EDIT: Thank you everyone!! This was incredibly helpful, I am meeting my friend today so I will be gifting her the set 🥰

................ Hello!

I bought a deck when I first started getting into Tarot, the box was so beautiful, it was the only one in the store I was called to, however, when I brought it home and opened it, I didn't have that connection with the actual cards, so I never actually used the deck.

I have since purchased a new deck I love and use and this one lays there untouched.

So now my question, the unused deck, can I gift it? I know someone who is into Tarot but does not have her own deck, I believe she follows "the deck must be gifted" so can I gift my opened but unused deck? (I actually still think the cards are in original order) or does the gifted deck need to be wrapped in original packaging with the intention when purchased to be given as a gift?

Look forward to hearing from you friends 😊

  • Absolutely. You could gift a deck you had been using for years if you felt called to do so. If you think it is something she will appreciate and you have no need to hold onto it then go ahead.

One thing I will say though, is to maybe look at the deck once more before you do. If you were drawn to it there may be a reason. I bought my first deck and put it away soon afterwards. I bought another deck and I knew that was the right deck for me at that time. One day I was called to pick up the original deck and it’s been great to me ever since. I now let myself choose whichever deck I am pulled to when doing a reading and I always feel drawn to a specific one.

You might not need to. You might have already had an intuitive feeling that this deck is meant for your friend. Or you may genuinely feeling no attachment to it. If so pass it on. This could be the perfect opportunity for the deck to serve its purpose. It’s only if you’re sensing some kind of hesitation when you consider letting it go.

  • A friend of mine gave me one of his decks that he just never connected with. I was happy to receive it.

  • Flip the question: Why could you not gift your deck?

Yeah. There's no need to make up new rules on what you can and can't do with tarot cards.

  • Definitely! I’ve gifted decks both new and used.

Sometimes I impulsively buy a deck with pretty art but never really vibe with it. Sometimes I use a deck for a while, but then feel like we’re done with each other.

And sometimes someone will randomly gift a deck to me that I’d never think to buy for myself, and it becomes my go-to for a season.

  • Gifting is my first choice when my collection gets bigger than my storage space. A local store in my area also has a deck exchange event, which is my second choice, but sometimes combines with my first choice, because I fail to find a deck I want do for the exchange part.
