The Texas parents of an unvaccinated 6-year-old girl who died from measles Feb. 26 told the anti-vaccine organization Children’s Health Defense in a video released Monday that the experience did not convince them that vaccination against measles was necessary.
“She says they would still say ‘Don’t do the shots,’” an unidentified translator for the parents said. “They think it’s not as bad as the media is making it out to be.”
And before anyone who doesn't bother to read the article and lets the implication of a translator take to mean some Hispanic family...
"The couple, members of a Mennonite community in Gaines County with traditionally low vaccination rates, spoke on camera in both English and Low German to CHD Executive Director Polly Tommey and CHD Chief Scientific Officer Brian Hooker."
It's 1-3 per thousand, with just under two thousand reported cases to date. So, yes, around 5 is a good estimate for how many people will die from the reported cases this year.
The bigger issue that gets to the root of your question is the 14,000% increase in reported incidents. If this is the first data point on a chart that traces an exponential growth in infection rates, we'll see a lot more than 5 deaths per year in the following years. A linear line wouldn't be as bad, but since we've only got one data point to track the impacts of recent political stances on vaccines, we can only speculate.
Tying the infection rate to known vaccine rates would be a more informative way to look at the numbers, and would be more helpful with regards to promoting vaccines as well as estimating what the actual infection rate will be within the population, especially considering the 92-95% immunity threshhold within the population required to prevent outbreaks.
I am pregnant, and I will be furious if my child ever becomes immunocompromised because I live in the dumbest timeline where I can’t rely on others to create herd immunity. Absolutely INSANE this many morons endanger their kids in 2025.
My son had a NICU stay, and that further encouraged us to tell family that they would only be able to visit if they had all of their vaccines up to date, including the combo one that includes pertussis because it’s been making comebacks in my area every winter. We did see less family than normal that winter, but it gave us peace of mind as our son made it through those first months at home.
Everyone commenting on Billy and rightly so, but Melissa coming in hot with the no duh comment. I wonder who cut USAID and stopped our health department from helping other countries improve their vaccine programs?
Billy's the type that'll start blasting everyone's phones about how unfair it is and how somebody needs to do something about it right now when he's the one who comes down with measles.
People who catch measles don’t often die of that disease. Measles messes up their immune system so that they end up dying of another otherwise treatable disease.

Billy won’t care unless it’s someone he loves getting lowered into the ground. THEN he’ll start raging about how “nobody tried to warn me!”
I didn't vote for this
Leopards 2028
Asteroid 2025... we have 2.5 weeks.
You didnt vote for measles disease? Neither did anybody else😭
No, he’ll still blame Biden and “the libs”. Never any personal responsibility at all.
Or Billy’s kid is in the hospital for a week and he has a $88,000 hospital bill.
“Covid is no joke!”
Except as we saw just a few years ago, they won't even care then. They'll just say "Shit happens" and go on making stupid decisions.

Morons
That's putting shit on morons you know
morans*
I knew a Moran in high school, and he was a dick back then so I believe it was him.
If one of those 5 people is your kid, your world will end in meaningful ways.
I wish this was what happened. Sadly, when interviewed the parents sometimes say they would do the same thing again.

Just for context
There's a good chance their world ended when the had a kid, so they might welcome it (and start begging for money)
Conservatives lack empathy and tend to only care about things that impact them directly.
arent they the party of "vaccines cause autisim." "vaccines are govt control chips" , and "i dont need the jab, I have natural immunity. "
On one hand, vaccines are bad, on the other hand, unvaccinated immigrants are bad? Which side are they on?
The
whitegood side, obviously?? /sThey're on the "experts bad" side.
Billy is a piece of crap, who should never reproduce
You can GUARANTEE that exact same “oh no” person thinks every fetus deserves to be born.
Melissa blaming immigrants instead of her brain dead anti-vax maga buddies
People don't become conservative because of their overwhelming sense of empathy, that's for sure.
Or their intelligence.
How illiterate (and Immath*) ARE these people?
* - Yes. I made up that word
Innumerate?
1-3 out of 1000 die. 330 million Americans and he comes up with 5 deaths? His math isn’t mathing

Thanks for the explanation!

average trump voters.
we are so fucked.
Dang Billy out here with his Cro-Magnon brain thinking there's like 2,000 people in the states.

I wish measles upon Billy
I’m just surprised the screenshot is from Fox.
Does Billy think there’s only a few thousand people in the U.S.?
Melissa may have missed the point but I'll give her credit for at least somewhat acknowledging that the vaccines prevent this.

Billy can't do math
Have they considered that the low death rate might he due to vaccination helping prevent death?
Have they considered the consequences of long term damage and implications?
Also its america, they shouldn't have to worry about it but, their wallets
Hey Melissa, are you saying that since it started in Texas it's their fault?
I wholeheartedly agree 💯.

So much for the all lives matter crowd... They turned on that phrase pretty quick
Some he’s so chipper about the deaths, maybe he can tell those 5 families that their loved one doesn’t matter. That’ll cheer them up
does Billy think only 2000 people live in America
Let’s not talk about the horrific scarring on the kids face and body it can cause. Kids can live with that.
People who catch measles don’t often die of that disease. Measles messes up their immune system so that they end up dying of another otherwise treatable disease.
If you’re vaccinated what is there to worry about then?
Babies can't be vaccinated. Immunocompromised people can't be vaccinated. This is why herd immunity is so important.

Did you just AI'd the other comment?
Just a quick google search
And the babies between 0 and 6m? Are not vaccinated.
