So I have had a debate with a friend whom is a jungle trundle main who always go deadmans plate second, where we discuss about it being a bad item on trundle. But in my opinion it just feels like such a bad item because of the fact expensive build path, and the passive doesn’t really add much extra to trundle gameplay compared to what W, E and red smite already brings.

I can obviously see it’s a popular item on u.gg but not going Tiamat, botrk, spirit visage, or deaths dance which either covers Trundles weaknesses or boost his already strong sides which is duels and objective taking

I can see that top jungle trundle players don’t really go the item

I am ready to learn so convince me it’s a good item on trundle

So not being around the map quicker or clearing objectives fast seems like a huge drawback?

  • Deadmans is kinda overrated on Trundle tbh, you're right about the expensive build path and the passive being meh when you already have pillar and W for sticking power. Most high elo Trundle players skip it for exactly the reasons you mentioned - better to go Tiamat into BORK or straight tank items that actually synergize with his kit

  • Trundle jungle wants to do different things than trundle top. Tiamat bork doesn’t really fit with what he wants to do as much. You go triforce for the duels, and deadman’s for the movement speed and burst. Tiamat bork fills his top lane weaknesses and dueling, but you don’t need tiamat in the jungle and triforce is better for the types of fights you get into as jungle trundle.

    Bork isn’t a bad 2nd or 3rd item for jungle trundle if the enemy team comp is stacking tons of hp though.

    I posted the clear timers for the different items as well and camp wise it is consistently +10 seconds behind. Isn't it a huge drawback not being able to clear objectives and camps faster? If you went for an example Rammus or Maokai jungle where I could see DMP being decent because you get decent AOE clear so extra damage items wouldn't be important - unlike on Trundle whom also acts like a bruiser and lacks clear.

  • One thing almost no one talks about for Deadman's Plate is that it's actually a damage item, it's barely a tank item (in terms of tank stats it's very inefficient, 70% gold efficient). The 20 MS and the slow resist is good but the underrated part is the mini sheen effect.

    Sheen if used perfectly deals 100% base AD (or 200% for Trinity) every 1.5s.

    Deadman's Plate every 1.5s generates 42 momentum stacks, dealing 16 + 40% base AD, and that doesn't require you to use a spell or time it correctly or anything. At max stacks (like they flash away and you're chasing them) you're dealing 40 + 100% base AD.

    For a champion with high base AD (Trundle has one of the highest base ADs at all points in the game) it's going to deal a lot of damage.


    BoRK is kind of trash on jungle Trundle. It's good on top lane Trundle when you're just trying to splitpush and duel people but jungle Trundle you're playing for his strong early dueling and he turns into more of a utility champion mid-late (junglers in general have less gold and also shouldn't really be splitpushing). A full squishy item like BoRK is going to make you very squishy in teamfights.

    Death's Dance is okay but not great in my eyes. It's great on champions like Riven, squisier bruiser champions that are really susceptible to burst. Whereas Trundle, if they're focusing you that's kind of a good thing. So you just build regular tank items.

    Spirit Visage is just a tank item. I mean sure, you can get it if you don't need armor. I also think Spirit is kind of overrated because while you do heal from your R, that's it, Rookern gives you a 15% max HP heal. You have to heal 60% of your max HP for the healing from SV > the shield from Rookern. Which is possible if you have a Soraka on your team but without any enchanters it's pretty hard to get good value out of it. Rookern gives 30 more MR but 200g more and no ability haste

    I think Sundered Sky is also an item that synergizes well with Trundle that people aren't picking up. It's an item that benefits really tanky champions because you just perma sustain with it and gives you burst to threaten squishies. Could go that second if you don't like Deadman's or Spirit or Rookern.

    That is an interesting answer. I hear it and get it. Although a counter argument would be that as a jungler there is also a PvE aspect to it in clear speed. So I went ahead and tried it.

    So wouldn't it be reasonable to say that Dead mans plate is only good the first second of a gank? Similar to why it is such a good item on Bard. Stats really don't do much for the clear. Stacking the movement even when kiting the camp I could only manage to stack it to around 10-20 stacks per hit, only getting the passive between camps.

    At second item are you really worried about clear speed on jungle? I feel like on a tank jungler your econ shouldnt be your main issue + also at a certain point you want to give some of your camps to your laners. But yeah Deadman's is going to deal less damage than real damage items like BoRK, BoRK is basically the most pure damage item you can get on Trundle.

    Also not that it really matters for my argument but what level are you doing these clear speeds at?

    Bit out of the loop(havent played much within the last few months), but isn't it still tiamat->trinity?
