• Bruh you have to try at least once to gauge the pyro's skill

Yup, if he claps my ass I pull the "noted" meme and use the shotgun next time

This is, indeed, what 1 of the 3 soldiers did in these clips. The other 2 continued dying the same way.

  • you have to try once to see if the pyro has talent, then if he does, you never try again (or by accident)

This is why I play Pyro without any cosmetics. They see a guy with stock weapons, think "he don't know about the M2 button"

    I proceed to press M2 🤭

i tasted degreaser for so long, there is now way i go back to stock when i often miss the first rocket (or they are too much shit to airblast).

Degreaser is the best Pyro primary by far, but if I want to have fun burning up enemies, the worse afterburn hurts a little too much :/

i do miss the afterburn that can kill a poor full health engi with one burst

Flare gun overrides the -1 afterburn and replaces it with its own default -4 afterburn, so it’s honestly not that noticeable in-game. All it does is punish you for not comboing it with a flare gun.

I should really buy an isotope degreaser soon… can’t find any with good looking war paints on the market though.

For me it was the opposite. When I was still new, people kept targeting me because of my Gibus. So I had to quickly get a hat so I won’t be focused and get to play the game more than 20s

Wait, that's not the opposite, that is what I want to happen, people target me with their projectiles thinking I can't reflect, then I do reflect.

Yes you want to look like a newbie, whereas for me I want to NOT look like one (hence I had to rush to get another hat) so people stop thinking I’m easy prey and keep targeting me.

Difference is you also have experience, whereas I’m still a newbie. If they come for me I lack the skills to beat them.

You keep trying anyways because there is no way a casual pyro will pull it off twice in a row

    or thrice

    or frice

    56th time’s the charm.

  • You gotta test if the pyro knows how to airblast first, and if the answer is yes I either swap off soldier or equip a shotgun depending on the pyro’s skill.

  • I love fighting pyros as soldier.

The trick to killing a skilled pyro with the rocket launcher is being unpredictable.

When I encounter a pyro that can effectively use his airblast. I like to move towards them without shooting, they’ll end up disoriented and I’ll jump in the air as if I was about to shoot them & they’ll use their air blast in anticipation of an upcoming shot. Right after they use the air blast, I blast them away with ease.

I do this shit, they fall for nothing, then instantly airblast if I ever do shoot.

A good tip is to let them airblast the first shot, then wait for them to airblast before shooting again. Alternatively, as a demo, hold down mouse1 as your fire rate is higher than the airblast rate of the pyro.

Nice strat, but I prefer running away and jumping back when they get distracted

  • Me when funni airblast

(I will have my entire bloodline scolded in voice chat)

  • Pyro players insulting anyone’s intelligence is hilarious.

  • "Lobotomized"
Big talk from a Pyro player.

In all seriousness, though, you gotta try once or twice to see if they're consistent. If they are, just use a shotgun. So many times I've had Pyros just completely lack any sort of plan when I pull out my shotgun and it ends up with me winning the fight

  • I wouldn't call them lobotomized, they are just not ready for pyro who is on crack.

The raw clips are less impressive, the music just makes the gameplay seem dramatic.

  • i mean what are they supposed to do, just stand there and die? most soldiers use backpacks instead of shotgun

buddy, i always aim at ppls feet. the reflect hitbox is too big for that to matter

when ppl do this they arent unaware of airblast, they just have no other option and are hoping u dont land it. just like any other gunfight

Shoot the floor at a point that makes the rocket travel a shorter distance. You force 3 scenarios:

Scenario 1: the pyro doesn’t react in time and receives ~50 damage in most cases.

Scenario 2: the pyro airblasts in time, however the pyro was not moving forwards which leads to the rocket to move at an awkward upward angle that makes any reciprocated damage unlikely.

Scenario 3: the pyro moves forward and airblasts, leading you to receive some damage, however the distance between you and the pyro is reduced which allows for a market garden or a better chance of killing the pyro with the RL due to the timing advantage from the delay between you firing the rocket and the airblast.

hence what i said about the soldiers hoping u wont land the airblast, yet u still think theyre “lobotomized” for not just standing around and dying

    [removed]

again, thats just helping my case. no idea why ur linking that

tbh based on this post and the way ur interacting here, u come across as a narcissist who thinks ur smarter and funnier than everyone else. nice airblasts, but ur really letting it get to ur head. have a good day

years of getting slandered have made some people forget that pyro players can be toxic as shit too lmao

I think they just blocked you gng

Deleting your whole Reddit account out of embarrassment? That’s new.

    Here's the problem:

while you, as the soldier, try to figure out the exact angle and distance to shoot at the floor, the Pyro is W-M1ing you.

Also if you're too close chances are the Pyro will just reflect it and run at you, and within a certain minimum distance there is literally nothing you can do because there's no angle to shoot at without the risk of getting a rocket flung back at you.

The Airblast/Reflect hitbox is *that* dumb.

Reflect hitbox is bigger than that. It's damn near a sphere around the Pyro; I've had rockets fired at the Pyro's back be reflected.

  • No offense, but you really need to get better fashion sense your loadouts are horrible

  • I have a friend tht always when he gets balanced to the other team (mains pyro) screams “shoot me f*ggot you don’t have balls” and when I don’t he gets killed by a f2p scout because he is focused so hard on reflecting. Pyros brain’s really stop working if you don’t shoot them lmao

or if you switch to shotgun

It hurts him more if I ignore him.

The stock shotgun (and panic attack) both have higher DPS’s than the flamethrower if you can hit your shots well.

  • No, they won't

  • Wow, another pyro that thinks he's good at the game breh

  • Most oyros in casual are fucking dumb as additional so for me personally a play by thr assumption that the pyro can't airblast.

  • no, I will NOT stop firing rockets at pyros

  • 80% of pyros in casual cant do that from that range so it makes sense

  • Where are these soldiers, firing on time every time. Every soldier I fight is running direct hit and literally never fire on time with the patients of a god to hold their shot even as I burn them or switch to shot gun at the sight of any pyro on the map. Brother do I need to sand bag my match making or something

  • Never. Screenshot the slurs in chat and RQ

  • What do you mean "directly"? Have you seen the bus sized reflect hitbox? I've seen projectiles be deflected from someone SHOOTING BEHIND THE PYRO

Hitbox size means nothing if the pyro doesn’t have instant reaction time.

There was another Redditor here that deleted its account over the same confusion, but i can’t find its comments though.

  • It is as Lazy Purple once said, “I don’t see a class that can reflect rockets. I see a class that can absorb rockets.”

  • You always have to test the skill, besides, knowing when not to shoot a rocket trips way more than shooting one.

I love jumping towards the pyro as soldier, flailing my mouse and not shooting, that usually gets them sweating!

  • Welcome to another episode of CAN YOU AIRBLAST?

  • I've killed enough unusual wearing pyros with rockets. The trick is to fire at nearby walls and hope for enough splash damage.

This, and off timings. That’s all it takes to shut a pyro down.

  • Errm.. to try and insult their intelligence, especially to this degree, would require you to show us how those sollies behaved after your first kill on them.

It's normal af to test a Pyro the first time you see them. Are you really expecting soldiers to just never shoot at you when you play Pyro?

And judging from how you're speaking to others, I can guess why you didn't show us their future fights with you.

  • No, and we love them for it.

  • "lobotomised soldiers"

    oh that nice

    a pleonasm in the wild

You see one or two soldiers with more than 2 functioning brain cells once in a while… not all of them are lobotomised.

  • I really dont understand.

Is there some kind of setting that changes the airblast speed? Because when i do it, there is a very palpable delay between when i press m2 and when the airblast actually happens.

I dont know if thats how its supposed to work, but i always have to press m2 preemptively before the projectile even gets close to reflect it.

Puff n sting scripts, switch speed exploit or autoreflect cheats.

Are the servers you play in in the same city as you? Try lowering your minimum matchmaking ping to 30.

    Ok, ill try that. Thanks

  • All three of these dudes have Gunboats on. Would you rather they walked away? When Pyro run speed is faster? Pull out their melee?

I want to know what you think they could have possibly done, especially the third guy who didn’t even have the hope of rocket jumping away lmao

They clearly should’ve switched to their melees, that totally would’ve won them these engagements /s

Shoot the floor with the goal of making splash damage hurt the pyro, as the rocket is either:

    1) too low for the pyro to airblast and damage reciprocally with floor splash

    2) collides with the floor too quickly for the pyro to react

this among other methods (off-timings, large angle flicks to trick the pyro into thinking you weren’t prepping a shot, etc)

New players struggle with this concept too, but my tip is to practice playing pyro so you understand what their POV is like.

In two of these clips the soldier fires while entire inside your air blast’s bounding box. There was quite literally no chance of the former happening because ANY airblast while the rocket was still in the air would do much more damage to the soldier.

The last two didn’t exactly have a lot of choice but to try it because any other play would have the exact same result. Especially when they’ve got to figure out what fucking team you’re on first.

The pyro cannot predict the first shot if off timings are used. Thus you are forcing them to use their ~200ms click reaction time to watch for a muzzle flash to airblast.

In that duration of time, a rocket can travel ~220 hammer units. The airblast detection box is 256 hammer units.

Again, my suggestion for new players is to try to play pyro to get a feel on how others counter pyro.

You absolutely can. Not with certain accuracy, but it’s pretty obvious that a soldier is going to shoot rockets at an enemy he sees. Especially at close range where the pyro has more options than to wait for something to airblast. Hell, you don’t even react to the muzzle flash in the second clip! Despite the soldier very clearly NOT shooting you the second they see you. Your own post proves this wrong.

Someone actively attempting to deceive new players with their cosmetics has no right to be trying to give them advice.

In the second clip, the soldier made no attempt to use off timings.

All I did internally was think “if I was this soldier and this pyro was visible for x amount of time, when would I shoot?” and airblasted when I thought they’d shoot.

You can’t react off of visual cues when you’re too close. It’s all prediction from there, in which off-timings will do most of the work. Them attempting to w+m1 only makes things worse for them, as they’d need to juggle multiple mental tasks in their head (tracking flames, and preaiming an airblast).

You have quite literally no idea when he spotted you because by the time he appears on your screen he is already looking at you. The soldier very clearly delayed his shot for this exact purpose, and it didn’t matter. Despite you not reacting to the muzzle flash either.

You airblasted when you thought they’d shoot. My exact point.

The video was cut. The soldier dropped down from the room above during the match.

    that’s my point

Are you illiterate, or do you just not understand how off timings work?

And you’re backpedaling towards him at 22 health while you know he’s there? Sure lmao

  • Idk, as a soldier main, it seems to work for me. Even against pyros with skill who know how to airblast. Sometimes they assume I'm smarter than to do it so it catches them off guard. Other times I just make it harder to anticipate, switch to shotgun, wait for backup, whatever I can to throw them off... but usually I monkeybrain it and it works ;)

    pyro needs a buff

Ah… shotgun equipping soldiers outside of flamethrower distance… my old nemesis…

  • Pyros are the reason I bought a strange shotgun lmao

  • Please don't, I love reflect jumping and reflect kills are so satisfying especially when it hits other people

  • I mean I use Direct Hit sooo...

  • Never. I am proud of my lobotomy

  • whats the name of the choir song?

Cantique de Jean Racine - Gabriel Fauré

  • And that's why I like the loose cannon

  • They dont see a class that can deflect rockets, they see a class that can absorb rockets

  • Like what Lazypurple said, I don't see a class that can reflect rockets, I see a class that can absorb rockets.

  • I've got a proudful trophy of being accused of an airblast script due to a soldier with the intelligence of a concussed brick.

  • I love how they almost always continue shooting. It's not like they have anything else to lose at this point, but why do soldiers with shotguns do this?

If you're playing as pocket (shotgun, no gunboats) instead of roamer, youre probably used to playing defensively and will thus have the habit of maintaining a distance from your opponents. This is a very bad strategy against pyros with enough ammo to airblast.

I personally play pyro just to see how pyro counters demo (and how to counter the counter).

  • It is technically impossible for lobotomites to learn anything post brain boop

    durr.. shoot floor, big scorr!!

  • I mean, most pyros in casual can't airblast well, so it's usually a fair risk to take. Once a pyro establishes that they can airblast, experienced soldiers can mix up their firing intervals to throw off experienced pyros. In either case, the solution is not necessarily to stop shooting rockets directly at pyros.

  • Dude, I guarantee that about 95% of the time it works flawlessly

  • I love whipping out my shotgun and causing pyro players' brains to short-circuit as I begin shooting them.

  • Switch to shotgun and shoot twice to bait pyros to switch to their secondary. Then switch back to rockets. Will fuck up any pyro that's not some degreaser sweat on crack.

  • Pyro players thinking they mastered TF2 just because they know how to airblast will never be not obnoxious

  • No, I will just walk to you and watch as you desperately try to airblast the air and shoot every time you miss. That's what you have for playing such a weak ass class

The class isn't weak, it's the player controlling them.

  • I think I played with you on the mercenary park match cause I think we had a soldier like that in our team

  • You could get away with using the Reserve Shooter with that consistency.

  • You don’t understand. I have the need. The need to gamble! Sure, that Pyro MAY be able to reflect that rocket. Orrrrrr maybe I could stuff their face full of crit rocket. The possibilities are infinite!

  • Why is everyone so angry? O yeah r/tf2

This guy has posted quite a few mocking edits making fun of pubbers for falling for the pyro cosmetic loadout with fucked up team recognition then keyboard warrioring his ass off in every single comment section

Really hard to find that golden window to post where all the Russians are asleep and the rest of the world is active and online… I keep finding my content being reposted to instagram and YouTube by Russian ChatGPT bots.

Block 1 bot and 2 more take its place…

??????????? The fuck are pyro mains smoking to make them this schizophrenic????????????

    i mean

    you could say it's character-accurate

Where does the Russia come from? What do you have against Russian players?

  • I'd just like to point out that also all 3 of these soldiers are using gunboats.

We got the next Sherlock over here…

  • fuck else are they supposed to do? look at you as you attack him?

Off timings and try to attack via splash damage… not feed the pyro with your own ammunition…

    smartest pyro main (retarded)

  • Lobotomized Corporation indeed

  • “Will lobotimised soldiers ever learn-“

Learn what? They’re lobotomized, they can’t learn anything.

  • cool clips, but fuck you for using that cosmetic set

  • Some will others know to wait and bait out early airblasts to punish you

Legend has it that such “soldiers” with “cognisance” lurk in the deepest pits of high glicko casual servers to this day…
