We had just won a teamfight mid and I called for baron straight after as it was a 5v3. But mid and top decided to push lanes instead and I got flamed for a bad call. Just wondering if I made the wrong decision here. Silver elo BTW.

Edit - Malz and Pike showed up at the end and I died. They got Baron a minute later.

  • one advice in league that helped me a lot. In an ideal world...its a free nashor. I agree with your initial call.

But you do not play a fantasy. You play the actual game. if your mates dont respond in the correct way...you just leave it and do the next best thing on the map.

The fantasy game people play leads the to contest drakes while being outnumbered etc... play the game you are in

"A bad plan executed well is better than a good plan executed poorly" - Coach Curtis

Preeeetty much. It can be the "right call" but if the team isn't following it instantly becomes the wrong call. Flame em, move on, do whatever you're going to but realize as fast as you can that you really need everyone on board or things aren't going to bode well.

  • the moment u see that its just u and caitlyn (1hp) hitting baron, jus leave it

Yeah I should've just left instead of waiting for my team to rock up.

  • Generally making a bad call with your team is usually better than making a good call without.

While true its also good to break the cycle of int as azzap puts it.

Sometimes if you team ints super hard you need to not follow them and try to do your best to manage it.

The difficulty is figuring out when to apply each lesson

Int mean that you intentionally play bad... not simply are bad, and that is another case entirely.

Yeh so like if your teammate pings to go fight a bad fight ifnyou know its bad its technically inting.

  • It was a bad call. Pause the video and assess the situation when you did your very first assist ping. Lux is dealing with Malz in mid, your Cait is trying to back because a sneeze would kill her and she probably has gold to spend, the enemy has 2 alive and a Pyke respawning who is fast and can execute low HP enemies (which is most of your team after taking on the Baron, even if you somehow miraculously killed it). You also have a sweeper and didn't even use it to check vision, they could have known you were there the entire time which makes the call even worse. This would have turned bad even if the rest of your team listened to you immediately. If they listened to you after a few seconds of hesitation, which is a more likely outcome, than it would have been even worse. And in this case, they didn't listen to you at all and you still tried to force it, which is a much bigger mistake than the original call itself.

If your team doesn't come in this situation, you need to back off, even if the situation was different and the original call wasn't bad. It's so obvious that you, Cait, and Leona can't take it by yourselves at this point in the game, you can see that after a few seconds of hitting it. Really bad mistake on your part to continue pinging people instead of accepting reality and backing away. It's alright to make mistakes though as long as you learn from them - if you can learn from this situation and not force Baron like that in the future, that will prevent a lot of future losses.

That makes sense, no point forcing essentially a coinflip even if they showed up

Exactly, y'all had just gotten in a few fights and came away with some kills, would have been a much more guaranteed good play to just push out the lanes and back to spend your gold. If their support was like a Soraka or something instead of a Pyke then the play would have made more sense, but I really don't like the idea of you all getting really low HP from baron with a Pyke on the way

Your second paragraph is for sure right, but I disagree the call was bad. Eve is on the other side of the map. If everyone (including lux) rotates, you either get a baron, or a 5v2 off a fake baron attempt, its a positive extension of the play either way, and if done correctly can essentially give a tempo lead that would be more or less insurmountable. At minimum they needed to rotate into the darkness of the jungle in front of baron.

The moment no one else rotates and Jax walks to take a turret (also a fine outcome for the fight, tbh), starting baron becomes a terrible play. And obviously not sweeping is bad.

it's an objectively bad call. You have dragon spawning in 1:44 with 2-3 low health teammates and a pyke respawning. Baron kill will take a minute of the dragon respawn, now you recall and have to retake vision control of an objective vs. an eve and pyke. Your top laner wants to shove his wave before objective and recall + buy and setup picks for the next objective, not flip an objective and then have no control over the next.

I can definitely see your argument.

First of all, I totally missed the Eve on the other side of the map, so my bad on that part of it.

Second though, maybe I'm overestimating Pyke but looking at their health I feel like Warwick was maybe in ult range and Caitlyn was a sneeze away from death. Leona probably wasn't but could have been after some Malzahar damage. So idk, it was still way too risky of a call in my opinion when going and pushing lanes and backing after a couple kills would have been a much safer option

    >So idk, it was still way too risky of a call in my opinion when going and pushing lanes and backing after a couple kills would have been a much safer option

I think this is defendable too, to be clear. Would really need to see more of the game to get a good sense on if the risk is worth it, and probably a little dependent on how you play too.

  • Doesn't look like you have enough damage to take it, but even if you did, when your team doesn't show up, you don't force it.

  • Even if everyone comes to help, enemy team can group on yours and contest it before you'd be close to killing it. Cait is too low to hit it and will die if anyone walks up to her (really easy for Eve to do). Your waves are also not great (getting Baron when all of your waves are pushing towards you is going to waste a lot of Baron time). You have no vision control (they did know you were doing it since Leona dropped a control ward when you didn't use sweeper). There's so many factors to why this is not ideal and your team is not ahead enough in general/with the resources they currently have to be able to make this a good call.

  • Bad call, yeah. Cait has no health and you are zdps w/o her. Even if you hoped Jax would've come, you should've stopped hitting the baron the moment you saw him walking away, it was not happening.

Recall for the item, clear your camps, prepare for the drake.
