Also if they are asked to help an elementary school kid with their math these days it results in dozens of rants on Facebook because the methods are different and they don't understand them
Yaaaaaa, I work for a school district with around 100 facilities. If I see a digital clock its because a staff member bought it and brought it in, same goes for the schools my kids go to. All the clocks are analog, this is such a stupid none thing talking point. Also my kids are being taught cursive and long form math in school, so more nothing burger arguments from the olds.
As a soon to be 19 year old who uses TikTok and Snapchat regularly, I do math in my head much quicker than almost any of my older relatives, even moreso if you give me a piece of paper, including ones who work in math based fields. I don't get how they think we're dumb just for having more tools available.
Cursive has been obsolete since the ballpoint pen.
It was originally developed because when writing with a quill, you need to put it to the page carefully to avoid ink splotches. This slows down writing, so if you can limit how many times you lift it, you can write faster.
This isn't an issue with modern pens, and I feel like cursive slows me down because it makes the difference between letters smaller, so I need to be more careful to avoid letters looking like other letters.
My parents-in-law who are pushing 70 and 80 respectively both have Snapchat and use it just fine because they're not morons who refuse to get with the times.
Pretty much everyone born before 1980 can write in cursive. It’s not that special. I’m ok with it dying out because it can be a bitch to read if the writer has terrible penmanship.
Oh no, I’m cool because I can do things that are taught in school and use an archaic writing form that has no real benefits over regular handwriting. But I’m unwilling to learn new technology (at least that’s how this comes across. I personally don’t use TikTok or Snapchat or facebook, because I find them obnoxious.)
i saw a funny video about this just 2 or 3 days ago.
it was about a comedian saying something like "gen z does not know how to write in cursive, address a letter.." and so on. and someone stitched the video with them calling their mum and saying "if you wanted to change the backround on your phone right now, could you do it without my help?" and the mum goes "no".
the only real point of that video with the stitch was, people love to mock others for things they know they themselves can do but others can't. but realisticly, there's always something YOU can't do that others can do so much better.
granted cursive and analog clocks used to be a daily thing for people.
but so is operating a phone and social media now. so if you can't do that, that's actually bad on you for not learning. not bad on others for not picking up things that aren't really dated anymore.
side note however, i know many people who this post is supposed to be directed towards who CAN do both. i myself use analog clocks daily, and my friend has one of the best cursive writing I have ever seen and they are 3 years younger than me.
and I'm not even gonna talk about the calculator thing, that's just dumb.
BUT at the end of the day, old man yells at cloud lol. its just a scarecrow argument.
People 150 years ago knew how to ride and take care of a horse, how to make a fire, tailoring, navigate by looking at the stars, etc. what’s their point?
I cant take pictures or mindlessly scroll video feeds (like the creator if this meme definitely does Facebook feeds) but i can do cursive and reading clocks which makes me impressive because we refuse to teach the next generation these things (even though i think 90% of kids even can read a clocks its not hard and still relevant, cursive is exclusively due to the previous generation deciding it was unnecessary)
Do kids not know how to do those things? I mean, don't they teach cursive, basic math and how to tell the time in kindergarten and elementary school?
I always feel bad when I see posts like this, because I don't think the artist necessarily means anything malicious. It must be scary and demoralising to see the world change and to find that the most basic technologies that children operate are entirely alien and indecipherable to you. Maybe that's why they assume kids today can't do what they could. And whether or not they actually can, I imagine being content in knowing that they too have some sort of knowledge that we don't, is the only tiny victory they get to have
It varies on school. My kid didn't learn cursive but her school also had a full time music teacher, art teacher and technology teacher so she got a lot more teaching in those areas then I did. When I was in elementary school we had one music teacher for k-12, no art teacher until high school and technology was a typing class in 7th grade. Given there is only so much time to learn things I think my kid was better off not learning cursive to have more of those subjects.
As far as clocks go I don't recall her talking about learning how to read them or having homework.about clocks but she is familiar with analogue clocks. I can't recall her ever having to use one to tell time but assume she can.
As far as math goes her math at young ages was taught differently but seems more advanced then what I had at same grades. They were doing basic algebra on tests and there was focus on learning how to do things not memorizing times tables.
Why do these boomer esque “art” styles always look so terrible? It’s as if they got smashed before scribbling with a hand that never gripped a pencil before. What’s with all the garbled facial lines, the gross proportions, the squiggles in each facial feature? It’s horrific.
I technically can do cursive, but it turns out that people with adhd and autism have delayed handwriting development, so it still would be illegible, I can read cursive tho. I always try to do math by hand, and do it more than i use a calculator. And i cant properly tell the exact time on a clock, because i can't be the only person who gets mad when it's not accurate to the minute. Because why the fuck would those gaps be useful? How slaced out is it? Why dont they have smaller divisions like a ruler does for fractions?
Honestly I get the idea that they're just in denial about how useful cursive is. I can understand having to waste all that time learning cursive letters and how to join them and make them look legible, all just for it to become an uncommon form of penmanship.
Hell, Im early Gen Z and I learned cursive writing in elementary and middle school. I still use it for journals and signatures. Does that make me better than my late Gen Z brother who can't? No.
I was taught how to write in cursive before print, in public school I thought I should add, making my print look like dogshit, I was born in 2006, and I can do most math in me head, I swear to god boomers hang on to the stupidest shit.
I’m gen-z and I can do all of these things because anyone with an IQ above room temperature can teach themselves what their parents and teachers won’t.
When i see or hear that boomer talk, i think loudly, "That's nice... completely useless, but "nice." >.> I can program a VCR and i still have mix tapes floating around, but you don't see me bragging about it, and it certainly isn't going to get me a house or livable wage...
u/FashionLurkerGermany, your post is truly terrible!
The art is so ugly too
Three different styles.
Its like shitty clipart “photoshopped” together
It probably is
then they watermarked it lmao
At least it ain't AI I suppose.
Lmao that’s true
The bar is in hell. 🤣
Ok but he can he prove that lim(x->0) of sin(x)/x = 1 with pen and paper
He can read an analog clock, so he can do anything
he knows what a BOOK is so
It's times like these I bust out my TI-89 emulator.

Kid called Desmos:
The game engine can be used for math?
Gotta use that intercept function to get that reticle exact!
A boomer would use a slide ruler.
I’m an auto tech and I use graphing for electrical diag. Now I have to learn what those terms mean. I didn’t have a lot of plans for day anyway
Learning that really comes in handy when I’m asked to change the color of a button.
[deleted]
It can, through Limit theory
Never say those words to me again. I left that in college (and don't remember how to do it at all).
dude any highschool grad with proper math education SHOULD be able to do that with pen and paper
lim (x->0) of sin(x)/x = 1 x lim (x->0) of sin(x)/x = 1x lim (x->0) of x•sin(x)/x = x lim (x->0) of sin(x) = x sin(0) = 0
Always bet on hospital: lim g(x)/f(x) = lim g'(x)/f'(x) lim(x->0) cos(x)/1= cos(0)/1 = 1
Sinc(x) my beloved😍
everytime someone brags about not doing math with a calculator, i just assume theyve never done math higher than geometry 😭
Yeah, I was like “what about the quadratic formula???”
Usually their math skills peaked with the pre-algebra class that they needed "special help" to pass.
Also if they are asked to help an elementary school kid with their math these days it results in dozens of rants on Facebook because the methods are different and they don't understand them
'Clock with hands' u mean an analog clock? Clearly didn't learn enough.
Show me a digital clock with hands lol. Same thing
Google "hybrid smartwatch", there are many of them
Well exactly so digital vs. analog isn’t the real difference. It’s with vs without hands
but a hybrid does in fact have hands and shows a digital time regardless...
jokes aside, pretty sure the only point was "Don't try to mock people for something you don't fully understand" anyways
Could be dumbing it down to patronize them even further
Yaaaaaa, I work for a school district with around 100 facilities. If I see a digital clock its because a staff member bought it and brought it in, same goes for the schools my kids go to. All the clocks are analog, this is such a stupid none thing talking point. Also my kids are being taught cursive and long form math in school, so more nothing burger arguments from the olds.
its more concerning that they couldn't figure out how to operate snapchat and tiktok, they're pretty straightforward
Especially TikTok. If you can't figure out how to do an up down swiping motion with your thumb that's not a good thing.
But he can he operate a spinning Jenny, drive a horse and cart or forge an axe?
I dated Spinning Jenny in high school!
Hate to break it to you this way but...we all dated Spinning Jenny in high school.
smh stupid kids can’t read cuneiform anymore
Imagine bragging about stuff you learned in third grade thinking its a flex lol
Can the artist of this comic draw hands though?
I don't think there was an artist to this comic.
Or art, for that matter.
As a soon to be 19 year old who uses TikTok and Snapchat regularly, I do math in my head much quicker than almost any of my older relatives, even moreso if you give me a piece of paper, including ones who work in math based fields. I don't get how they think we're dumb just for having more tools available.
What is with their fuckin obsession with cursive? Ooh, wow, look, pretty handwriting. What an essential life skill.
Cursive has been obsolete since the ballpoint pen.
It was originally developed because when writing with a quill, you need to put it to the page carefully to avoid ink splotches. This slows down writing, so if you can limit how many times you lift it, you can write faster.

You clearly cant draw for shit either
It’s like someone slapped together three entirely different pieces of 90’s MS Word clip art.
Those people are really scarred by learning cursive
My parents-in-law who are pushing 70 and 80 respectively both have Snapchat and use it just fine because they're not morons who refuse to get with the times.

Don’t forget drive stick shift 👍
Im 29 and can do all of those things. Your exclusionary attitude to build yourself up by breaking others down is childish.
I viscerally hate this, great post
i saw a funny video about this just 2 or 3 days ago.

Woop-de-f*cking-do. So can those kids.
I can write cursive, do math without a calculator and read an analog clock plus I can use Snap and TikTok. I guess I’m invincible!
The poster’s last name is something like Fletcher or Hooper, but doesn’t have any of the skills of his namesake.
So which one of them is it?
Cool, so the boomer is acknowledging that they have no useful skills. It’s actually kind of funny when you think about it like that.
boomers are gonna lose their minds when they find out some of us can doall that AND social media 😂😂😂😂
People 150 years ago knew how to ride and take care of a horse, how to make a fire, tailoring, navigate by looking at the stars, etc. what’s their point?
This is the art equivalent of those ransom notes you'd see in cartoons where they're made up entirely of letters cut out from magazines.
what a dumbass, I can tell time on a clock with my eyes
Ya know what…most people can’t shoe a horse either. Who gives a shit?
I do all of those too. And im 17. Old people aren't special because of this
Three very important skills that are completely obsolete by now. Let me guess he also knows ho to burn CD images
Haha, that's the kind of genius I aspire to—zero effort, max results!
Haha, this subreddit's got the best terrible vibes ever!
Congrats on passing middle school?
I cant take pictures or mindlessly scroll video feeds (like the creator if this meme definitely does Facebook feeds) but i can do cursive and reading clocks which makes me impressive because we refuse to teach the next generation these things (even though i think 90% of kids even can read a clocks its not hard and still relevant, cursive is exclusively due to the previous generation deciding it was unnecessary)
Well, then I shouldn't need to tell you it's past your bedtime, grandpa...
I’m eighteen and was taught to read analog clocks in the third grade. The majority of people can read them?
I can do that too, but I also like tik tok
Edit- a letter
So basically they can't function in a technological world?
I can do all of those things.
Bet they can’t do algebra without paper and pin those low skill nothings
Dude.... my eight-year-old can do all those things, as well -- yes, school still teaches each of these to children these days.... js yo
Genuinely what is their obsession with cursive
Asked them to set the clock on the VCR player 🤯 than asked to program it to record your show
Can he drive a stick shift???
Does he drink hose?
I can do all of tbe above, plus read an entire novel in a few hpurs. I don't necessarily need or want to, but I can certainly manage the basics.
Congratulations on your third grade-level skill set, I guess?
I can Snapchat and TikTok and do math without a calculator and tell time on a clock with hands
So you can do a bunch of out dated things? Neat.
I can do both? Man, this is a low bar for intelligence/taught knowledge.
So....his big brag is the grade 3 curriculum.
“I also know what clip art is”
Do kids not know how to do those things? I mean, don't they teach cursive, basic math and how to tell the time in kindergarten and elementary school? But why? Problems accessing the internet, poor soul?
/S
I bet they can't draw a clock though.
But can he see why kids love the taste of Cinnamon Toast Crunch?
The “art” so bad I can’t even tell who’s speaking
Jokes on you, I can do Snapchat, TikTok, cursive and tell analog time.
Just please, for the love of god, keep math far, far away from me
When is writing in cursive ever useful though?
Dennis the menace on the right
Jesse eisenburg in the middle
Can't work out the dude on the left...
Truly terrible. Bravo!
And all my friends are clipart from the 90s
I can do all of those tho
They’ll put themselves on a pedestal for knowing how to operate obsolete tech but can’t make or send an email even with guidance.
“Wow! What other useless skills do you have old man?”
Shit I can do all of those things. Guess that makes me normal.
Cursive its art
they can do all that except art
Why do these boomer esque “art” styles always look so terrible? It’s as if they got smashed before scribbling with a hand that never gripped a pencil before. What’s with all the garbled facial lines, the gross proportions, the squiggles in each facial feature? It’s horrific.
I can do all those things. Does that make me smarter? 🙄
Shit looks like art they used in my math study books
It's not that hard to learn any of these lol
Cursive is fucking dumb as shit
''and where has that gotten you?''
Boomers love belittling their kids
I can do all of that sooo…
Either that’s a tiny old man or some GIANT kids
Acting like all of that is like some kind of gold standard.
"i can do maths without a calculator" MF's when I ask them to find the hypotenuse of a right angled triangle
Can’t do TikTok? What the fuck does that even mean?
“Hey quick question, do you know what a JPEG is?”
I technically can do cursive, but it turns out that people with adhd and autism have delayed handwriting development, so it still would be illegible, I can read cursive tho. I always try to do math by hand, and do it more than i use a calculator. What is this atrocious animation style?
Can he turn a word doc into a pdf
I literally also can do this
I’m gen-z and I can do all of these things because anyone with an IQ above room temperature can teach themselves what their parents and teachers won’t.
Go and ask your Boomer to do some long division. See if they remember how to do it from 70 years ago.
Boomers out here flexing on us with that analog math game. Respect.
When i see or hear that boomer talk, i think loudly, "That's nice... completely useless, but "nice." >.> I can program a VCR and i still have mix tapes floating around, but you don't see me bragging about it, and it certainly isn't going to get me a house or livable wage...
When did writing in cursive become such a flex for boomers?
So can everyone grandpa. Time for bed.
Haha, my grandma's still rocking WordArt from the dialaup days.
