  • From what I understand the point of the rank reset is to stop people from just camping ranks. I.E. let's say there is a player who's average skill level is around Emerald II but they manage to winstreak to Diamond IV, and they stop playing. Now they clog up a Diamond IV spot, but they barely play. So you, a regular Diamond IV player, during the middle of the season won't play against this player, you're only playing against other Diamond IV tryhards like yourself or some players who are Diamond II/Diamond I/Masters who went on a loss streak and is spamming games to get back to their rank. So even though you are Diamond IV, you're playing more against like Diamond III or Diamond II on average.
But after the rank reset these Emerald II skill players are forced to come out (probably placed Emerald IV just like you), making these Emerald IV games THEORETICALLY a bit easier than the Diamond IV games from last season. So the rank reset punishes anyone who "got lucky" to their rank but benefits everyone else.
But in reality yeah I wouldn't really play early season because early season is when all the tryhards are spamming games, I haven't really heard about anyone complaining about smurfs in early season but maybe that too. End of season is also rough (tryhards but also people get toxic)

You already decay from diamond and above if you don't play so your example is a poor one.

Right but people play decay games right? The idea is that you aren't playing 5 games a day once you hit that rank anymore, maybe you're only playing like 3 with your duo on weekends

I mean you have to win the game at some point.

I mean yeah I personally know I've inflated my rank in the past playing in a rank I didn't belong in, even with as low as a 40% winrate it still takes a lot of games to derank without a loss streak.

For example this act in Valorant I hit Ascendent, and stopped spamming games as much. I played some games, won a few games in Ascendent, eventually dropped back into Diamond, and then I hit Ascendent again. I wouldn't really say I am equal skill as someone who is consistently spamming games in Ascendent, if I played as much as I did before I probably would have fallen out way faster. There's no decay in Valorant but based off the League rules of decay I wouldn't have decayed because I was still playing like 2 games a day (and easily could have cruised without playing that much).

Same. I got a good streak of games into diamond, then kinda just cruised, playing a session of 2-3 games every couple of weeks. Sometimes when I had no will to play ranked I just decayed the full initial month of days you get, won 2 games, then got another month of time. Legit 1 game per month if you win (which I got lucky and did). Had I spammed games I wouldve dropped for sure, I could see it in my performance.

I don’t understand this because if the emerald player starts playing in diamond the next season, they’ll drop back down quickly if they’re not diamond level.

I finished in silver 4 last season, and after winning my first provisional game got temporarily put back in bronze 4. I went 5-0 in provisionals and got placed in bronze 2.

I’m now back in silver, currently 12-3 which is over an 80% win-rate.

Making me start an entire division below where I finished last season just means I stomped a bunch of games with actual Bronze players, which ruined those games for them.

Well I mean you ... shouldn't be stomping? Because you got placed in Bronze 4 but also all of the other players in Silver 4 should have been placed ~Bronze 4 (depending on MMR, maybe higher like Bronze 2, maybe lower like Iron 2), so you should be playing against the exact same competition...

The reset is to make people grind ranked again so they keep playing. It's pretty straightforward. Riot needs people to keep playing so they keep spending money on the game.

  • You have an entire year to climb to where you were and above.

This is like asking "how am I expected to ran a marathon in a few minutes", you aren't. You are the one who expects this out of yourself.

    fair enough good point

  • i think you should focus less on climbing and more on taking this opportunity to just improve and get better by playing in these lobbies

    thats a good point sir

  • Rank isn’t valued for the sake of it. It’s valued because you are ranked relative to other players. Everyone who ended diamond 4 last season is in the exact same spot as you now. Emerald 4 has all the diamond 4 players, and platinum 4 has all the emerald 4 players. Everything is relative.

yeah no exactly, I guess thats kinda my point like were playing diamond games in emerald so it just feels weird like theoretically if I go win streak to diamond ill be masters MMR

It’s an opportunity to prove yourself.

The problem with this is that assumes that everyone starts grinding at the start of the season.

If diamond player placed back in Emerald starts playing a few months after the season starts, they’ll be versing actual Emerald players, which ruins game integrity.

  • you’ll get considerably more lp when you when vs when you lose if you were diamond and placed low emerald. your lp gains and losses will even out eventually when you climb higher

  • It's the best moment to learn for diamond and lower players, and the easiest time for us to play (master +). You are obsessing about ranked too much anyway, the fucking game just started the season yesterday, i usually take 2 months to try out rankeds and chill, as the decay system is tiredsome higher.

  • for years now - I play league of legends - just like snakes and ladders - but there's more snakes than ladders

  • With good mmr. I get 3x more from wins than losses

  • The goal isn’t to climb a ladder it’s to replace someone else’s spot. I get it. Playing vs smurfs can feel bad. But it’s dynamic enough you’re getting the smurfs on your team as well.

So how is playing with higher mmr smurfs a bad thing? You get to learn more and your rating will increase. If it’s too hard I recommend another account. Maybe you just got lucky last season getting walked/carried and you’re actually iron?

    D4 is actually iron 🤓

Damn im wood then with my enerald1

not really luck, I got there positive wr, its just probably the upper level of what I can climb to. I got to d2 peak. so aka the games are getting difficult so now its like I. playing at that level or HIGHER but my rank says emerald 4 now 😂 kinda sucks but it is what it is
