There's been very little comment on the second half foul against Ronald that was given as a free kick right on the edge of the box. The extended highlights suggest that initial contact was probably fractionally outside the box, but contact was sustained over a longer period and continued into the box. The rules state that in this situation a penalty should be awarded, because it's not where a foul begins that matters but rather where it ends. Another decision (1 all at the time) that's probably gone against us.
These are always given that way though, regardless of what the laws of the game say.
I agree. The only exception is when a shirt pull starts outside and continues inside. I've seen those given.
Agreed was a pen also wasn't a foul in the lead up to the second goal, both players had a high foot Burgess won the ball clearly so if it's a foul it should have been to us but as both players had a high foot ref should have just played on imo.
Yes, the Millwall player reacted to the contact made with Burgess after Burgess played the ball, and the ref made the decision because of that.
Annoyingly, Ronald and Inoussa are getting a reputation now of throwing themselves to the ground every time there's initial contact. Don't know if this is on Matos but it is ingrained in Portuguese football culture to do this and "win" fouls.
I think there's a degree of truth in this, but Ronald does get fouled a lot (56 times this season, nearly the most for a winger in the league). But, yes, he may well have a reputation that precedes him. He needs to be taught to try and stay on his feet more, and not to be so demonstrative when he is fouled. He may then get even more decisions.
Thought it was a penalty at the game, however upon watching the highlights it looks to be outside the box in my opinion. Good call by the ref.
The initial contact probably was, but Ronald continues his run into the box, and so does the contact. But I agree that these decisions are rarely given according to the rules of the game.
