• Guy in charge of intel wants more intel. Shocking.

    • U.S. officials fear BGI’s vast collection of global genomics data is not just intended for precision medicine but a strategic asset that could be used for the Chinese military or surveillance, including the development of a biotech-enabled “super soldier.”

Yes there should be concerns of Chinese espionage but this is just stupid

I also share Senator Armstrongs concerns, hopefully Raiden can get the job done.

They need bio-engineered super soldiers to get in close, since their rifles keyhole at 10m.

    What's stupid about it?

    1) The idea’s this senator has are basically unhinged conspiracy theories with no basis in science. 2) BGI is actually one of the leading biomedical research organisations globally with regular publications in the top journals. Everyone benefits from their research. 3) The Biosecure Act was started after Congressional lobbying by a company called Illumina who BGI compete with. Illumina were bitter after having to pay 1/3 of a BILLION dollars in royalties after stealing intellectual property off BGI and beginning to lose their monopoly on DNA sequencers globally. Illumina have always played dirty and have tried to buy or snuff out every potential competitor - they are currently being sued for ‘anti-competitive behaviour’ by another American DNA sequencer manufacturer.

TLDR: Democrat Senator is a dumb tool using a China scare to protect the business interests of a monopolist donor. So business as usual in America.

  • Not this “super soldier” bullshit again.

Do we really lack for reasons to prevent spying that we need to make up B-movie plot lines about it?

Mr. President, we must not allow a super soldier gap!

Exactly!! The very real threat of Robocops should be enough.

indeed. Intelligence is how leaders - American, Chinese, or anyone else - make decisions regarding government policy

  • ● Chinese genomics company BGI has risen to prominence around the world but also has been subject to concerns about its gene sequencing and DNA collection practices.

    ● U.S. officials fear BGI’s vast collection of global genomics data is not just intended for precision medicine but a strategic asset that could be used for the Chinese military or surveillance, including the development of a biotech-enabled “super soldier.”

    ● Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), the top Democrat on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, warned at the CNBC CFO Council Summit this week that BGI will become even bigger than the Chinese telecom giant Huawei. “It’s terrifying,” he said.
