  • I'm watching Newhart from the 80's.

  • I liked the It: Welcome to Derry season finale very much

Fallout S2 had a good start and is pretty much, my most hyped for the year

Mayor of Eastown goes pretty rough towards the end, which I like

Landman circles a bit. There´s more potential

    have to catch up with

Pluribus and Nobody wants this after that I can gjve my review

  • gave silo a drop after episode 3, is it any good or improves ? i felt it was a worse version of the vault subplot in fallout

I didn't find season 1 as good as others have said but I enjoyed season 2 much more than season 1.

I gave up in S2, it's just not a very interesting story. Nothing ever actually happens.

i knew it, thanks for saving me time.

  • I'm yielding a double Goggins being Fallout and Justified s5. Both top tier stuff , the new/first episode of Fallout s2 is a banger.

I really liked him in White Lotus too, but I wasn't a fan of how the season wrapped up.

  • Do any of you use a similar thread for pc games?

Sorry for being OT, hope this is ok

r/gaming used to have a thread every wednesday, but they stopped it. Sadly this subreddit is the only one that has mods nice enough to actually make and pin a weekly thread.

Not to hop on your comment but does anyone know if there is one for films as well?

Ive been looking myself without luck. I found out that r/MovieSuggestions is full of good threads tho

The pcgaming subreddit has a similar pinned thread each week to discuss games you're playing.

  • Making my way through the latest Stranger things and finding it really cringey - the dialogue and a lot of the acting is taking me right out of it. Forced badass moments and weird tonal shifts too.

Every adult seems to be written to be a moron/refuses to listen, so that the 'kids' can prove themselves and save the day.

I really don't want to be in on any hate circlejerk, but god, what happened to this show?

The kids have always been dweebs and the parents useless and dysfunctional. It's a love letter to 80s movies.

I think that's how the show had always been. I don't remember any adults doing anything to help except Hopper and Joyce. So the kids and the teens need to do things like invade a Russian base or fight a giant monster with fireworks at the mall. Rather than the military doing it

  • Finished Death by Lightning. This is a much better TV series about the assassination of a US president than Manhunt last year. Everything is solid and even though I know the story, I am completely absorbed by this telling of it.

Besides that I'm watching Pluribus weekly. Am thinking about Silo season 1, which a lot of people called "slow", but which I had zero problem with because I was completely in love with the characters and felt it moved at exactly the pace for unfolding of the mystery it was telling. For me that was a perfect season of TV. With Pluribus, I feel like it's a slog, but maybe it's because I don't care for Carol and I'm more caught up in the mystery.

  • Past week of shows, links are to themoviedb.org for streaming info in your region

  • Finished The Night Of. Finale had my heart beating like I was watching my favorite sports team/player.

I've been meaning to re-watch it because it's been long enough for me to have forgotten most of the story detail. But I never do, because I remember how I felt by the end - like I'd been through the wringer.

  • Hijack - Had nothing to watch and decided to give this a go. Overall, so far so good, just finished 2 episodes and it's got me hooked. Has a lot of that 80/90s action thriller Die Hard DNA that I grew up watching but stretched out to a TV format.

Edit: And yes, it's good timing with Hijack S2 right around the corner in January. How does the same shit happen to the same guy, twice?

Man Vs Baby - Wife and I enjoyed this. Just check your brain at the door and not expect too much from this. It got us in a festive mood.

Based on the trailer, the second time (Hijack) is on purpose.

I'd like to know how an accidental hijacking could happen.

I mean he's a passenger on a hijacked vehicle on purpose, LOL

  • Man vs Baby: I was surprised how much I enjoyed this one. Rowan Atkinson somehow perfected the blend of anxious comedy. Just the perfect amount of panic and excitement to get you invested in the next scene. It's also has this great charismas spirit.

Fiona and Cake season 2: I'm loving this series, I highly recommend it to any fan of the original adventure time. They made such a fascinating universe and somehow they keep adding such creative and interesting narratives.

  • Got Apple TV Plus with the Black Friday deal and so far loving Murderbot. So far have seen 3 episodes and it's entertaining so far.

Bad Sisters S2 Personally I really loved the 1st season and was a top 15 series when it came out that year but without the husband....the show really tanked and I stopped watching.

Any good Apple TV recommendations ? What’s Murderbot about?

Pachinko and Drops of God are very good

Your Friends and Neighbors is fun and lighthearted.

Silo and Severence are some of the best series.

    Murderbot about?

Uh, basically about a bot that interacts with humans in certain ways. Hard to say much without giving away the plot.

    -Pluribus

    -Slow Horses

    -Silo

    -Foundation

    -Severance

    -Chief of War

    -Ted Lasso

    -Servant

    -Dark Matter

  • I finally got around to watching Celebrity Traitors UK and really loved the season. It's like a mix of Traitors and British Bake Off because pretty much everyone is wholesome and friendly but there's still competition. It's nice when you don't hate watch rooting for people to go home.

We noticed that as well when watching. Everyone was just so pleasant towards one another compared to the normal traitors

  • Started John Wayne Gacy and got me wondering if there’s any other series out there that are based on true events.

Narcos is my all time favourite. Is there anything else from the Gacy, Escobar timeline? Or just anything in general that’s based on true events

I can't recommend Chernobyl enough, if you haven't seen it.

    band of brothers, chernobyl

Some that I really enjoyed are... The Salisbury Poisonings, two of the American Crime Story seasons, Litvinenko, Super Pumped the Battle for Uber, The Comey Rule, The Dropout, The Gold, The Offer, Unbelievable, We Crashed and White House Plumbers.

That's kind of a complicated question. Lots of TV shows that are based on--or, key phrase--"inspired by" true events. They all have a fairly complicated relationship to actual historical events, as tempting as it is to feel like you "know the story" after you've seen them. Fictional or composite characters, compressed timelines, etc.

Devil in Disguise does this too, although it's gotten credit for being less sensationalized than other true crime TV shows. My understanding is that Narcos is on the more heavily fictionalized end of the spectrum.

Anway, you might like Mindhunter or American Crime Story since they cover similar time periods, but if your main interest is crime stories based on historical events--congrats! You've got a huge cross section of recent TV shows to choose from.

  • I have been watching Robin Hood on MGM+, which I am enjoying. Anything else worth watching while I have MGM+ this month?

    Pennyworth was fun.

Billy the Kid is dramatized enough to keep things moving but it's a pretty decent grounded tone and enough historical beats to be mostly legit.

It's not all action but the shootouts are great and are story and character driven instead of being a side step from everything.

From if you haven't seen it already. Chapelwaite is pretty good. A Spy Among Friends.

I just started From and its amazing so far. Thanks for the recommends.

  • Got Apple TV for 30 days to binge some shows. First up was Murderbot and I loved it. I’ve read the books but the show conveys humor because parts of it cracked me up. And there’s 7 books so hopefully we get 7 seasons!

Up next, the latest season of slow horses

Try Sugar, Criminal Record, Smoke, The crowded Room

and if you decide to continue your Apple Abo

Severance, Slow Horses, The morning Show

    Presumed Innocent.

    What’s Murderbot about?

    A neurotic cyborg lol

    This is the perfect description.

  • Watched S1 of Wayward Pines, a recommendation I see around Twin Peaks quite often. It was OK, I feel like the story was actually interesting and some of the mood/setting (maybe I should try the book?), but to me, the acting kind of killed it. I had trouble taking anyone seriously and so many of the "bad guys" are overacting like hell. Some shows can get away with iffy acting but I feel like all the social stuff in this one called for more hard hitting performances. Especially Pilcher, he didn't work for me at all.

Loved the ending, though, cursed endings are too few and far between.

  • Completed Mad Men (1st watch). I realized that I have lost the patience for slow burn shows as I was losing interest in some episodes especially after S4. Overall, the show is really good with a nice wrap up. Personally, I'd put it in the same tier as Halt and catch fire and below Breaking Bad ,The Wire and The Americans.

I was also in the same boat, until i watched it again. I think you might rate it more highly with a 2nd watch. I don't think you realise how good the writing and character development are until you watch it a 2nd or 3rd time. There's about 1000 moments where something is mentioned and you think "oh, that's why so-and-so does this-and-that 2 seasons time from now". I watched it as it aired and I think I've watched in 7 times since. Each time I find something new and each time I'm more and more amazed by the excellent writing. Id argue that it is the best written show of all time.

I wouldn't say "best written show of all time." (Not by a long stretch, and Mad Men was my gateway drug to TV in general). But I definitely agree you get way more out of it on a rewatch.

Name a better one. There's shows which write tension better, or plot arcs better. But there is no show that writes dialogue or character development better.

Wow, here I am agreeing with you that it's a great show that is better on rewatch, and your response is to downvote me because I don't personally consider it to be the GOAT. I'm not a huge fan of ranking TV shows, personally, which is the main reason I made my own comment instead of just upvoting yours. But since you're putting me on the spot, I guess I agree with kamikaze chaser that The Americans and The Wire were better overall.

there is no show that writes dialogue or character development better.

I disagree. Mad Men has some great dialogue, but it's also a bit too on the nose sometimes. It's great for hammering home themes, but the overall effect can be stagey. Some of those monologues monologue hard, and it doesn't work for every character.

There's shows which write tension better, or plot arcs better.

That's definitely part of the problem. Ultimately, I think it's mostly an issue of consistent quality across episodes/seasons. There are always transcendent moments, but it's more of a slog to get to them in some seasons than others. And there are shows that are both meticulously plotted and have great dialogue/character development.

In the end, all shows face different constraints (budget, politcal envrionment, studio head expectations, etc.), so I try to appreciate them on their own terms. Mad Men was really the key to AMC's prestige ambitions, and they wanted it to last as long as possible. (Breaking Bad didn't get the same level of promotion and attention until closer to the end of its run, even though it's better known now.) I suspect Mad Men would have been even better if it had been planned as a tight five seasons.

LOL I ain't reading that. I didn't downvote you, and I wasn't having a go at you either. The defensiveness is crazy.

You challenged me to explain my position and I did so. Sorry I used too many words for you. I just assumed anyone with time to rewatch a 92-episode show seven times must be retired!!!

u/marcusintatrex you made sure to delete the comment where you called me a wanker 13 minutes ago so no one else could see it, but my original response was a legit attempt to respond to your question in good faith.

TLDR; there are plenty of reasons to doubt that Mad Men is the single greatest show of all time, even if it's a show you like and respect a lot.

  • My wife and I started re-watching Ted Lasso for possibly the sixth time. We just finished Season 1 last night.

Never gonna give never gonna give...

    [deleted]

Agreed. Last season felt rushed and halfhearted so that they can negotiate a new contract for more seasons.

  • Watching The Boys S4.

When S1 was released, it felt very different to everything available at the time. It was 3 months after Endgame for reference.

But now, it feels like they're being edgy for the sake of it, not for the story. That was probably always the case, maybe I was just at an "edgier" stage of my life so I was more receptive to that shit. 6 years later, it feels empty. The "edginess" is actively making the series worse in my opinion. It's too over the top.

This got me thinking about Invincible. It also relies a lot on shock factor, but it feels like the story and the stakes do warrant that amount of violence, and it's a better written show.

Still really enjoying Homelander though, the only great thing about the first 4 episodes of S4.

Season 4 really nosedive for the edginess as well. The various stories aren't that compelling. This was thr first season for me that ended out of the top e best seasons for TV series each year.

Yeah, I’ve always said this show was going to age remarkably poorly. And I say that as a fan.

And I agree with you regarding Invincible. It’s also worth mentioning that being animated seems to give it a lot more leeway. Not sure exactly why that is, but I definitely think it’s true. Maybe because animation still carries a bit of the sense that it’s not as mature, or “not for adults”, so we’re a bit more willing to overlook some shock factor or “edgy for edginess’s sake”

I felt the same. Unsurprising as the comics aged really poorly as well if I am being real

I think with Invincible, the writing makes a big difference. But yeah, the fact that it's animated makes the gore seem less extreme.

my main problem with S4 was that it lost every bit of subtlety. It felt like they weren't telling me the message of the show about authoritarianism, but screamed it into my ear with a megaphone.

It's been a while since I watched the first 3 seasons but I don't think they were ever subtle with their storytelling, but I do get what you mean, they've become even less subtle, and contrasting this with Andor where you can see the rise of fascism with subtlety and nuance, S4 really stands out in a bad way.

  • Fallout

Interesting start to season 2. The trailer at the end makes me very optimistic this will be a great season.

I felt that trailer at the end gave too much away! But good start to the season.

Yeah they always do so I avoid them

Thx for the heads up. Will avoid.

  • kind of mad i watched the beast in me. not much really happens, characters act weird, acting is weird, and everything feels so algorithmic. feel like so many shows with the same structure lately.. 6 episodes of nothing, 7th episode is the flashback episode which spells out everything in excruciating detail, 8th episode finally conclusion, including more flashbacks to recontextualize what you saw in the first 6 eps.

also the second netflix series after wednesday with so many facial close ups it made me uncomfortable. no idea if it's part of netflix "second screen policy" or a stylistic choice, but it's starting to really piss me off.

I liked The Beast in Me. It's definitely not a masterpiece and has a lot of cliches, but I found it to be a pretty entertaining ride.

  • Does last man on earth get better?

I'm just over half way through s1, and I'm about ready to drop it. The only reason I'm still going is because I keep thinking it's going to get good, and then it doesn't.

The main cast (4 so far) are so unlikable. Does it get better in s2 or 3?

Seconding, it will not get better. The very first episode is literally the best episode by magnitudes. It's basically a mini movie and I love it, but after that the story majorly stalls and meanders, and it does so with a protagonist who is annoying in the wrong way--he annoys me as a viewer as much as he annoys the other characters.

Pluribus is weirdly similar to LMoE, though the jury is still out on that one for me.

nope. s1 was ok but it gets more senseless with time.

Damn! It's a shame, I really like the idea of the show, but I don't understand why the writers seemingly want us to hate all of the characters.

  • I binged all of S1 of Fallout and watched the S2 premiere through the day, it was all very much worth it!

Season 1 was really good, thought it ended strongly, and I’m excited to follow S2 weekly. More Walton Goggins and Ella Purnell in my life, the better

Waiting to watch season 2 with rest of family

  • currently watching s4 of prison break, debating what I should watch next because I keep dropping other shows

    How’s s2-s4?

S2 was fire, s3 was a bit of a drag but I still really enjoyed it. I’m a bit confused on what the angle with s4 is, it’s not as good as the other two

  • Just watched Weapons (the movie) and i LOVED it, and it reminded me how much i love mystery thrillers with some horror flavour.

Anyone has any recommendations for TV shows of this kind?

Like Stephen King-type grounded supernatural thrillers.

I second the Mr. Mercedes recommendation. A low-key murder mystery thriller with excellent acting, based on Stephen King novels.

    dark, haunting of hillhouse

Midnight Mass while you are at it
Welcome to Derry IS Stephen King

Recently saw Playing Gracie Darling on Netflix, and that fits the bill. Most of the others seem like things more people have seen: The X-Files, The Outsider, Hannibal, The Alienist, Mr. Mercedes (Peacock--I guess not as many people have seen that one)

Harper's Island is a personal favorite (such a delicate tonal balance), but I don't think it's streaming anywhere right now. Evil is in a similar category: it's more horror comedy than horror, but there are some genuinely creepy episodes.

YMMV on some of these but:

    The Leftovers

    From

    Dead Boy Detectives

Seen From and of course Leftovers, just saw t he trailer for Dead Boy Detectives and it looks like a Disney Channel show

    Definitely recommed The Outsider.

    That was a good one!

It's not that similar, but I had a great time watching the From series.

  • Anyone feel like we get less good documentaries now a days? Felt like a few years ago Netflix was putting out some interesting documentary all the time and now it's few and far between.

I watched 2000 meters to Adrivka recently and that was good. It's from the same film maker as 20 days in Mariupol

Watch anything by Adam Curtis. Shifty came out this year and I think is also available on YouTube

I've seen all the Adam Curtis stuff. Great recommendation tho.

Enjoyed The Revolutionary War on PBS that came out around Thanksgiving.

    Thanks for the reminder!

True Crime was a huge streaming staple for about a decade, but it's dried up because they've made one or more documentaries of just about every half interesting crime in modern history.

I imagine it's similar for other subjects too. A whole lot of slam dunk topics have been scouted and covered already and it's harder every year to find new ones.

  • The revenge club on Paramount - only 6 eps and a great binge watch!

This show makes no sense to me - why does she run from him at the end if she knows he’s not the killer?

I agree the ending was dumb. very lazy mystery. Would have been better if they just focused on each others lives and small acts of petty revenge and forgot about the murder plotline.

    • Diary of a Ditched Girl: One always needs a 30 minute series
    • Asura: Only one episode in.
    • Plur1bus: Slowing getting glad with the fact that I haven't given up on this yet.
  • Landman s2 - feels like a soap opera

Sexist and mysogynist. I couldn't watch more than 2 episodes.

clearly you are on your period! /s

Normally I would shake my head at this kind of comment.... but Landman truly has the most absurdly sexist portrayals of women I have even seen. It is just ridiculous.

the daughters outfits are becoming borderline ridiculous

  • Are these worth watching?

    • Witcher Season 4
    • Task
    • Mobland
    • Last Samurai standing

Mobland is a good ride. It's not prestige TV, but it's engaging and exciting enough if you enjoy Guy Ritchie films.

Haven't watched TASK yet but Last Samurai standing was really entertaining.

    Task, Last Samurai standing

Mobland is quite good and entertaining for it's genre. I wasn't bored at all.

The Witcher S4 is simply the best season of Witcher after S1 and Hemsworth is actually the better Witcher than Henry who was very good as he is. Wish Hemsworth played the role from the beginning.

Agree with the other reply on Task. It's definitely not bad, but it's not amazing either, and yeah Mare of Eastown is much better. I do wonder if watching it at your own pace now it's all released would help - waiting a week between episodes unfortunately didn't do it any favours for me. It's got a great atmosphere at times though, and some good performances.

The Witcher S4 shouldn't exist IMO. It's not even that Hemsworth is outright bad (although he's not great...) but it's just quite jarring, and he's quite a bit worse than Cavil for the role IMO. I also think the show was going pretty sharply downhill anyway. I thought 3 was a snooze fest, and with the lead actor literally leaving they should have just pulled the plug tbh. I haven't finished the season and I doubt I will.

    Mobland never slowed down ..

Task was a solid cop thriller, not really breaking new ground though. Impressive performance from the main criminal dude, but Ruffalo rarely does better than "good enough I guess". Mare of Eastown (same team) is much better.

Last Samurai Standing initially feels very derivative (very much looks like it's going to be "Squid Games in Japan with samurai") but it sort of branches out of that formula as it goes on. The choreography is good, if you just want to see some fun action scenes you'll be happy enough.

They're both about 7/10. Haven't seen the other two shows.

Ruffalo was incredible in Task and is usually great. I don't get this opinion at all. Task was great too.

  • Whiskey on the Rocks is funny.

  • Still on my first watch of the original run of The X-Files.

Also watching Pluribus and digging it; going to finish Task and start Slow Horses and Severance. Thank goodness I’ve got a long train ride on Sunday.

  • Between Game of Thrones, Fargo, Band of Brothers and True Detective what should I watch next?

I'm a big fan of all these shows, but BoB is the most solid. All the others have bad seasons, bad episodes, or at least things you could fairly criticize them for. The only real reason not to like BoB is if you're just not into what it offers, a realistic look at a group of airborne infantry in late WW2.

Thrones is the best show there.

Band Of Brothers last just In case you get (and you will) be disappointed by the others

True Detective is worth one season (the first one) so start with this one and then tackle the others. After watching the first season you won't believe how this can get THAT much worse because of the excellence of it, but it does, it fucking leaps into hell after it, it's remarkable.

Band of Brothers first. Ive never seen true detective, but that would be next on my personal list. Fargo third, and then GoT last if you can get through it all.

I dont think ive ever binged Band of Brothers but I have seen it all 3 -5 times. Perhaps alternate a Band of Brothers episode and a few episodes of True Detective, unless youre just a 1 show at a time kinda person.

Ive seen the first five seasons of game of thrones probably five times each but anything after that only once, so maybe game of thrones for a bit and then Fargo once you get bored. Then finish game of thrones when you have nothing left to watch and want to know how it ends.

Thanks and I started Band of Brothers just got threw the 2nd episode

    1. Band of brothers
    2. True Detective s01
    3. Fargo
    4. Game of thrones

Love the Fargo series, Jon Hamm in the latest one played a creepy guy!

    Game of Thrones

I know people are jaded by the later seasons but I only watched it fairly recently (Last year) and it is incredible TV. I think people take it for granted a bit or maybe they've forgotten.

    The later seasons are great.

  • Is it worth it to start Invasion on Apple TV? I’ve heard lots of negative reviews about the show, and it has like 6.5 stars on IMDb. I’ll be off for like a week so really need something to watch! I’m also taking any other recommendations on Netflix and Apple TV.

Have you seen For All Man Kind? And did you think all the boring rocket stuff got in the way of the interpersonal drama?

If yes than Invasion might be for you.

Yes, I have seen some of for all mankind, and that was the reason I dropped it lol. Note taken

The first season of Invasion is pretty entertaining the first episode I thought was very good. Perhaps give it a go? It's not like there's much to watch atm.

I think I will, thank you. Seriously, it seems so dry for tv shows for some reason. It’s fun watching Pluribus weekly but that’s about to end. An Alien show just sounds good right now.

I enjoyed it a lot. It's not the best SF show out there, but it was fun

  • had some time off to finally binge latest season of slow horses and like always, what a fantastic show. when you binge it, some of the cracks start to show, there's always a lot of coincidences, lamb is nearly being a psychic with the way he can predict others behaviour and often the villains plan hinge on someone following some convoluted steps to a t (think last season river had to figure out where this girl was heading, so he could arrive just in time to see her take off with her plane, so he could warn the people in london, so the timing would be exactly right for the villains to infiltrate the tower or some shit like that)

but it doesn't matter one bit, because the show is firing on all cylinders and the characters are just so much fun. shirley and coe absolute MVP, and each episode just got better and better until an absolute killer finale.

I binged seasons 3-5 in the past week and I totally agree the main complaint i have is the bad guys overly complicated plans that rival Lamb's psychic abilities. Especially season 5.

That and the parts where a certain group of characters basically kill an entire mercenary team thats working for the same agency as them, with no consequences, or when they assault other agency members with deadly force and then get away with a "sorry lol they weren't listening to me try to talk my way out of this" while they were all literally just doing the jobs they are paid and contractually obligated to do. Like all without any fallout or acknowledgement whatsoever.

i think season 3 starts off with the killing of some mob family, and then river follows some lead and ends up in the countryside and befriends some girl, who turns out is part of the whole operation, who then gets brainwashed into boarding a plane and flying into london, which river sees just in time so he can call MI5 and have them evacuate the area, which was the villains plan all along so they could access some office in one of the buildings or something.

and i just kept thinking.. why didn't they just phone in a bomb threat while hiding out in that same office building instead of this weird weekly long plan. just bizarre.

  • Finished off BLUE LIGHTS SEASON 3. Helluva final episode heading into season 4. That one scene.

  • Romantics Anonymous on Netflix. Beautiful little Romcom Limited Series. Perfectly cast. Han Hyo-Joo is such a versatile actress. She was exceptional in both Moving (Watch it if you like grounded superhero shows) and Happiness (Watch it if you like Zombie based media) and she is great here acting in a language which is not her primary language. Shun Ogori is great as well as are the other secondary leads. A beautiful and quirky feel good romcom show.

  • Watching All Her Fault, on episode 5, it's fine, not great, not terrible, they are forcing inexplicable atrocities towards the husband character (i barely remember their names) which borderlines unrealistic things, while revealing little to no clues about the case.

It was advertised to me as a "Kidnapping mystery that at the same time creates drama in the family" and surprisingly the premise i was told sounded better than the actual product thus far.

Maybe the last episodes pick it up a little but for now, they're just throwing some villian shit towards the husband, they're painting him as the ultimate terrible 'male character' with no ambiguity, i've seen too much of this the last years.

It also doesn't help that the only one who's an actually quality performer is Sarah Snook, to noone's surprise for those who have seen Succession.

Give "little disasters " a shot on paramount. I liked it soo much more!

Watched the trailer, seems interesting, will do

  • Really enjoyed Welcome to Derry and thought it got much better as the season went on and ended really well. Definitely watching S2.

They were late showing the clown and getting to the point, which is fine by general standards but it's not a mystery in general, we know the shtick, he has 2 movies out, i get the building up but they still took time getting to the point.

As a general experience, yes, once it picked up it was much more enjoyable.

  • I gave up on Pluribus which means I only have Heated Rivalry in rotation rn. I guess time to catch up on movies? (Heated Rivalry is fantastic overall but in particular watching Connor Storrie act is like watching a start being born)

He is absolutely amazing. I can't wait for his big moment in episode 5.

Dropping Plur1bus, but touting Heated Rivalry as “fantastic overall” is certainly a choice lol

They aren't even close to the same genre. Oh no, the person enjoying the sports romance show didn't enjoy whatever Pluribus is?

Oh no, they have to be the same exact genre to compare quality!

What did they say that was even comparing quality? They only said they dropped it.

I watch a lot of shit shows and drop/avoid a lot of "good" shows as well. That doesnt mean I'm comparing quality.

This weekly thread is not about what show you think is the best show, its literally just what have you been watching.

Yeah imagine having a discussion on reddit, amirite /s

You can't judge a fish on it's ability to fly. Heated Rivalry is a great romance show, you can tell it's intended audience loves it. It is well written, shot and edited. The music is great, songs featured in it are even charting. Absolutely great acting from the main leads. And all that for a small canadian production that didn't even have an international release planned until a few weeks ago, now people are begging for it to be released in their country.

To each their own, but you couldn’t pay me to watch that garbage soft core porn

It less explicit than GoT and you are just admitting you are complaining about something you didnt even watch

Comparing GOT is certainly a choice

You talk like a smarmy jerk, and that matters more than all these TV opinions.

Thanks for letting me know. I truly value your opinion

Ah now you have a problem with making comparisons between things of different genres.

You can't call one show soft core porn while the other has actually has full frontal nudity, rape scenes, incest etc.

God forbid a romance show has some sex scenes though!

What is with people who like Pluribus being butt hurt over people not being into it? I don't get it.

There was someone in that sub who posted about how they didn't think the plot was well developed and seriously there were so many posts about how the poster was a barbarian subhuman incapable of appreciating artistic expression (paraphrasing but only slightly). It was bizarre. Do you think bullying someone will make them like the thing you like? Are you that threatened by people noping? (collective "you")

Similarly, it's your loss if Heated Rivalry isn't for you-- no skin off my nose-- but the acting is really impressive, and I'm enjoying the narrative choices the showrunner is making. The way he's structured his 6 episodes (at least the 4 I've seen so far) is novel and fresh. I'm enjoying it-- and that is before I get to the naked tushies and everything else.. which I am also enjoying, along with the excellent soundtracking.

Yes, these are choices I am enjoying.

Yeah, I sometimes sort by controversial to get past the saccharine stuff, but doing that in a Pluribus thread was a BAD idea. Literally a hundred comments filled with people lecturing each other about critical thinking and media literacy. Ugh.

do you think bullying someone will make them like the thing you like?

These types don't want to convert people, then they wouldn't have anyone to look down on.

It has a really insufferable fan base that think they're smarter than they are. I think it's an ok show but it is not that great. It's mostly Vince fan boys sucking his dick tbh. The circle jerking for this show is so bad.

    heated rivalry is just slop.

  • It: Welcome to Derry - 9/10 Landman - 8.5/10 Mayor of Kingstown 8.8/10 Pluribus - 5/10

Watching people grade Pluribus so low, here, reminds me of the early days of BCS, when the first season was S-L-O-W as fuck, and people started calling BB "lighning in a bottle"

I thing Gilligan has earned the right for the audience who choses to watch, to have a little patience.

OTOH, there's a lot of Noah Hawley fanatics who can't quite figure out why they didn't enjoy Alien as much as they thought they would. It was Noah Hawley after all!

I'm not saying you're right or wrong, VG certainly has a good track record and that means something. But anyone can get excited by an idea, only to find it doesn't work as well in practice, especially with novel concepts.

Maybe there will be some great future seasons that make this a new favorite, maybe there won't. All I can say now is that I'm kinda desperate for this protagonist to have a wider cast to bounce off of. I quit before the latest episode because I'm honestly kind of sick of her as a character, and I don't care how well she is acted anymore, I need something else.

I think there's a fair contingency of people who are bored but are still watching because of that earned patience.

Them rating freaking Mayor Kingstown 8.8/10 should’ve told you everything you need to know lmao

I think this new season of Mayor of Kingstown is like 7.8. It's actually one of the better seasons so far.

The OPs Landman and Pluribus ratings tell me we have quite different tastes.

Hey man it's okay if people enjoy different things from you

or landman, jesus christ that show stinks. If it ended at s1e3 it would have been a good show...

I think I bailed midway through E03. The dialogue for the female characters was diabolical.

That was my biggest gripe as well actually (except for the widow, her character was ok)... It was like none of the writers had met women before... Just leave them out of the show if you can't write them.

Agreed. Landman was unwatchable. 5/10 would be too kind.

  • Just finished Last Samurai Standing and it was reasonably enjoyable. The plot doesn't make a lot of sense and the protagonists are kinda boring, but it's still pretty entertaining because of the awesome action sequences, and it's nice to see a Japanese show set in a different time than the Edo period.

  • Been wanting to watch 12 Monkeys for the longest of time but no streamer had it….but now it’s on Prime Video!! Watching season 1 now

I forgot all about this tv series. I might give it a rewatch

Fun show. I remember being all in around “Atari”, great cast

  • Next binge= death by lightning, the lowdown

waiting to binge= mighty nein, stranger things final season, fionna and cake s2, fallout s2
Final my hero season was great, 10/10, cant believe its been 9years since I started the show.
