Mat also brought up something interesting when he said right now Suns are ~$300k over the tax. In his words, it makes no sense to just barely be over the tax. So Suns will either cut salary (he mentions they have a few ways to do this) or if they choose to go over at the deadline, they will proudly go over. They’ll go as far over as they can before they hit aprons. Could dictate what kind of players Suns target if they do make a move…
Honestly I feel like it wouldn't be for his benefit long term. He has played under 3 different coaches (hornets, Bud, Ott). He had decent opportunities in each, but he's still not quite good enough. If there's any team or coach where he can improve, I think it's under Ott. If he gets more minutes in other teams, his bad bball habits will just worsen
I think he is an OK backup, just not in Ott's scheme. It's obvious Ott prioritizes the playmaking Oso brings with the second unit, rather than the rebounding Nick brings to the table. Maybe it's because our second unit currently doesn't really have a point guard (Goodwin is more of a combo guard imo) and so the extra playmaking from Oso helps, I don't know. But Nick is a fine backup that gets paid as one.
If Nick Richards never played for another team again I wouldn’t be upset. But at the same time, I also agree and think he’s a better fit elsewhere. He’s not a bad player at an all, and last year he did a hell of a job in a role he’s not suited for, but he’s like a 1 star fit out of 5 in 2K. Great dude, so I’d rather see him flourish with a different team.
Oso has been improving recently so it's harder for Nick to get minutes. Hopefully Mark doesn't get an injury, but in that case Nick is the needed backup until Maluach requires non garbage minutes.
Besides the rebounding, I like the fact that Nick has the confidence offensively. He doesn't hesitate to take those mid range jumpers and try to make a difficult shot only to miss or be blocked.
I really hope we can lock down Goody for the next few seasons, it is almost unbelievable how well he's playing. Obviously his 3 ball has been phenomenal lately, but there's no way a 6'3" guard should ever be one of the best rebounders on the court. Night after night he's right there, snatching boards away from 7 footers. Dude's amazing.
I specifically remember a play yesterday where he was sandwiched between Jaren Jackson Jr and Santi Aldama, and he plucked it from both of them. It’s mind-blowing.
Was telling my wife that if you ever have concerns about the suns energy, goodwin and Dunn just bring It every game. It's a skill. And it wins several games a year.

He’s not coming back next year, so one way or another, he’s gonna have a new coach soon enough.
