It’s very much used as a pronoun though. Like, the full phrase, I suppose, would be “you guys,” where “you” is the actual pronoun there but the whole phrase is itself a pronoun in the context. It’s just been shortened in this case.
guys while not originally a neuter noun, pretty much became one in the 90s and became ubiquitous through the 2000s, something something, those damned millenials. atleast in the american venacular.
also not a pronoun, but a second person plural noun.
So glad I do not work in an environment where I might run into this ridiculousness. If any kind of bot corrected me in such a way my immediate rephrasing would be "Hey f***ers!"
Thankfully I work in a place where I walk into work my greeting to everyone all is "Hey fers!" and I am greeted back cheerfully by everyone with "S'up fer" and we get to work and all is right with the world.
We do a routine flipping off of whoever happens to be walking in the door at that moment in my office. The only HR person generally just keeps her door closed so as to not constantly be having a heart attack listening to us roast the hell out of each other.
It’s kind of a strange environment, most of us all went to high school together but didn’t keep in touch afterwards until we ended up in the same job a decade later.
i hope no one really thinks that people (particularly trans people) complain about this because we dont. most of us probably use guys and dude as neutral terms ourselves but the issue arrises when they are targeted kinda like a dogwhistle.
transphobes do this with 'guys' 'dude' 'man' and using 'they/them' constantly. usually being a trans person we can tell when its intentional and malicious. so no, those words arent just entirely gender neutral but if you arent intentionally bothering a trans person by targeting them with these words we dont give a fuck and anyone who says we do are transphobes trying to convince you that we are 'stereotypical whiny liberals' that they sell to ragebait you into bigotry. dont fall for their shit
99% of the world doesn't react like this. It's really just weird sections of the internet and stuck up old lady's at restaurants getting offended by guys. I imagine this whole post is completely fabricated.
'Guys' is not a pronoun. It is a noun.
Please see HR after wework this evening
Don’t take the lift tho
Just exit the building. Fired.
Can I go for a wee first?
Originally it was even a propper noun. Guys are called guys thanks to Guy Fawkes
This guy “fawkes”
Well acktually it becomes a pro-noun when used in a professional setting.
Just on my way to page 435 for another day at work in the dictionary

I almost exclusively call my girls “guys”. Still gendered i guess
We have a department at my work that is 100% female. Unless I actually am thinking about it, they become “guys” when addressed in bulk.
"Addressed in bulk" is the funniest thing I've read all day

Calling it a pronoun actually annoyed me like if you’re gonna be pedantic actually be correct

Language is a social construct, guys is only gendered if you want it to be.
Genuinely guys is gender neutral. Trying to fix shit that ain't broken.
Just start using humes, sup you multi gendered humes
"Guys" and "dude" are gender neutral. I use those words for literally anyone and everyone.

“Hey fuckers, I’m stuck in the lift” Truly gender neutral.

Stupid shit
Trans person here! WHO FUCKING CARES ABOUT GUYS VS FOLKS HE’S STUCK IN THE ELEVATOR
I just say "ladies and germs", kinda covers everyone.
Just throwing it out there, but calling your coworkers "Losers" is gender neutral too
As someone who is a straight white cisgender man, I use guys as gender neutral, and so far nobody has had an issue
So, eh
Gen x cis woman here who would walk in a room of my female friends and go "Hey, guys!"
Completely gender neutral.
Yeah me either . I seem to live in some part of the world all these types of things being problems doesn’t exist and I’m thankful for it

Excuuuuuse me! I’m an old lady and proudly answer to “guys”
Guy's what?
the only people I ever see giving a shit about 'guys' as a gendered term are cis people
The entire Irish nation would like you to know that you can fuck off with that lads.
Guys is no longer gendered and hasn't been for years now. Its just colloquial slang to address your peers of various genders and ages.
A perfect opportunity for this sketch;
Take a look at this video, 'limmy guys sketch' https://share.google/CtTMUnViRTfEiJOq0
It’s called Guys & Dolls for a reason Geoff.
