• It is overdramatic but kind of true. Like every premerge boot is someone not making merge - so yes every premerge will effect the merge dynamic.

Agreed. For instance, in Survivor 41 we all thought Liana was overreacting at the time when she was so mad they didn't take out Xander in the 2nd tribal as she thought that might've been the only chance to do so, but turns out she was right and it was her only chance and Xander ended up making it to the end and played a big role in her elimination.

i wish liana would come back. i liked her and she had a pretty good read on people minus the KIP moment. but in her defense it was the first KIP ever.

and to be fair to her the KIP was ruined moreso by Shan than her

This last KIP was the ultimate fumble.

  • Every tribal has the potential to be monumental

Imagine how differently Survivor as a whole plays out if Richard had been the first boot like his tribe was considering

And sure, most early boots wouldn’t have gone on to be the next Richard, but every person impacts the influence of the game somewhat. Only scenario where that’s not the case is if the group majority has already agreed on several boots out, just not what order to boot them (such as Nicol and Annie in this most recent season). But even then, it was always a possibility that Kele wouldn’t have gone to tribal again until a swap or a merge, and whichever person was spared could have been a deciding vote after a swap or a merge

If you’re playing the game thinking “So long as I make merge, it doesn’t matter what happens”, you’ve probably already lost

  • I feel like producers encourage players to talk like this.

  • Every voteout affects the rest of the game. So it sounds dramatic but I absolutely agree.

Did you vote out the right person? Someone else here either might vote you out later, find an idol, or win the game.

Were you in on the vote? If not you might never get your footing back.

    Etc.

  • Don’t forget the post merge tribal where whoever is at the bottom says everyone is playing someone else’s scared game and that they need to shake things up by playing the bottoms game.

  • part of being a successful survivor player is being able to look into a camera and describe what is currently happening in a way that suggests to the viewer that they should not touch that dial

no they should air more confessionals of players saying "honestly this doesn't really matter. This isn't pivotal. I'm just waiting for the merge to start doing anything, that's the meta nowadays."

    /s

This tribal council is so-so. What I'm really focused on is checking off another item on my Survivor Bucket list!

  • My favorite is at the next challenge after the early tribals when Jeff does his "Taking your first look at the new X tribe...X voted out at the last tribal council" and X was a totally unremarkable and predictable boot, but the other tribe looks SHOCKED. Like did you even know the booted player apart from seeing them in a challenge or two?

Somebody here voiced (a very plausible in my opinion) version that in this way the contestants just compete for their jaw-dropped face being on the screen for extra five seconds.

  • It’s dramatic but I mean, does every vote not drastically change the game no matter what?

I don't think that particular Tribal will determine who wins the game so much as who will lose the game

  • New era makes it such a joke. I see the merge and it’s like day 12 💀 that’s when fourth boots were voted out in old school seasons

  • "Time to target my closest ally who I will have no chance beating at FTC!"

  • I believe, that they believe, it's the most important tribal of the whole season. Usually if it's the first tribal where they don't have any easy consensus and sides actually need to be picked. They don't have the full perspective of the game with the other tribes, so they believe this is going to be one of those rare pre-merge tribals that shift the entire trajectory of the whole season.

  • Players sometimes, Jeff has become unbearable if a tribe even just starts last in the second challenge after losing the first, trying to make it seem like every season there is a disaster tribe that is "one of the worst starts to a season in Survivor history", almost fiending at the idea of a tribe getting Ulonged

  • All the time they exaggerate this. But all the time one or two of them are right. None of them have a crystal ball

  • I hate when they say "this is the most important vote yet". OF COURSE THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT VOTE. The point of the whole game is to eliminate someone every vote. As there are fewer and fewer people to vote for each time why wouldn't the next vote coming up be the most important one??? It should be obvious that each subsequent vote is more important than the last
