From last season. No game time for players under 21 (perhaps a handful for Parker?). The only team in the Championship with no under 21s. Not healthy long term.

  • Fotmob has Sam parker playing 80 mins over 7 games last season, the only others I could see around the team are Arthur parker who didn't play and govea who also didn't play he played the season earlier.

It is slightly worrying that we've not been giving mins to youth players recently but that one of the things I feel matos will improve given time.

Especially since Matos reputation at Liverpool was developing youth

  • Didn’t really understand Matos’ decision to go full strength yesterday from the off.

Was a good opportunity to not only give some younger players experience but also to allow our regular starters to rest up ready for return to league action. Understand we may not have anyone immediately breaking through but chance to give any young player experience should not be turned away like it appeared to be yesterday.

Aside from Vigoroux, don’t think any of our usual starters got that.

Galbraith, Tymon, and Cabango played the entire 120 minutes; Vipotnik and Ronald played not so much short of that.

Felt it was extremely risky doing that especially with a few of those individuals; Vipotnik aside from Wales who I’ve been impressed with regardless of the penalty miss last night is our only senior striker and clear source of goals with Idah and Cullen injured; not too sure where Samuels-Smith was last night (rumour of him being recalled) but Tymon has looked tired last few weeks and I think was definitely injured last night as he definitely would have been one of the players to step up in the shootout. Subbing off Casey who has also impressed for Burgess who has played every single minute of the league this season so far was again a head scratcher. An injury to Galbraith as well and we are in big trouble so really didn’t like Matos’ team selection yesterday.

Thankfully we’ve got a week now until Birmingham at home to recover as we’ve had a gruelling schedule the last month

Apparently there is some mixed rumors going on in regards to Samuels-Smith. Swansea Independent claims Chelsea may recall him and will go out on loan to another Championship team. The other was an article on Wales Online by Tom Coleman postmatch yesterday where I believe it was said Samuels-Smith picked up a hamstring injury in training and is out 3 weeks. Which is conveniently when the transfer window ends. I don’t know if there’s something to that or not, but something to keep an eye on.

Matos said In the pre match interview he was out with a small problem.

Yes, thank you. I wasn’t 100% sure on the Matos quote, so I didn’t mention it in my previous post, but it was Matos said that he picked up a hamstring injury and would be out around 3 weeks. Hope the rumors of the Chelsea recall aren’t true since that would leave us thin on the back line.

  • For all the positive PR our academy got following the Potter season we've always depended on loans to get our own youth necessary gametime. And then we wonder why our record for bringing players through is so poor. No trust in kids unless they wear a more fashionable badge.

  • You’re not wrong in your concern but we haven’t actually produced that many big players since relegation apart from Rodon and Roberts the other successful players from our academy since our time in the prem were bought in. Dan james, mcburnie etc all came from other clubs. Looks like the lissah might be the next one. It does sound like the academy is getting the attention it deserves at last as it feels like under the previous owners it was all but forgotten after they had cashed in on the players that came good.

  • Nobody broken through since Cullen and Cooper. Lack of investment in the academy must be a factor here. Although things are looking more promising with the current bunch.

Only one I can think of is Abdulai, but it is concerning that we’ve had no youth promoted or breakthrough in quite some time when the academy had a good reputation or used to. Lissah, Parker, Wilson, Govea, and Congreve were supposedly highly rated but all except Govea are 21 and should have had some first team appearances by now. Only other two highly rated players I can remember were Iwan Morgan and Ali Al Hamadi, but they both left to sign elsewhere.

  • Had no idea Aimar Govea was out on loan at Girona B.

Neither did I. One appearance for them. Recall?
