would have ended up in the bowl.
Ah. Darwin level award right there. 🕯️🏆
Exactly how did you think the candle would melt , but melt in a tidy way and it has no sort pf enclosing? Did you think that by watching the candle, it would burn the way you want it to, and not end up melting a ltogether?
I'm perplexed by the concept of candle warmer.
So it's for melting the sented candles so they release the sent without actually having to burn the candle?
For some reason that doesn't sit right with me.
Some of them you just use blocks of scented wax with no wick. Lasts longer than burning it.
I have no idea why this makes me irrationally upset..
Has the science gone too far?!
I'm 36 and my mom had these when I was a kid. They are nothing new.
Why? I use wax melts and candles. Sometimes I want just the scent (wax melts) and sometimes I want the candle light (candle). Best of both worlds.
Wax melts are smaller (scent upto 5 hours) so you can change up the scents. With scented candles you are stuck with the same scent for a long time. Or you need to drain cash (and closet space) for a huge collection of candles.
I do think we can agree that melting a candle on a warmer is plain stupid 😅
Wait until you hear about potpourri, man! There's no candle! Hell, there's not even any wax!
It's just the straight up smelly shit in a bowl! Like, always just sitting there smelling like pinecones and eucalyptus!
Like I approve potpourri.
The way I see it, candle is made to be burned. The candle burner is just potpourri that uses electricity.
Are you equally angry about the existence of Glade Plug-Ins?
No. Actually the thought that maybe feels off, is that we have those glade plug-ins, and other sent diffusers, so why use candles. Candles were made for burning. Not burning them is going against their core function.
Again, I'm not really questionin the existence of the candle burner, I'm introspecting why the thought of candle burner feels alien to me.
yes! They are wonderful!
It's using a scented candle without open flame. I have several and they all have a timer and different levels of heat.
And yes, you are suppose to use it with a candle in a container as they melt the wax. When you turn it off, the wax solidifies again.
They are great for households like mine with asthma and cats to consider. The less smoke inside, the better
Okay so I'm terrified of fire. It's an OCD thing and whilst I want to say it's irrational I struggle to class fear of fire as an irrational fear. I just fear it beyond what would be reasonable given a situation. I also love scented candles and for some time have collected them here and there because I love the fragrance but have never been able to bring myself to light them.
My candle lamp has a timer on it, so I can turn it on and it will turn off on it's own in 2 hours. I don't have to fear an open flame, forgetting to extinguish it or some other horrible accident. I'm really happy to be able to use scented candles without fearing the flame. Idk why other people use them, but that's why I like them.

The crime scene by the way 😅
Honestly... what did you expect 🙄
You made it so much worse than just letting the wax solidify and then removing.
Candle liquid* as they would say lmao
how dumb can someone be
Wait. Isn't this one of those aroma melt things? I don't think they are really meant to be used with candles. I think you are supposed to get those wax cubes and melt them one at a time. I imagine you can use candles, but I would try to safely cut some slices off so you can control the melt.
No, there are lamp style warmers specifically for jarred candles so you don't risk open flame. Wax melts are an entirely different product.

Whatever lead you to believe candles are unsafe? Darling. How sweet.
The open flame?

candles are scented, lamps aren't
Candles just spew nasty petro-chemical fumes all over the place. For fancy dinner or birthdays, yes, all day in your room - just no.

Wtf is this comment
Seems like a bot based on the comment history
It's definitely a bot, but I've seen a lot of bots, and this is by far the most ridiculous one lmao. Did you see the one that's like "deez nuts mix-ups happen, man"??
