True, but it doesn’t have to be that black and white(heh) I’m sure there’s a way to pace games reasonably while still giving enough time to older players who struggle to move quickly, i just heard this sad story and hoped there was some way to correct it.
in classical chess the time control is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves plus additional time for each move made, so it doesn’t really rely on reflexes.
Part of OTB Chess is moving the pieces. They're given a lot of leeway to mess up while moving, but this is like saying that races at the Olympics are ableist because they're easier the younger and fitter you are.

The time restrictions seem a little ableist, I’m serious if I’m old and withered it’ll take me long to make my moves, and that seems a little unfair
It seems so until you have to wait 3 minutes in between turns, and the other competitors are waiting for your slow-ass to finish.
