20 years ago, I was reading a story online where pundits were bemoaning the fact that people no longer trust the news. The comments were quite robust, with people telling them exactly why they didn't trust news media, and it was all the same: reporters gloss over the obvious questions when politicians try to sell the public a bag of shit. The author tried to engage with those comments, trying to convince people that no, reporters are just trying to be fair and give all sides a fair shake. No one was having it.
Flash forward two decades and we see where all that cowardly complacency got us all.
Instead of being the ones on the front line to “ask the tough questions” that people want to hear, reporters are instead recorders. Just a bunch of passive receivers of the slop. They all want to be the one in the room to ask the softball question and get the content for their outlet. It’s painful and shameful.
Maybe that’s why we call them reporters now instead of “journalists”
I can't believe no one has yet. trump doesn't respect anybody or any company and is super flippant when it comes to personal loyalties. Reporters don't really have much reason to keep the status quo. Of course, trump has already gutted most media areas of any real journalists with integrity in the first place
White house Press access is a privilege, not a right. Act like a tool pushing an agenda and your less badge should go to someone on a waiting list that cares more about actually being a journalist and less of an activist.
Funny how people forget that OBAMA banned anyone from the Press from following him that didn't say glowing things when he was on the campaign trail.
