Boomers think that just because alcohol-induced abuse due to lack of therapy was acceptable in their time, it should be accepptable still. It's almost comical.
There’s definitely that vibe sometimes like it was normal back then so it should still be fine now.”
But honestly, most people didn’t have the language or resources to even label what they were going through, so it just ended up getting passed down as the way things are.
It’s wild seeing how much attitudes shift once people actually start talking about mental health in a real way. Some folks adapt, some double down. Reddit just brings all of that into the same room.
Are you ok bud? Because none of that is in the meme... he's talking about going out and drinking with the boys... and our generation could definitely benefit from more socializing
I work in auto insurance claims and see way too many people think that their "one martini" or "one and a half beers" doesn't do anything when they get behind the wheel of a car. That's risking people's lives, at bare minimum.
People (especially men) have a tendency to do very stupid things when intoxicated. And if the people around them are also intoxicated, the people who could stop them from doing stupid things have reaction times and judgment impaired. I personally think of the multiple men who have blown up their hands or heads with rockets.
Your American is showing, drinking and socialising is great. It's not a replacement for therapy at all, but everyone should have drunken nights with their closest friends.
None of us needed to drive home either because we don't live 18 miles from eachother or the nearest place to drink.
Drinking does not automatically lead to drink driving
I'm 21 and was raised by a family of alcoholics, you ALWAYS have a designated driver who holds onto the keys... or have the bartender hold onto them... the idea is to not be stupid BEFORE drinking
The trick is to hold no value in updoots, downvotes only bother me when I'm downvoted for something that is objectively true... however this is something subjective so I couldn't care less
I am really curious about alcohol as an ex-muslim but shockingly, I hear NOTHING good about it anywhere. It really is the drug of the medieval england, I guess xd
May I ask how is drinking good for young people? you talk about it like it is a career decision instead of an escape route :d. I also would like to hear why am I getting downvoted. Maybe the word "muslim" irritated them? xd
Because alcohol is one of, if not the most common and effective, things to do as a friend group, it brings people together and gets people to have fun, the alcohol isn't the point, it's only part of it, but it's a key part in countless cultures across the planet. Also idk why people are downvoting someone for asking questions.
A branch of islam forbids music, because if there is music there will be drinking and women as well lmao. You are definitely right, it must be a lot of fun but it can hurt a lot as well. I am also scared of it because I am damn sure I will be a big time drunkard lol.
seriously, fuck these asshurt redditors brother. I would like to see them face to face and to try to downvote me there lol. At the end of the day no speech is completely free lmao.
I wouldn't be too worried about trying alcohol, it's a fun experience, and it's not that easy to actually become alcohol dependent, and it's practically impossible as long as you're surrounded by close friends, it only really occurs if you chase the alcohol part itself, with the intent of intoxication for the purpose of escaping reality, which is why it should be treated with control and knowing your limits, that way you aren't consumed by it, the same goes for anything else, food, weed, cigarettes, even caffeine.
But have a wonderful day, I hope you can enjoy the freedoms you now have outside of strict religion, try new things, meet new people, exploration is how to let yourself live, I learned that as well, I used to live in a very strict Christian community, leaving was the best decision I ever made.
thanks lad! I watched "Another Round" few years ago and it was really scary, I recommend watching it. Then you will see why I am getting scared of it, much clearly :d.
I love almost all aspects of islam, it is just that I cant convince myself to believe anymore. I dont think there is a day in the past 10 years that went without me doubting my religion. I am just thankful of getting rid of these dreaded thoughts.
I can see how happy you are to see someone leaving their religion, you must have been through lots of stress as well?
I understand not liking alcohol but this is an ignorant take. The diversity of flavor encompassing beers is HUGE. Go try a fruity lambic beer, a smores flavored dark beer, go try a candy flavored sour ale. I personally enjoy a classic beer flavored beer, but even if that’s not your thing there’s a lot out there to try. Your take is coming off as overly dismissive.
There’s a reason even sober folks like NA beer. For many people a good beer tastes fuckin fire.
i tried it for two years and it didnt do anything for me. Its pretty expensive, gives you hangovers and makes you wobbly. Some people swear it gives you courage to talk to a cute person... but that never worked for me. A lot of people treat "having a beer" like having a coffee... idk, try it, maybe you like it, but I dont recommend it.
This is such a boomer meme that oddly enough perfectly encapsulates their lack of self awareness while displaying it perfectly.
"Why are these younger men trying to better themselves and self reflect when they could just be a raging alcoholic and blame everyone else for their problems?"
You can go for a beer and a chat with your mates without society collapsing.
I really see little difference between generations in people's desire to blame everyone else for their problems. Online gender discourse amongst younger people would be a prime example of that I'd imagine. Or indeed the need to hate on other generations.
I didn't know until recently, but I'm more of a cider guy. Found this brand called Black Widow, it's a NY company that uses blackberry in the mash.
Stuff is fucking delicious, but not all "apple soda with rubbing alcohol in it" like a lot of the ones I've tried before.
Just never been a fan of "traditional" alcohols. Wife really enjoys this IPA that's made with blood oranges.
All our lives we thought beer and liquor was just something you had to get used to in order to enjoy it. Turns out it was all a lie.
Same thing with men and therapy. Turns out you can actually enjoy life more when you trust someone to help you through the rough spots instead of just bottling it up and poisoning your heart.
u/HamsterSlapping, your post is truly terrible!
Ah yes nothing like drinking away those demons
The real problem is they seem to be saying modern beers are worse than the mass produced, watered down swill they drank when they were young.
It's not like that causes cirrhosis or any other liver diseases!
/s
Haha IPA yucky. Haha repress feeling with drinky drink.
Up next: wife bad
What’s hilarious is IPAs are way higher in alcohol content than the light beers they love
Sounds like fake news. *Link to AI generated video of minions being racist
They hate IPAs because they’re modern. I hate IPAs because they taste like shoving a raw hop in my mouth. We are not the same.
Followed by: phones terrible
Then tune in for: baggy pants is dumb
Tv channel exclusively available to people above the age of 70
Avocado toast
Sir, jinkos
Here, have a light beer that tastes like water that was in the same trailer as a case of beer.
If ya got a bingo card break out the red pen cuz here I come!
“That IPA shit you drink is terrible! Come here and have a real beer like this Coors Light with your boomer dad”
I mean the saying goes "the best beer is a free beer" and I'm a beer snob lol
I'm in my mid 40s and I've got my gut and my BP to mind. If I'm gonna have a beer it's gonna have to count, free or not.

Socializing? Yes.
Drinking and socializing? No.
I work in auto insurance claims and see way too many people think that their "one martini" or "one and a half beers" doesn't do anything when they get behind the wheel of a car. That's risking people's lives, at bare minimum.

Hey man you should get some kind of award for conflation
Your American is showing, drinking and socialising is great. It's not a replacement for therapy at all, but everyone should have drunken nights with their closest friends.
None of us needed to drive home either because we don't live 18 miles from eachother or the nearest place to drink.
Drinking does not automatically lead to drink driving
It's not the alcohol's fault if people are stupid
It quite literally causes impairment? Are you stupid? Or are you like 50 and still think drinking and driving laws are against your freedoms?
Wait is your point really that people aren't to blame for the mistakes they make when drunk?
the point flew over your head
no, ppl are still to blame, but alcohol leaves you in an altered state, it's a fact
So nobody should drink ever?
This thread must be nothing but shut-ins and teenagers honestly.
It's drink responsibly not don't drink at all.
I'm 21 and was raised by a family of alcoholics, you ALWAYS have a designated driver who holds onto the keys... or have the bartender hold onto them... the idea is to not be stupid BEFORE drinking
I tried to make the same point and got downvoted. There is no room for nuance on reddit
The trick is to hold no value in updoots, downvotes only bother me when I'm downvoted for something that is objectively true... however this is something subjective so I couldn't care less
As a German I must say that thus meme is stupid. The beer these old farts drank was already shit and indicative of a wide scale cultural collapse.
I am really curious about alcohol as an ex-muslim but shockingly, I hear NOTHING good about it anywhere. It really is the drug of the medieval england, I guess xd
I mean, if you're getting your takes from uptight redditors...
Even a broken clock is right twice a day. And in this case these "uptight" reddit are right. It is a good thing that alcohol consumption is down.
not only from them, but why should redditors be against drinking anyways ? I am sure most of them consistently drink.
It seems like young people are more prudish and risk averse than ever before, and in many cases it's not doing them too many favors.
May I ask how is drinking good for young people? you talk about it like it is a career decision instead of an escape route :d. I also would like to hear why am I getting downvoted. Maybe the word "muslim" irritated them? xd

I didn't know that. I heard it lots of times that beer tastes like garbage and people drink it just for the alcohol. Thanks

We still have a beer with our friends lol. Who do they think we are, antisocial freaks?
-yes!
Those movies pokes fun at old guys like that...
Actually a huge pet peeve of mine. Analysis is about understanding and resolving trauma. It's not just doing a thing that makes you feel better.

Perhaps better therapists are needed.
And in the US, we can do so with better beer than our dads drank.
In the UK Stella Artois transcends generations.
Are they implying people don't need therapy or wouldn't benefit from it?
Beer is 30 dollars for a 24 pack. That just seems like I'd be more depressed
In Australia it's around $100 for a 24 pack
Fun fact: Jack Lemmon and Walter Mathau were 43 and 39 respectively when filming Grumpy Old Men
I think this is more of your typical "young people's beer bad" post then generic beer worship.
Lemmon and Matthau deserve better than this
The shitty text placement is just the icing on the cake
We seriously need to investigate the extent of lead poisoning or prions or amoebas or whatever the fuck it is eating these people’s brains
Beer is the answer to the question, "What goes great with a relaxing drive through downtown?"
Maybe they live in Australia where beer is outrageously expensive
Honestly this made me chuckle, and I’m a huge craft beer nerd
I prefer that GenZ tend to go to the gym now rather than pubs or Bars.
So the boomer doomer schooner is this way...?
I didn't know until recently, but I'm more of a cider guy. Found this brand called Black Widow, it's a NY company that uses blackberry in the mash.

Beer is the answer, but snowflakes? That's the real plot twist.
I mean the first guy does kind of have a point. We're the loneliest generation
Socialization is good. Drinking to cope with things therapy exists to help with is not.
The meme is saying "You think you need therapy? No, just drink instead."
Well I said kinda
