It quite literally was invented for that express purpose. It cuts the head off in one clean chop to avoid beheadings typically taking more than one chop and being painful gruesome processes.
The whole point is that the buildup to it is irrelevant. An executioner with a sword can fuck up and the person being executed ends up in agonizing pain for a few seconds until the executioner tries again.
The guillotine’s buildup is being walked through the crowd of people and laid flat through the machine. And it doesn’t make mistakes.
