2330 - The Ponds
Car in the driveway is showing 24.5 degrees, car in the garage (since 1500) is showing 32.5.
AC controller is showing inside air temp at 27 (AC has been off for 4 hours)
As for today's activities: was out and about putting water in various spots for the local wildlife, checking on the ones I know. Saw many of them; they were doing as well as possible, panting away but holding themselves together. Also turns out the local cockatoo loves chilled water. Hope he doesn't tear my window out because I'm two minutes late the next time.
Blessed be thy Panasonic, for you keep me comfortable when my bathroom is hot enough to steam crayfish, the graphics card is running at it's 86c thermal cap and touching anything metal outside causes 2nd degree burns.
Portable air con is probably the worst invention to ever exist. Noisy as fuck an after running it for hours the room temperature is barely any different.
Insulate the duct with either insulation cover from ebay/amazon or insulation bubble wrap. Seal any window drafts using weather seal from bunnings. Portable air con feels loud if it is too big for the room it is placed. It feels moot coz it circulates warm air if the duct is not insulated. Probably a bit late for today but maybe for next time. Have spent days researching and finally did all this and it worked. The room cooled down else the duct keeps acting like a radiator
Insulating the duct makes it slightly more efficient, but the main inefficiency is the way it sucks in more ambient temperature air from outside the room. Which is unavoidable, it needs to exhaust hot air and for that reason needs to intake ambient air.. Sealing the room just makes the machine struggle to intake/output air. You can technically get around this by building an enclosure for the portable machine so that it intakes air from outside, but at that point its a ton of effort trying to force a portable air con to do what its not designed to and you might as well just get a window/split system.
Try set ro 25 deg for a bit, then when it cools down a little, drop to 22 deg and keep it there. Make sure the water outlet is connected, or if not, the condensor tank emptied.
If our 28kW ducted isn't doing much for the single storey house, then imagine what a small compressor is trying to deal with in a room.
Its the one where you put a tube to exhaust the hot air through the window. The problem is since it is piping air outside of the room it must intake air into the room. The air outside of the room is hot, so basically the air con is doing a whole lot of running and not a lot of going anywhere. Its much better to get a window or split system.
Current time 1500.
According to my car (in the garage) its 44.5 degrees here in The Ponds. (and no, I don't have a black roof, mine is Silver, I think I just doxxed myself though because I think I have the only light coloured roof in this suburb)
40 degrees out near Parra. I went out early this morning for essentials, and it was already 30 degrees around 8 AM. Stayed inside since then. As long as the power doesn't go out, I should be fine.
So a power line went down near Penshurst area...so I had no power since 10am but it's back up. Thank goodness for Ausgrid for sorting it out so quickly. It was estimated to be done by 3pm, but it's 1pm and it's back. Super grateful for people that get things back up so quickly for us.
40 at westmead, my apt will soon turn into a sauna once the sun starts to go down at like 2 or 3PM. Aircon is not that helpful. Just gonna embrace the heat and wait for the rain tomorrow
41.5C at noon, driving past the Bay Run on the way to Ryde pool (which is mayhem BTW). Not surprisingly, the Bay run was very quiet, just a few dedicated fellas.
38 at Sydney AP (Mascot). Skipped the run, will do it tomorrow after my bike.
Hit the gym, then went to the beach, came in when the sand started burning our feet. Back inside for a few hours, then off to meet a friend later (inside in air-con!).
It’s nearing 40 in the inner west and without aircon so just pointing one of those circular air mover fans right in front of my face because when I try the cyclonic magic, my light fixtures start swinging.
I bought a bunch of yummy juices and drinks and have consumed them all by 12 and I’m kicking myself I didn’t buy some limes to squeeze into some water.
If you have extra ice, you can put a drink in a ziplock bag and put it into a bigger bag with salt and ice and you’ll get a slushy in no time.
37 at 11:50 in Camden. I got to the pools early enough to secure a shade umbrella and I'm spending the day jumping in to cool off then reading my kindle in the shade.
Just got back from taking my dog to the park before the heat got too absurd. If he doesn't get his two walks in he goes berserk.
Car said it was 44, google is saying it's 36. 11:30am
In aircon now, fan going as well. Aircon can struggle upstairs when the missus insists that we put the heavy blinds up and let light through the windows. I've put them all down while she's Netflixing.
We've been in our art deco - brick apartment for 20 years - no air con. New Years Day 2006 was 45 degrees and we had the windows open dying. We popped down to the neighbour below who's place was icy cool. He just shut his blinds and windows when it was cooler.
So we have had our blinds shut and windows closed from about 7am. A fan is blowing.
It's 36 degrees in Pendle Hill air con and has been on since last night staying home watching Netflix too hot to go out only to take my dog out for toilet breaks hope everyone is staying cool today cheers
33 at 11am in Helensburgh but breezy, honestly it’s not hot in the shade, been working in the garden all morning. I did go for a walk mostly in the sun at 9am when it was like 28-30 and that was definitely hot. Proves how important shade is.
33 in Newtown. I took dog out at 7am and have no plans on going out until I take the dog back out tonight. AC blasting since last night, drinking lots of water. Anyone who enjoys summer is a psychopath.
Spent half the day inside Dee Why RSL, lunching with good mates. 42 C outside.

44 degrees at Parramatta at 3pm today. But with a breeze more bearable outside than all week.
Looks like there's a cool change on the way in around two hours: https://i.redd.it/u2liq2n43hcg1.png

Just dropped almost 20 degrees south of Kiama
Excellent. I'd love to see how accurate this weather forecast source is.
Edit: yep, quite accurate.
18:20 now, still almost 40C in Brookvale as far as I know.
Had to abandon a few of my bus trips today due to aircon breaking, weak aircon, and me overheating.
After a cold shower the headache is fading. 6-7L of water including a Powerade doesn't seem to have been enough.
40 Rouse Hill at 5:55pm. AC is on struggle street (30 inside my house), I might need to go stick a sprinkler on it.
Countdown to sunset begins!!!
40°C Pyrmont 17:30. Saw a possum on the footpath who didn't make it.
42° Rushcutters bay, no one at the park, which is usually packed on a sunny Saturday
Yeah walked around to get something from the nearby convenience store and the streets were completely dead. Pretty eerie.
42 - Rossmore and it's 4:30.
A pleasant 25c all day in my tiny apartment.
Blessed be thy Panasonic, for you keep me comfortable when my bathroom is hot enough to steam crayfish, the graphics card is running at it's 86c thermal cap and touching anything metal outside causes 2nd degree burns.
44 on Appin road going past Campbeltown hospital
Which lane
Far left southbound 😂
42 in Surry Hills. The beach was beautiful this morning but fled once the temp started to rise.
Looks like it's not gonna cool off for a bit
46 degrees according to my car in south west.
3:22 Campbelltown 39 right now, about to hit 40 by 4pm 🫠

Genuinely curious, is it one that is ducted out a window? This might stop me from buying one for my bedroom…

If only… the joys of renting
You can still use window/split system, you just need a temporary mount for it instead of fixing it permanently to the wall
Turn it off then
It is off
Throw it out the window
I'm going to sell it second hand for a loss then just get a window machine
Current time 1500.

45 in my Black Car that had been sitting in the sun. Also here in the ponds.
43 In Smithfield, also using steam inside the factory, nice 65 degrees in some areas
Bushfire in Mt Colah just downgraded to "advice"
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1AzzyiUzAM/
Shout out to the people getting the sheets washed and dried in record time!
I have a load about to go out.
I think it will be dry within 20 minutes
I almost wish I had more stuff to wash lol
I can continue using my washing machine & line without a break today.
Just remember footware before you head out to hang. I burnt my feet just going out to check the cats outdoor water fountain.
thanks for the reminder I can bring it in.
hung out about 10 minutes ago
44.5c in backyard. Central Coast.
Went down to Bulli from 9-12, water was amazing. Was 41 when we started driving back.
42°c in Annandale around 25 minutes ago
39 freshwater. Water is preem
Was gorgeous there this morning but fled before 11
40 degrees out near Parra. I went out early this morning for essentials, and it was already 30 degrees around 8 AM. Stayed inside since then. As long as the power doesn't go out, I should be fine.
39, CBD, just got out of the new Avatar movie. This heat is so unpleasant I'd almost consider watching it again. It's THAT bad outside.
How was it ? Do you rate it ?
38 lidcombe … getting cooked outside. Ev n walking inside the shop ctr carpark is enuf to make me wet the shirt
Uh its 43 outsire on the road around hurstville. 1.30pm
Just as forecasted
39 in Minto at 1.30pm
39.1 in Lower Portland. Apparently it feels like 35. I reckon it feels like 40+ degrees. Thank goodness for air con & fans.
A delightful 39.6 at Blacktown while I make my way into Olympic Park to melt even more
35 at Willoughby, just about to go to Peakhurst, can't wait!
Sounds like jumper weather for Willoughby
So a power line went down near Penshurst area...so I had no power since 10am but it's back up. Thank goodness for Ausgrid for sorting it out so quickly. It was estimated to be done by 3pm, but it's 1pm and it's back. Super grateful for people that get things back up so quickly for us.
Spare a thought for those Ausgrid employees working on those lines. Must be awful in this heat.
40 at westmead, my apt will soon turn into a sauna once the sun starts to go down at like 2 or 3PM. Aircon is not that helpful. Just gonna embrace the heat and wait for the rain tomorrow
Beach by 9:30am, back home by 11:00am. Now all the windows are closed and I'm smashing Zooper Doopers.
We did 8:45am to 10:45am and the sand heat was intense when we were leaving.
Couldn’t believe the people there at like 2 or 3 today. It’s actually too hot to be at the beach!
38 lidcombe … getting cooked outside. Ev n walking inside the shop ctr carpark is enuf to make me wet the shirt
My washing dried on the line in 30 minutes. I'm taking that as a positive.
It's awful that it's hot and windy.
Yeah I put some couch blankets out and they were dry by the time next load of laundry finished!

39 in Epping, gonna melt
Yep we’ve hit 39 in Marrickville too. Eeeep.
It’s nearing 40 in the inner west and without aircon so just pointing one of those circular air mover fans right in front of my face because when I try the cyclonic magic, my light fixtures start swinging.

38 at 11:58 in Westmead. I've got AC, but it's still around 27 inside
32 - 11:56 Sans Souci. Live close to beach, easy to walk there for quick dip
Flew in from Melbourne (44°) last night fml
out of the frying pan.......
11:55 - 36C at Holsworthy, 18C inside. Lucky to have rented pretty well insulated house.
37 at 11:50 in Camden. I got to the pools early enough to secure a shade umbrella and I'm spending the day jumping in to cool off then reading my kindle in the shade.
11:52 am, Earlwood, 37°. The large sandstone rock in our backyard will undoubtedly turn into magma soon.
36 at 11:45am in Eastwood
Haven’t even gotten out of bed yet
[deleted]
37 at 11am in Five Dock. Dashing out to do errands otherwise hiding inside
37 atm near Five Dock, 23 indoors. I know where I'm staying today.
Just got back from taking my dog to the park before the heat got too absurd. If he doesn't get his two walks in he goes berserk.
Car said it was 44, google is saying it's 36. 11:30am

37 in Blacktown at 11:30am, have the AC turned on and the pool pump turned on, thank god for solar and batteries
27 degrees in the apartment.
By 5pm, the temp inside went up to 30 degrees but still bearable.
In Newtown, it's actually not bad. Pretty breezy and the air is dry.
11:30am 35° Dural.
Wife is waiting for me to pack away my tools from the back deck. I’m thinking that is a tomorrow job when it’s cool and raining
Update: Cool change just appeared on radar off Gabo Island. It's Gusty and strong. 11.30am 37.5 in Granville
36 at 11.20 in Ashfield. Got the portable air conditioner ready for when the temp starts with a 4
Better to try to maintain a reasonable temp initially than ask your AC to work its arse off attempting to drop the temp on a day like this.
More economical, also.
35⁰ springwood, blue mountains. 11:18am Air con on, solar producing and battery charging
It's 36 degrees in Pendle Hill air con and has been on since last night staying home watching Netflix too hot to go out only to take my dog out for toilet breaks hope everyone is staying cool today cheers
37c in Campbelltown rn - Thank goodness for the 3hr super off-peak that came in clutch & finally putting the AC to use :))
Walked the dog at 5.30am & it was already 27. Just had a dip at Barangaroo harbour pool to cool off. Now hiding inside where it’s cool. Currently 36
33 at 11am in Helensburgh but breezy, honestly it’s not hot in the shade, been working in the garden all morning. I did go for a walk mostly in the sun at 9am when it was like 28-30 and that was definitely hot. Proves how important shade is.
35 in Loftus. Finishing off work soon and getting into beers at home. Air con is on full blast. Have to keep the fluids up……
Just got back from a quick walk around Centennial Park - 33 it reckons. The amount of people running was insane (!!) I am a puddle rn
33 in Newtown. I took dog out at 7am and have no plans on going out until I take the dog back out tonight. AC blasting since last night, drinking lots of water. Anyone who enjoys summer is a psychopath.
