We are excited to announce that we will be hosting an AMA with a currently active player agent working in the Süper Lig. He has been in the business for a long time and is the owner of an agency that deals with domestic and international players, both in the Süper Lig and the lower leagues.
To encourage open and honest participation in this AMA, we have decided to keep it completely anonymous, to avoid self-censorship by the agent. Consequently, the verification we received will not be publicly shared.
How this will work:
- Use this thread to submit your questions.
- Upvote the questions you like, to help us out in the filtering. We will select the most interesting and high-quality questions and send them to the agent.
- In a few days, we will launch the official AMA post where the agent will publish his detailed answers and stick around to reply to follow-ups and new questions live.
The rules for this post and the AMA post:
- NO doxxing: Do not try to guess the agent's identity, ask about specific clients by name, or ask for details that could reveal who they are. These comments will be removed.
- NO transfer rumors: The agent cannot answer specific transfer rumors for obvious reasons. Focus on the processes, not the gossip.
- Check for duplicates: If you see a question you like, upvote it instead of posting it again. You can also make additions to existing questions you like, by replying to those comments.
- Behave: Any trolling or disrespectful behavior will be dealt with harshly.
Feel free to ask your questions in English or Turkish. Use the sticky comment if you have any questions about the AMA itself, such questions posted as regular comments will be removed.
Share any questions about the AMA here.
In your opinion is it true that most SL boards do their transfers based on agent offerings, rather then scouting/planning or is that that exaggerated in Reddit?
Upvote. Not only in Reddit. We see this in news all the time.
"Player X is recommended to club Y"
Isn't this supposed to be other way around? Scouts identify target candidate players and club approach to their agents? Why do we see this kind of news all the time?
How much do you earn per new contract? Lets just say player A transfers to club B as free agent. €5m signing fee + €5m salary for the player. What percent do you get? Do you negotiate this with the club?
Another question: how often süper lig players don‘t receive their salaries?
Step by step; How does a typical transfer REALLY take place?
How did you get into the business? Do you need to know someone in the industry to get started?
What other countries do you operate in?
How do footballers playing in other nations perceive our Anatolian cities, which are said to be boring among footballers? How do Anatolian clubs convince foreign players about the life there?
I remember one player saying they rushed him into Konya at night so he wouldn't see how dead it was during the day lol, just saw the sparkling lights in the dark
Which is a shame, because Konya is a beautiful city. It just so happens to be inhabited by the equally "beautiful" people of Konya.
This was the shit Trabzonspor used to do back in the day lmao.
Bring them to Istanbul and tell them it’s Trabzon then when they sign the contract get them actually to Trabzon and tell them get fucked buddy
This should count as kidnapping lmao
Trabzon isn't that bad though? If you're into hiking it's a nice area. In a country where Sivas and Erzurum bring foreign players Trabzon doesn't need to hide that much lmao.
This used to happen in the 80's/90's when it wasn't that nice.
Also the city just doesn't have the appeal that big cities have, I'm from Trabzon and I get bored out of my ass when I'm there lmao
How different is it to be an agent in TR vs in Europe? Is there a structural difference in how we handle business, finances, relations etc.?
how the league is actually perceived abroad
what could BJK (or any sports club) do in a case like Rafa or Oxlade-Chamberlain? Speaking generally, it looks like clubs are quite vulnerable to player's misconduct, with little/none legal leverage.
What do you think about the practice of Turkish agents contacting foreign players the bigs are interested in and convincing them to increase their salary demands for an extra mediator agent fee? Have you done this? Do club board members take a cut from this?
Do agents benefit from ongoing contracts or they make money only when the player signs a new contract with a new team?
What percentage of Süper Lig transfers would not happen without agent pressure or financial engineering?
How and why agents transfer players to with huge debt teams. How do you convince players
What’s the most shocking difference when dealing with Super Lig clubs and clubs in Europe. If it’s not going to be too revealing, what’s one club in Europe and in Super Lig that’s a delight to work with.
How has the industry changed over time from a player and agent's perspectives especially since the foreign limit was eased over the years? Were the claims about crazy contracts exaggerated or true?
Extra question: How much of a deal is truly reported on KAP, if at all reported? Are there known cases where a lot of the player's earnings weren't really reported through KAP as they were made through different channels?
What do you do to manage the player during the season, any responsibilities ?
What do you need to deal with the team for the players during the season outside of transfer period?
How did people like Fabrizio changed the landscape or had an impact on your job?
1- What is the reason that many Süper Lig transfers seem to happen in the final 24/48 hours of the window? Is it a strategy, or a result of poor planning? How does it influence your work and strategy?
2- Which clubs/boards have you experienced in the industry for being the most professional to negotiate with, and which are the most difficult (without naming names)? You can just tell the period like (2016-2018).
3- When a foreign player moves to Turkey, what is the biggest "culture shock" they face that usually affects their performance? What are their criterias to play in Turkey?
4- (Personal) What does a typical Tuesday look like for a Süper Lig agent when it’s not a transfer window? How are you connected with the sport "journalist" (I think they are far from being a journalist) Let's say like Turkish versions of Fabrizio Romano...
How does your typical day look? How many hours per week? How was your detailed career path?
1-)How do you convince players to work with you? What do you offer? 2-)And how do you decide which player to work with? Are you also scouting?
Whats more important to turkish players in general? Money or Career?
Has the player that you have represented as an agent ever asked for an absurd amount of money per year from their current club to extend their contract, and has the club ever told them off for that?
What's the shadiest you have seen in your industry.
Can you explain the importance of communication? Like what happens when a player is greedy or selfish?
What % of agencies evade tax?
In transfers, do relationships between agents/clubs and people close to the political parties have any impact? If so how?
Transfer süreçlerinde kulüp yöneticilerinin veya menajerlerin siyasi partilere yakın kişilerle ilişkilerinin etkisi oluyor mu? Oluyorsa nasıl?
What actually matters most when Süper Lig clubs evaluate a player: data, live scouting, agent relationships, or timing?
What makes the Süper Lig uniquely difficult for foreign players to adapt to?
