I have just received a belated Christmas gift from one of my mum's friends. It's a Christmas decoration. In mid January. Sigh
Do you know of a person who puts on a flawless front, but theres always a suspicion that they might be a problem despite the lack of concrete evidence.
Driving test in Bankstown in 2 weeks.
It sucks not having a car of my own and having to completely rely on external instructor cars for practice.
Good luck! May the Bankstown bin chickens be with you!
Happy to get through some gardening today - Neighbours have lent me their green bins and am loading them up with the Macadamia nut branch cuttings for tomorrow's morning collection. (Had cut them up into the right sizes don't worry!) Interestingly, they have sharp stabby things which seem less noticeable once wet from the rain so my hands are saved somewhat. It'll be a few more cycles before I can start sorting through the cuttings from the other trees and shrubs. It's a good job to do when it's overcast. Kind of love this feeling of sprinkling rain when you're feeling warm from exercise!
LPT - dont have your aircon crash during the hottest spell of summer., not only does it suck at the time, you wont get any service call for weeks
Oh noes, horrible timing for it to crash on you. They'll take all the installation jobs first before repairs for sure.
Ouch. I hope you get that resolved soon!
i see it rarely but i wish more online merchants would have applepay for third party browsers implemented
there's been many instances where i abandoned a shopping cart because they didn't support apple pay and i don't trust anyone with my credit card anymore.
understand that i have ecosystem lockin but it's so bloody easy - which is also very dangerous
just use paypal and not credit card.
Does anyone know if/ when the Central station south tunnel is open again
If you mean the Devonshire St tunnel, it's reopening next Monday
Yes thank u!
Was supposed to have an outdoor picnic/bbq at centennial park this weekend that’s probably now a wash out. Does anyone have any recommendations for cheap location nearby that is covered and will allow a bbq.
Gosh what is wrong with rental REAs seriously.
They keep pushing me to sign a new lease and I've clearly stated multiple times I intend to roll over onto periodic. They keep ignoring those messages and instead keep sending reminders like "your lease remains unsigned and is very overdue."
No it's not, there's no "due date" for a lease, my current term is not up yet and things automatically roll into periodic here. It's only overdue because an REA wants to make new lease signing commission or something.
I'm trying not to be combative with the rea because the LL has been great but they're really trying my patience.
It's also better for you in terms of notice I believe it you are on periodic
Include your LL on the next email to the REA stating you wish to continue as is without signing a new lease.
this period between coming back from work and waiting for australia day long weekend is the draggiest

we def need a public holiday in between
One around the middle of August would be great.
Just in time for my birthday would be even better.
I vote that we declare your birthday a public holiday. It’s only right.
Hey, if you insist. Who am I to argue with getting a day off every year.
I am very okay with an extra public holiday, be it cat related or not.
Upon further reflection, because I'm 2happycats, it would have to be two days. One for each cat.
It's science.
Cat science.
I am also very okay with this development
Wheelchair User Recommendations Hi. I am wondering if anyone on here has stayed at the Skye Suites Sydney?? My wife is a full-time wheelchair user, and we are looking for somewhere to stay when we visit in November. We would have ideally liked an apartment, but are open to options. It will be the first stop of our multi City Holiday, and our 40th wedding anniversary, so we would like something nice but importantly central as getting out can be challenging. Looking for any recommendations. Many thanks.
Couldn’t care less about work prior to Christmas break, can’t care about it now as well!! Procrastination and holiday mode still on!! Literally dragging myself to login into work!!
Monday blues hitting hard
I spent most of today yelling at my screen. Urgh. Logged off right on 5pm despite all the work and just walked the dog to de-stress.
It really doesn’t help that it’s a bit chilly. I just want to snuggle in bed and play a video game all day
It’s such a shock after last week. I had to get out a jacket to go to the post office.
Nice to be out in the world after the heat and smoke, even if it is a bit drizzly.
Definitely more my type of weather
Someone quit just before my holiday, and now it's just two of us. The other guy put his two weeks notice in (tried to convince him not to lol).
Not sure when they're going to hire someone new but I'd rather not be the only person. It's going to be beyond stressful, if so. Not sure what to do.
Good Luck with your situation, if you are going to work on your own please bring it up with your boss and log everything you done during that time so if you are planning to stay at the job or move up within so you have leverage.
You should be rewarded with your work and if they don't give a damn well that's when I would be thinking about changing jobs for sure.
Thanks for the kind words.
And yeah you're definitely right. I should really utilise this position if I manage to get through. I've already had a few hard and unusual situations tbh (one was basically babysitting my team at one point). It's been a little bit acknowledged in the past but not really.
I think this place is not my future.
Smokey again today. I see there is a fire in Liverpool.
Too much light rain/drizzle for the smoke here in the inner west.
It really seems to only be the very early morning. The rain does dampen it.
I have taken the opportunity to de-Christmas, which is always a bit of a workout.
I salute your efforts. We don’t Christmas unless we’re staying at the relos (we do feed ourselves good stuff, but we don’t have kids at home now so we don’t do presents or decorations).
I did however spend the day getting rid of stuff on eBay. Remarkable how much people will pay for old cameras.
I always put on a movie that doesn’t require much attention, so I know how long it took. 1 hour 20 minutes. I did point out that with a a bit of help, it would have taken less time. Someone’s always really keen to put it up, less so with the taking down.
I think everyone is in declutter mode. Trying to give away stuff in the buy nothing groups and no bites. I know the local op shop is turning people away as well. We have a council cleanup next week, do I think a lot will go out then.
That’s generally the cycle just after Christmas. People are home more & have new shiny things so they go through their stuff to make space. The amount of stuff people dump on the curb is also crazy.
It’s been really interesting, because after a while, I stop seeing things. They’re just there.
Holding onto things that someone gave as a gift when it doesn’t serve anymore is crazy, and yet I know I do it.
After 30+ years in one house it adds up.
Absolutely. It’s like a geological adventure - layers and layers of things.
It's my first full week back at work, trying to concentrate on being grateful for having gainful employment instead of having the horrors about engaging with it all for another year.
What's stopping you from changing jobs?
It's more about the psychological adjustment to full-time work than the job itself - the philosophical questions about why we live the way we do.
On a more practical level, having a break for a couple of weeks often refreshes my outlook on work but it didn't this time. I also don't think the jobs market is crash hot at the moment, unfortunately.
I feel the same, most years I come back re-energized but all I see is worsening corporate dystopia on the horizon this year.
Somehow the act of trying to force myself to be grateful for having a job is making it worse
Crazy how time flies, going to the first orientation session at daycare for my 16 month old, any other working parents out there who've been through this journey, does it eventually feel more comfortable leaving your kids in the care of others (who aren't close family or friends) ?
My boi is much better after going the day care. Important fact is choosing the right one ☝️
The kid will make friends soon and be smiling when they go in. And when a bit older they'll be so excited to tell you about their day.
It did - my kid is starting school this year and has told me quite seriously that they would prefer to live at daycare, if possible, and go to school from there. All her friends are there! It's a small centre though, and the educators have their own kids there as well which is reassuring.
It's a big scary thing, though, it's okay to feel nervous/worried. And to move your kids if you have doubts about the service.
First day back at work - Oof!
Downsides of running late for work: being late for work
Upside: I get to ride a Milennium train :D they're probably my favourite trains, solely for the large text on the screen displaying the next stop. I can see it from the furthest sideways seat, even without my glasses (Granted I have to get my eye to focus a bit and probably squint a bit for it)
Anyone else get a blackout on Saturday night? My roommate and I both woke up around 8pm because my fan and his air conditioner had turned off. We ended up watching Stranger Things season 1 (haven't seen the newest season) on my tablet using my data, until our roommate came home at 12/1am, when it was still dark. Apparently, first roommate forgot the first season was kinda scary - only made worse by the fact we were sitting in total darkness lmaoo. The power came back somewhere around 1-2am but the three of us ended up sitting around talking until like 4, when I went to bed. They didn't.
I was at a party in Northbridge & the power went out from 8ish - 11ish. We relied on fairy lights & a stereo which ran on batteries to keep the area lit enough for us & to play music to keep the party going.
Oh my god. That honestly sounds pretty cool!! I hope it was fun!
It was actually still fun, we chose to not let the power outage stop the celebration
Hell yeah man.
There was a blackout in the Kings Cross area from 2am to 6am Sunday morning.
Morning gang! Happy Monday 😊 anyone around Five Dock hear any music late into the night? Trying to figure out if it was the tennis or neighbours
Edit: saw a few posts on FB saying it could have been an event at marrickville last night (not whinging) just impressed the bass can travel so far!
I could hear thumping music in Carlingford last night and couldn't work out where it was coming from. Wonder if we were hearing the same thing.
Potentially! Reckon the cloud cover made it more audible.
It may be possible something was on at SOP then? Sometimes the noise from the stadium travels.
Some wet & warm weather coming up; but so much preferable to the 40c+ days.
Don’t love the sticky days either so
within 48hrs it is like living in two hemispheres
Looked at the temperature range of the past few days yesterday and it was wild.
42° to 22° the next day.
