Even better, when you do it, they berate you for doing it wrong, not listening and not asking, when you ask they say you‘re ridiculing them and berate you for not knowing it/taking them a fool, and when you complain they start with the „everyone else is capable of doing it“ „don‘t push it on your adhd“
I googled it to see the meaning behind the ad and found this explanation:
Nike’s first Super Bowl ad in 27 years, You Can’t Win. So Win., flips a familiar dismissal on its head. Backed by subversive messaging, striking black-and-white visuals, razor-sharp editing, and the electrifying energy of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” the ad challenges outdated narratives about women in sports.
The film spotlights WNBA star Caitlin Clark, gymnast Jordan Chiles, sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, and basketball players A’ja Wilson and Sabrina Ionescu. More than a celebration, it’s a call for athletes everywhere to block out the noise and let their game do the talking.
Basically, it’s an ad campaign about shutting up your naysayers. If someone tells you that you can’t win, shut them up by winning. It is a very specific campaign aimed at people who have the capability to accomplish these tasks, but just need the motivation/permission to believe in themselves.
The athletes in the ad are all women who’ve been told “you can’t. You can’t. You can’t. You can’t.” And yet, they did.
That's what I thought the ad was saying. Idk, it doesn't seem that difficult to understand to me, probably because I know that black people, but black women especially, can't seem to do anything right without someone having some shit to say.
That's entirely reasonable, except for the fact that it needs an entire paragraph to explain the advertising campaign. I get they're being clever about it, but the average person looks at it and thinks it's stupid, and the specific demographic it's aimed at probably isn't going to understand the meaning any more.
I looked up the meaning so I could share it here. I understood the gist of it without needing to look it up. I figured, since people thought it was some sort of "thanks I'm cured" message, that it would be best if I shared an actual paragraph of info, as well as the actual extended Niki ad for people to watch.
Yes. There is a saying, “If it don’t apply, let it fly.”
If an ad was not made for you or your circumstances, then ignore it. This is like looking at a size 10 men shoes and getting annoyed because you wear a size 7 women’s shoes. The shoes weren’t made for you. Go find shoes made to fit you.
Honestly, seeing it was a Nike ad, I didn't need to google to understand the meaning. I figured it was some sort of "You say I can't do it, so I'm gonna prove you wrong" messaging. The reason I googled it was twofold; (1) to confirm that I understood the meaning, and (2) so I could share the meaning here instead of just offering my own opinion on the ad meaning.
It doesn't. That's literally the entire sentence, there's nothing missing. Sometimes they add quotes to it but the slogan is literally just "You can't win. So win." Look it up
Ngl this kind of goes hard. Sort of like a - "you see all those obstacles preventing you from achieving what you want? Fuck em. Go take your success in spite of those things and win anyway through sheer determination and grit." - kind of vibe.
Their biggest slogan is “impossible is nothing” just as cryptic if not more than “just do it”. Other adidas billboards I’ve seen lately are “ I’m possible” “predator lethal zone” and “beyond the surface” . Buy shoes that work for your comfort and price point and not based on your hatred for slogans.
No, their biggest slogan is “just do it”. I have never once seen “impossible is nothing”. Anywhere. Ever. But I’ve seen “just do it” on fucking everything they manufacture.
Don’t make up corporate slogans to try to win Reddit arguments.
"Impossible is nothing" is the Adidas slogan, which is just as meaningless as Nike's, which is what slogans generally are, I'm surprised anyone actually decides what to buy by comparing slogans.
I think you might need to be American and on the younger side to get this one. "you can't win" has nothing to do with winning. It means no matter what you do, you can't please others or change their mind about you. So they're saying, you'll never get people's approval, so just go out there and continue to be great at what you do and win. All of the women depicted in the ad have received tons of backlash over the years for just existing and they continue to win in their field.
How it feels being told anything along the lines of "just do it" with audhd and executive dysfunction
yOu'Re JuSt BeInG lAzY!i!i!
iF yOu ReAlLy WaNtEd, YoU wOuLd JuSt Do ThE tHiNg!i!i
It also sucks when people constantly interrupt you while you are trying to do that thing, AND THEN ask why you haven’t done it yet

"Just do it"
Instructions unclear. Now I am addicted to speed.
i thought that said erectile dysfunction
That too

As someone who’s not black, I also thought the meaning was “They said you can’t win so prove them wrong.”
Yeah. Like, it's not rocket science lol.
Ye first thing I thought was .damned if you do damned if you don't. So you might as well try.
Genuinely a wholesome ad

Good idea, poor execution.
The fact that it takes a paragraph to explain it if you don’t get it doesn’t mean that most people don’t get it.
Wrong, I thought it was brilliant.
I looked up the meaning so I could share it here. I understood the gist of it without needing to look it up. I hope this billboard is playing Whole Lotta Love continuously
And they fucked up by including Sha’Carri Richardson as some kind of role model as she’s a terrible sore loser.
As someone who is incapable, am I supposed to ignore it?
Yes. There is a saying, “If it don’t apply, let it fly.”

I can't really tell if I am in the relevant demography or not, but I guess you're right.
If an advert needs so much context to be understood correctly, it is just a poor advert.

Assuming it cuts off the beginning of "They said you cant win." Or something like that

Why is that woman looking as if she's going to kill and eat anyone who comes too close?
It looks like the face is morphing like the Thing or she looks like a dark 90s comic book villain

Dunno if this fits the sub since it’s about sports
I have outright refused to buy anything Nike for years because of their stupid slogans.
I’m sure adidas has their problems, but they can at least manage to print a single fucking poster without being ableist.

Don't not do drugs while you're at it.

??? That's a good ad
Pissed-off sexists upvoting this post.
You gotta be bitter and grumpy beyond repair if you’re offended by an ad slogan.
ok
That face is so cringe
Here, in addition to all your other problems, feel guilty for not doing the impossible.
You cant win so win...by throwing you ball at theboppposition! Yeah that'll teach em!
Thats the dumbest fucking phrase i've seen put on an unironic billboard.
They should quotation marks to "you cant win."
how it feels being told "there is no 'try' there is only do or dont"
🤦
