BYD's mean vehicle price was ~$16,000–$22,000 globally (heavily weighted toward low-cost models in China, with many under $20,000; higher abroad due to exports). Tesla's mean was ~$45,000–$55,000 (US transaction prices around $50,000+, impacted by mix and price cuts).
Tesla either isn't able to compete at the $15k-25k level, or wasn't prepared to do so. There should be a second factory in China pumping out TM2s, but the entire Gen3 program got canned, so Geely and BYD are drinking Tesla's milkshake up. Geely's Xingyuan was a best-seller in China this year.
Next up is Europe with the Renault 5 already out and the ID Polo coming in fast and hot. I don't know how long Tesla can wait, but it can't be forever.
BYDs cars are cheaper and comparable in quality and performance, Tesla dropped 16% of its output even with constant price cuts, their profit margins also aren’t as good since China has so heavily helped these companies vertically integrating almost every part of the chain
Tesla’s stock price is based on hype and potential services in the future, nothing to do with their current car output
BYD also competes across a lot of price brackets, through their various sub brands like Denza and Yangwang. Tesla competes in one bracket, and it is starting to become a heavily contested one
They reason they don’t compete at them price points is crystal clear. FSD, no way they can implement that tech at that price point. The whole ethos of Tesla is for every car they produce to be capable of full self driving.
And BYD has the 4th consecutive month of declining YoY.... It's also not doing well, and being aggressively taken market shares by other low end Chinese EV makers
A lot of people on Reddit cheering “China First!”. When they eventually drive GM and Ford out of business I’m sure they’ll hire Americans to work in their factories.
It’s half of the user base and the percentages are much higher in English speaking investing subs. One thing that Reddit is not full of is Chinese nationals.
Why do 400M Americans care about overpaying for inferior US products just to provide some profits to GM and Ford? Maybe they should try producing high quality EVs with leading technology...
From a business point of view, one way to survive in a hyper-competitive market is to find a way to step out of the competition entirely — and I think that’s exactly what Tesla is doing. Instead of racing with everyone else over who has the nicer seats, bigger screens, flashier design, quicker 0–100, or cheaper price, they’ve shifted their focus to AI and Full Self-Driving. That space has far fewer serious competitors and really plays to their strengths.
Competing on specs alone is endless anyway — there will always be someone who can undercut you, especially in countries with a massive EV ecosystem. I actually learned this from a very successful friend in the insanely competitive F&B industry. His strategy was to pivot his business toward tourists rather than fighting over the same pool of local customers. That shift opened up a whole new market and grew the business like crazy.
So to me, what Tesla is doing is basically the same thing: thinking differently instead of fighting in the same old sandbox.
Dude, Tesla basicaly sells 2 models, of course Tesla sales get concentrated. If they sold a C hatchbach it would steal sales from Model 3 and if they sold some C-SUV they would steal sales from Model Y as well.
The attacks by Democrats against Tesla in America where they used to sell half the vehicles should probably be the headline here. And we know why too. Oil

Interesting, take that information as you will.

Tesla doesnt want to compete 15-25k range sorry bud 🤣 they dont even need
I'd recommend glancing at the Q4 2025 figures.
Why? Do private cars actually matter?
…. Who else are going to buy the cars?

BYD about to have some problems cus Geely is coming for the cheap EV market.
But this doesn’t fit the narrative they have so stop showing real information!
Last I looked, BYD led on unit sales while Tesla led on dollar sales.

There's literally an Academy Award winning documentary about this. It's called American Factory. You should watch it, it's really good.
Was expecting a link to Gung Ho!
Tbh, I had considered it.
GM and Ford are doing that themselves they have 0 want to compete or even be in the electric car market. If they die so be it
This is the first time I've seen "China First"...
Wait a second - could this be -- no.. could this be - a straw - a strawman?
Classic redditor thinks reddit is only used by Americans
It’s half of the user base and the percentages are much higher in English speaking investing subs. One thing that Reddit is not full of is Chinese nationals.
But still has a bunch of Chinese troll farm employees.
Can't wait for the Chinese to destroy GM and Ford, that will teach that Elon bad man.
That's bad why?

Now show the margins 😂😂
Still the only one selling them with profit. Easier to sell products at a loss of course
This post means nothing for Tesla's future. It's just cherry picking numbers to spin a narrative.
The problem is that chinese companies are heavily invested in making better cars, and Tesla is invested in propping up robotaxi

But Elon bad so Reddit downvotes you
Tell me, who had the best selling electric car last year?
Im guessing BYD counted hybrids again as well?
Nope.
2.25M are BEV, up from 1.76M last year. If you include PHEV it jumps to 4.6M.

Yes of course it has nothing to do with the fascist ketamin abusive pos
so somehow this is bidens fault too?
