Yeah our rail network is sprawling and trains take forever it's good to give them a drink and a snack. Maybe don't give them a whole punnet of cherrys and then when the pits predictably spill on the floor do nothing.
Just clean up after it's not that difficult.
The people who live like this are not the type to read this and go 'oh! Okay. I'll do better next time'
True, but sometimes it helps to vent.
I would suggest reading isn’t going to be in their top three skills at all.
But if more people are aware of it and feel the same, perhaps when they encounter it they’ll be compelled to say something to those people, then someone else does the same next time and on and on.
Right! It's not hard to keep it tidy. I was waiting at the drs the other day and this toddler stopped right infront of the front door and tipper her packet of pretzels on the floor. There was salt and little bits of broken pretzels all over the floor. The dad just sat there watching.
Gross. It's hard when its crumby but you can at least pick up the main mess and apologise.
Yeah, clean up as much as you can, notify the staff, and personally I like to at least ask for a dustpan so I can do it myself.
100% especially since there's a bin at every (or at least most) platforms.
I've seen people throw their rubbish on the ground in front of bins.
Uggggh thats so lazy
what is wrong with people, i swear.
Why clean up after yourself? Cleaners exist!
Why show your city respect? Who cares!
Same excuse people use at Maccas. Service might be quicker if they were behind the counter and not cleaning up after those filthy animals!
(They are probably the same people who don't put the trolley back, and leave it free to roll around the car park, or worse still, take it and leave it on the street!)
As a dog owner myself, pick up after your dog too!!
THIS!
Rant time: there's a guy who is a serial non-poop-picker-upper who takes both of his dogs on daily walks OFF LEASH (angry noises rn). But here's the b e a u t i f u l part: their shit is 50% diarrhoea 50% corn.
CORN!!! Oh my gosh. FIRST OF ALL, Human stomach's can't even digest corn, let alone god damn dogs.
the f\*king audacity.*
To be fair though, diarrhoea is nigh on impossible to pick up off grass. Family member's dog had liquid shits due to a litany of health problems (plus neglect from previous 'owners') until they shelled out for high quality dog food.
Not littering is basically the Aussie motto.
I think there’s a lot of ppl that didn’t get that memo!
Bring back the don’t be a tosser campaign
Also, “Do the Right Thing”
Yeah so many weren't here for that campaign, time for reeducation. It did actually work well.
We need to teach people shame
how about we teach kindness instead.
It costs NOTHING to be kind and to go out of your way to be a kind person.
It's easier to teach people shame than it is kindness. And it's already hard to teach shame.
Why not both?
Shame is much easir
People know shame too well and you should be ashamed of yourself for suggesting it.
We need to teach people connection and community, and to take pride in having standards of behaviour in public. She just disconnects people and makes them go “fuck it, I didn’t care about them anyway.”
Less shame, more civic-mindedness.
Strongly disagree. When we taught our children not to shame people, we meant don't shame them for looking or sounding a bit different or having a lisp or a disability and things along these lines.
Not for behaving in grossly antisocial ways. We absolutely should shame the fuck out of people. And for those who have no shame, fine them.
I think it's more... Everyone should clean up after themselves.
It's not just parents that leave rubbish behind.
Sure but kids generate more rubbish.
Arguable.
There are some grubs that are adults, teenagers and children.
Irrespective, they should all (or their parents on their behalf) clean after themselves
Kids leave crumbly bits, adults leave whole food containers / packets / bottles. What are you going to do? 🤷♀️
I don't understand the point you're trying to make?
I’m agreeing with you and adding that different demographics leave different kinds of mess?
It was probably that "what are you going to do" line that confused them.. they probably took it as threatening instead of hopeless lol
I wish the ticket inspector people were just constantly on the train to book people hogging all the seats by laying down, shoes all over seats or leaving rubbish everywhere.
No joke, got on a train in city at peak hour, last week and someone had a half eaten mudcake over a seat. Just left there.
chocolate or caramel mudcake? and was it coles or woolies brand? haha
they're the real questions here
Woolies or gtfo
glad we all agree that woolies has the superior mudcakes.
I believe you, easily. can imagine it happening any time
I guess not everyone enjoys having children, and some of them want everyone else to share the suffering of their poor choices.
And I bet they are the ones who ask why people aren't having children. Way to sell it!
This is true tbh! Not everyone enjoys having children, and then there's people who just don't like kids for what ever reasons.
People can be douches for sure.
Parents are grots.
I witnessed a couple of fathers and their kids on the train. It was obviously after a soccer game in the mud. The fathers encouraged the antics of the boys, which resulted in mud all over the handrails.
Ahhh gross. And then its always someone who really needs them.that gets the shit end of that one.
to be fair, mud on the handrails isn't the worst thing on them. I shudder to think what germs/bacteria are actually on handrails.
shudders
I still feel terrible guilt over my kid throwing up just as we pulled into Bristol station in the UK - literally as soon as the train stopped and the doors opened.
I couldn't stay on to clean up because not only was the next stop an hour away, but we had to transfer to the airport bus for an international flight.
A decade on and it still haunts me.
Oh u were on the 12.40 from Heathcote too?
Lucky they can afford cherries.
Agreed. Some breeders have become the most entitled arrogant sh*ts, some dog owners too. The world is not your waste bin.
Thanks for letting me know! I always thought it was okay to litter on public transport.
No worries! It's hard to tell.these days with so many changing soical norms. Like we can't piss on it wither unless we're in one of the trains witha toilet and even then we have to do it IN the toilet. Wild stuff.
Thanks for letting me know! I always thought it was okay to litter on public transport.
There are thousand of visitors from 3rd world countries who are here for sightseeing and sadly in their country, littering is part of their daily habit and they take it here with them
