At some point you just have to call a spade a spade. Cait and Tyler are not good people. They had help around them, they had support. I come from pure dysfunction and no help growing up and never once did I use that as an excuse. I’m successful and I blame no one and take accountability of my own actions.
This grandma is the only extended family member with some class and morals in that family. Kim, Butch and April all made a fool of themselves in front of B&T over Carly. This lady here understood boundaries. Bless her.
Totally agree. I also read a comment saying she offered to let Cate and the baby live with her when she was pregnant. She seems so sweet, definitely the smartest and classiest family member we’ve seen.
This is Dave's mother. She's Cates paternal grandma. She lives in FL and Cate lived with her, not Dave, when she went to live in FL when she wasn't legally allowed to live with April.
According to Cate and Tyler's book, this woman had Cate on the straight and narrow for somewhere in the ballpark of a year, give or take a few months. She begged Cate to stay with her and even offered to buy her a car when she turned 16, but when she was legally allowed to return to Aprils home, Cate chose to go back to Michigan because of Tyler. There is nothing she could have done to prevent this. I believe I remember Cate saying her grandmother worried she'd end up pregnant in Michigan, which did end up happening shortly after she returned.
Pretty sure that happened well after Carly was born. I'm pretty sure that was her senior year of high school. She didn't live with Dave's mother then, she got an apartment with Tyler. I could be wrong, though. But I remember Cate choosing not to live with April at April's mothers house on the show.
I just re-read their book recently, and thats what they said (they do lie a lot though 😂)
Thats the reason the whole "ex" drama started in Teen Mom - because she had the boyfriend when she stayed there before coming back when April got another house and she could come back and live with her.
(I could also be wrong, I don't believe a lot of what they say anymore lol)
She really ruined her whole life for that idiot. She could have brought Carly up with her grandma, but of course she wouldn't have Tyler. This further proves she gave Carly up for Tyler.
Speaking from experience: I wonder if the problem there was that Cate had been without parental boundaries at April's for too long. My next door neighbors had that with the teenage daughter from the husband's first marriage, the girl had 0 rules at her mother's home, her dad attempted to parent her when she was at his house, but she knew she could go back to her mother where she'd have 0 rules, eventually when she was like 14/15 she chose to stop coming to his house.
Yep. And April was all Cate really knew. What 16 year old isn’t gonna miss their friends and stuff like that? Her father should’ve been more involved in Cate’s life from the start.
Makes sense, but if the abuse was so bad like she says then she should of stayed with her grandma, i was abused by both my parents through out my whole childhood and kept trying my damn best to get away from them
Because her whole entire cranium revolved around Tyler. Understandably so because she was like 16 and didn’t make the best decisions. She felt like without Tyler she was nothing.
I thought she lived with her dad down there? Is this her paternal grandmother then I assume? I definitely think she could have had a somewhat normal life if she hadn’t been so busy chasing Tyler and his approval. But I guess you never know.
And to me what she said was so important: she signs it "Catelyn's grandma" and said that she (Carly) doesn't know and doesn't need to know that. I wonder if she has continued to do that.
Cate lived with her in Florida but went back to Michigan but her grandma wanted her to stay with her and not move back with her mom but cate didn’t listen because she wanted to be with Tyler
Interesting. Getting pregnant young in the “old days” was sometimes just the culture of the time. Cate getting pregnant young was more due to a bad home situation. I wonder if that is the difference in why grandma seems so normal and April and Cate seem to struggle.
If you truly gave up your baby because you truly felt like the finances and the toxic living environment were reasons why you couldn’t keep your child then a part of you would always feel like you did the right thing. And you wouldn’t go out of your way to harass them because you know they created a life of their own.
When you give up your baby just to keep a guy and other selfish reasons then it’s not fair to harass the family and the baby who is now a teenager because you are riddled with guilt.
The fact that Carly looked at Cate like she was insane for having her footprint and birthdate tattoo is sad, but should have been an indicator to Cate that just having a tattoo or giving birth to someone isn’t parenting.
I’ve said it before and it’s still true: for all his faults (and boy are there a lot of them) Butch has absolutely zero illusions about himself or how his world works.
Why does she dress like this?!!! she’s young what the fuck is this outfit😔

Is that Tyler's mom doing Cate's grandmas toes? Lol
This is April's mom??
No. Cate’s dads mother.
Ooooh. Makes more sense. Thanks!
You’re welcome!
I thought the nail lady was Mac (Ryan's ex) at first.
Cate sure didn’t inherit her grandmother’s common sense & decency, respect for others boundaries, or her metabolism.
😭😭
Well she did mention that she’s been very strict on weight watchers for a long time.
Why didn’t Cate move in with her Grandma when she was younger? She seems like she has her head on her shoulders.
She did for a bit but came back for Tyler.
Because then she wouldn't have Tyler. There was no way Kim let him go with her
Cate comes off ignorant about drugs and addiction even after growing up surrounded by it.
What is that credit card looking thing in front of them?
it's for the chair massager
Oh thank you!! I never even thought of massaging chairs. Now I recognize it.

Info for anyone who wasn't aware:

She lived there when April's mother (her maternal grandmother) said Cate wasn't welcome in her home when April was evicted.
Pretty sure that happened well after Carly was born. I'm pretty sure that was her senior year of high school. She didn't live with Dave's mother then, she got an apartment with Tyler. I could be wrong, though. But I remember Cate choosing not to live with April at April's mothers house on the show.

This is why i dont feel bad for her, she chose to live a bad life because she wanted to be with tyler

16 year olds rarely make good decisions.
And she still feels the same , years of therapy and no progress
It’s so sad how she’s wasting her youth on depression
She should have stayed. Tyler made such a big deal about her being with someone else doing that time
Wtf? Cate has a normal and healthy grandmother, where was she when cate was growing up?
Isn't that who she lived with in Florida for a little bit when she was much younger?
I thought she lived with her dad down there? Is this her paternal grandmother then I assume? I definitely think she could have had a somewhat normal life if she hadn’t been so busy chasing Tyler and his approval. But I guess you never know.
He dad seems kind of a deadbeat so he was probably living with his mom. Cate could have really had a better life without Tyler.
Other commenters seem to think so, she obviously moved back for Tyler, she could have had a completely different life…
Cut to Butch walking right up to her at the wedding and saying ARE YOU CARLY???
Yep. This was before the wedding dance issue.
Did her grandma say she sent Carly gifts and cards?
And to me what she said was so important: she signs it "Catelyn's grandma" and said that she (Carly) doesn't know and doesn't need to know that. I wonder if she has continued to do that.
Yes.
Looking at Nana, and looking at her daughter? Yikes.
That’s Catelynn’s father’s mom. Her paternal grandmother
And where is her father, exactly? He’s a deadbeat for sure.
Oh the irony.
Grandma seems so normal and thoughtful about Carly. Too bad she wasn’t more of an influence in Cate’s life.
Cate lived with her in Florida but went back to Michigan but her grandma wanted her to stay with her and not move back with her mom but cate didn’t listen because she wanted to be with Tyler
Wow, how different their lives would have been. Not necessarily better, but could have been very different
I’ve always wondered about her. She said she got pregnant young and it was hard.
Interesting. Getting pregnant young in the “old days” was sometimes just the culture of the time. Cate getting pregnant young was more due to a bad home situation. I wonder if that is the difference in why grandma seems so normal and April and Cate seem to struggle.
If I am recalling correctly grandma said she was a teen mom!
I howled. The casual oh not to worry he prefers crack. Also flair checking in
Makes me laugh every time
The way I gasped. Let’s not normalize crack.
Is that her grandmother and her dad’s side or mom‘s side? I’m shocked because the grandmother seems so normal and not white trash at all.
Same, no way this sweet woman raised April!!
First thing I thought
I think it’s because the 80s became the crack epidemic
Yes, Cate went to live with her for a time in Florida for a time before she decided to move back with her mum and be with Tyler.
This is Cates dads mom, right?
Its Dave's mum
Is dave Cates bio dad?
Ahh see it being Dave’s mom makes MUCH more sense hahahaha
That is correct. They were both living in Florida at this time from memory.
April’s mom.Edit: based on downvotes I’m wrong. Don’t know who this lady is.
And I second that but with emphasis HOW THO??
Literally how though????? 😭🤣
Cate will never get over the fact that she gave her baby up for a guy to only having 3 more with him.
Allllll girls
It has to be such a hard road to walk on all sides.
I look at it like this.
If you truly gave up your baby because you truly felt like the finances and the toxic living environment were reasons why you couldn’t keep your child then a part of you would always feel like you did the right thing. And you wouldn’t go out of your way to harass them because you know they created a life of their own.

A tattoo of a kid you don't even have
I’ve said it before and it’s still true: for all his faults (and boy are there a lot of them) Butch has absolutely zero illusions about himself or how his world works.
Omg I have to see this clip
When was this?! She must have felt it was patronizing
The tattoo of a kid you don't have?
Season 1.
Thank you 😊
I agree must be hard for everyone.
