Those of you who dig adding patches to your bag…I have a few patches I want to add backing to. Do you have a preferred hook/velcro you like to toss on the back of your patches that need them?

Also favorite patch or company? I’m super into movies (Star Wars, Fifth Element, Iron Giant), and nostalgia 80s & 90s stuff.

  • Nope, sew that shit right on. Velcro collects assorted debris and dirt (in the woods a lot, might be why, but I don't like it), adhesive/iron on leaves residue upon removal.

I sew patches on, whipstitched with dental floss. Works great, comes off easy if I want to, and looks pretty good. If you want a more 'refined' look - eg not like a punk jacket - then running stitch or backstitch works well.

Noted. I get that when it comes to outdoors and will keep that in mind when thinking about what bag I’m using for what. Dental floss is a cool idea, nice to know it works well.

  • Very interesting post - I try to maintain the original condition so have been working on a system where I use an adhesive loop panel applied to a magnetic card (have a bunch before MagSafe became the standard) - I can then keep them on the bag with rare earth magnets... Pretty much a cheap DIY offering to Magnepatch (sold out of one maker in Thailand, super quality but expensive here)

Also been trying to find some 90s NBA patches - also hard to get here! But have been eyeing an old school Mortal Kombat one. Oh and the Winks for Days merit badge patches are hilarious!

Never thought about using magnets as an add on, makes sense! The 90’s NBA idea is awesome, I’d imagine if you could a hold of some old jerseys that aren’t wear able anymore you could take the embroidery off and use those? I like the mortal kombat idea.

Good idea on the hats. I’ll check out the website. Thanks!
