Fringe (2008) hasn't been available for streaming in the US for quite a while now since it was dropped from Max. Since then, I have often seen Fringe mentioned on this subreddit followed by people asking where to stream it (so now you can). It's one of my favorite shows so I figured why not make this post. It gets significantly better after season 1 but I still loved the first season.

  • Obligatory "it's a travesty that John Noble was never even nominated for an Emmy" comment. He was amazing as Walter Bishop.

He was nominated and won, but only in Universe B, the best universe.

Walter Bishop is one of the greatest "mad scientist" characters of all time, right up there with Victor Frankenstein, Doc Emmett Brown, Doctor Octopus, Lex Luthor, and Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

He was incredible! The roll called for RANGE.

STRAWBERRY FLAVORED DEATH! I second that Walter Bishop is my favorite mad scientist

  • Just throwing this out there, but White Tulip is still one of the greatest hours of television in history.

    ''Peter'' is also phenomenal.

I don't often rewatch episodes but this is one I have rewatched a few times.

The special effects were also pretty sick.

This one has stuck with me all these years as well.

  • Funny.  A week or so ago I was looking to see if fringe was on any of the services that I have because I wanted to rewatch it.

I did this last year. Was surprised it wasn’t on any service. Looked on Vudu and it was only like 20 bucks for the series so “bought” it on there. The re-watch was very enjoyable. It was like a new show because it had been so long since I watched it originally.

I bought the Blu-ray set 6 months or so ago because I missed it so much. I'm still glad that I picked it up.

i found all mine in a box in the garage... i'm missing season 5. and i guess 4, the one i have is on DVD

It’s so stupid how many things just vanish off streaming for years at a time. I’ve been wanting to watch the Austin Powers movies for a long while.

Interesting. I think I watched it again on HBO a year ago. It tends to jump around.

It's on prime video isn't it?

    Only for purchase or rent

  • Definitely a fun show. Season 1 has a way different feel than the rest, but I think it really fleshes out the world building.

S1 was definitely trying to be more a new X-Files whereas from S2 on they found their own standing. There were still some similarities but it‘s definitely its own thing.

They also dropped a lot of plots they set up during S1. Olivia‘s father being still alive and potentially being a threat. Peter being a well known criminal around the world, Charlie‘s wife was never mentioned again. It‘s not like those were lingering threads, but I do wonder what Charlie‘s wife would’ve acted like during the first few episodes of S2.

Nina Sharp also never made any sense in that first season. She was mysterious and they almost made it seem like she was maybe an antagonist but they just didn't know what they wanted to do with the show yet so it doesn't make sense how cagey she is at the start of the show.

I always felt like they never really knew what to do with Nina Sharp as a character.

Yeah at first it seems like her and Bell might be evil and then as it goes on they seem to have decided they are good guys but that makes their reluctance to share info early on weird. Then she's kind of like a mother figure, then she's just kind of there.

  • John Noble/ Walter Bishop is wonderful in this series.

    Great Sci-fi show.

  • Man I need to rewatch this and Eureka

Eureka was so good especially in the early seasons. It stayed good but I just liked the early stuff better.

Is Eureka available for streaming anywhere? Haven’t watched that show in years.

    Its on Prime.

Along with Warehouse 13 which is almost a companion series.

Not that I've found. Tempted to get the box set at this point.

  • One of my favorites. It is a crime Noble never got an Emmy.

  • Anna Torv is so good in this show. She doesn't get enough credit.

  • It’s so good!!!

  • Thanks for reminding me of this series.  I'll start watching it tonight.

  • I might have to watch it. I actually own the DVDs but never watched lol 😄 I don't know why! That first episode gave my x files vibes and I wasn't in the right place for that at the time.

  • Are any of the sites still online to point out where the men are or the Easter eggs or to decode the glyphs?

    Nice, thanks.

Np. Fringe connections is what came up first but the Fringe wiki is what I was thinking of.

I can’t remember the site I used to go to, but I remember after each episode we used to look for Easter eggs or connections to previous episodes. There was a lot of screenshotting as well. I also remember that the campaigns to get Fringe trending on twitter. I used to have to pirate the show here in Australia, cos none of the networks here showed any interest in it.i did buy the blu rays when they came out.

  • Fuck yes, I need to watch it again!

  • Thanks! I need rewatch this. I don’t remeber why but I stopped watching fairly late and didn’t see the last season I think.

  • I have it on dvd but it’s a lot easier to watch it streaming so this makes me happy. 😃

  • Nice. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen it

  • I’m watching xfiles now so I can watch fringe right after

  • Bought the DVDs earlier this year and am in season 4 now, so good!

  • Same as 12 monkeys if you want even more scifi.

  • one of my favorites, im in the minority but i put this a biy higher than xfiles

  • To quote walter

    Excellent let's make some LSD

  • I’m sooo glad. Both me and my wife loved this show and wants to do a rewatch but we didn’t want to pay the absurd prices to rent on other platforms. Also RIP Lance Reddick

  • Huh, funnily enough, I started watching the show on Hulu back in the day. Would watch it at work during the slow weekend shift.

  • Thanks for the heads up! Was halfway through it on Max when they took it off.

  • Every December I do a rewatch.

  • Finally found a home. It was so annoying trying to figure out where to watch this after Max dropped it. Time for a rewatch.

  • I have been wanting to rewatch for years but it hasn't been streaming anywhere for a long time....so I bought the whole series last week haha

  • The theme music lives rent free in my head to this day

  • fuck yeah

  • That was a fun show.

  • So the shift from Max to nowhere always felt weird for a show that’s had such a long afterlife in fan discussions. Fringe really I guess hits its stride once they lean harder into the alternate-universe arc, so having it easily streamable again is going to pull a lot of new people in. Perfect timing for a rewatch.

Not that weird. They dropped it so they didn’t have to pay any royalties since the show was likely not viewed by many people and it popped up elsewhere when the original deal ended. Happens all the time - even in traditional TV syndication.

  • It just came on Prime here in Canada and I've started watching from the beginning. I know I watched a few seasons when it was actually airing, but fell off for whatever reason and didn't finish it, so it'll be good to finally see the whole thing at my own pace.

  • Fringe is fucking A. Absolutely love that show. May have to watch it again for the third time. :)

  • For anyone that was a fan of Fringe and John Noble, you should watch the DC Animated movie "Superman Unbound". He voices the villain Brainiac and his deep voice is so good for that role.

  • Great show. That makes my head hurt understanding it even though i've watched multiple times

  • I dont remember much about this show other than it being sort of similar to X Files and I liked it.

  • I just saw it this morning and started rewatching!! It’s been a tough holiday season for me and this made me feel so much better lol

  • I started watching and was interested but got tired/bored very quickly of the formula of 'something crazy happens' and then cut to Walter 'this reminds of the research I did in the 80s'.

I get it that it all ties back to him ( I suppose, I didn't finish the series), but damn so predictable. Even his son with a 190 IQ is just there to be his mouthpiece.

I get it. It's a formulaic "Monster of the Week" type show for the first season or so. It gets more serialized not long after that and is just such a great story IMHO

I'd say it's worth continuing too. Season 2 in particular pulls off a groundbreaking, iconic take on the idea of parallel universes (big spoiler but a common concept in science fiction these days) that's a delight to behold. If you liked the show Counterpart (which I haven't seen much of but know the concept), this is for you.

Not downvoting but I'm pretty sure Fringe left freevee before it left max and that it hasn't been free on any service (in the US) since it left max.

    [deleted]

I'm sorry but you're not correct (if we're talking US). People in the Fringe subreddit have been complaining for a while about it not streaming for free anywhere. I bought the Blu-ray set because it wasn't streaming for free. And yes, I have Prime/freevee.

    Edit: lol

They could just buy the whole series digitally if it bothered them that much. It’s been $40 Off and on for the complete series for years.

Yeah, I believe it was on HBO Max last year.

  • I don’t want to watch the show again but I do want to know what those 2 dudes in suits role is and where they come from etc.

  • Drinking game time. Drink on every “you okay?”

  • Let me tell you where Fringe was always streaming - from my NAS

Don’t let these companies dictate what you can and can’t watch guys
