I chose Gecko because I want to be out of the Google Invisible hand.

  • Maybe Firefox tweaked for performance, uBlock Origin, and multi-account containers.

    Came here to say this.

I'm thinking of that, any good preset config or fork?

What I followed for now, from a deleted Reddit account:

Disable Efficiency Mode on Windows 11:

    https://github.com/yokoffing/Betterfox/issues/310

    Use Betterfox:

    https://github.com/yokoffing/Betterfox

Enable page prefetching/preloading to make Firefox follow Chrome in terms of speed:

    https://old.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/18tfw3w/again_some_tips_for_accelerating_firefox_using/

I'm not sure if I was able to do this:

Go to Graphic Settings and set Firefox to High Performance to force Firefox to use dGPU

Sorry for the wait, but I tested Betterfox and I think I'll stick to it now. It's all I really wanted an overall good Gecko Browser.

Why are you being down voted?

I guess its because I said brave is shady??? It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

  • In my experience Brave is better at blocking trackers than any Gecko setup unless someone can prove me wrong

This is based on coveryourtracks.org, day to day use is the same

The Mullvad browser will at least give a "non-unique fingerprint" result, but I think the bigger problem is technology like

    https://fingerprint.com/demo/

which I think can't be countered by Brave or Mullvad.

We discussed this in another thread, and I noted that only CanvasBlocker with max. settings and Chameleon with randomized profiles and almost all settings enabled can counter it. And even with that, CPU usage may go up and some sites may break, e.g., the Cloudflare warning will show up and loop. The only way to stop that is to exclude the site in Chameleon.

Finally, for now, the Pola Browser developer told me that he has been able to counter it. However, I can't check it out because the browser's for the Mac.

With that, I'm using Firefox with multi-account containers, where sites can continue tracking but can only do so using sites in the same container.

My experience too; ~What makes ‘Brave: Shady’!??

Nice feature? So brave users can use their own code to view webpage, not relying on browser extension.

For people who do not trust browser addon and extension, it is a worthy feature.

Thank you for This!! I GUESS tho; I feel like as I DESIRE being a part of a Capitalist Society, as it IS My Desire to MAKE Money, and Purchase ‘Things’!

The Trade-Off, then; is that as a means to finding acceptance, ~NOT ‘Always’ following ‘The Rules’!!

  • Use AdGuard and a secure dns. Use any browser you want

It's not that simple, adguard and secure DNS, will not help with fingerprinting, some trackers and etc.

Fingerprinting is blown out of all proportion. As said, I even have Chrome showing that it doesn’t have a unique fingerprint on EFF and a few other test sites (not that in reality it matters as I am not being tracked by an enemy state and I don’t think they care what I search for).

  • Waterfox with added extensions is pretty solid in terms of privacy

  • I just started using helium browser and I cant find too much about it I don't like. It's based on chromium but is all de-googled and has Ublock origin built into it, although I disable it and install ublock lite...

In task manager, with one or many tabs openn, helium seemed to use less resources than edge, which has always been the lowest in most of the tests I've seen (aside from those featherweight ones that are almost novelty, like lynx or kmeleon.) It comes with ublock preinstalled but I disabled it and go ublock lite instead/

I also think brave is shady for a variety of reasons so I get where you're coming from. But from what I understand, helium is totally de-googled. The default search is set to duck duck go...

There's also a semi fullscreen mode, similar to librewolf, so you can have a LOT of horizontal space- more on that later...One thing I really like is it has an adaptive theme to adhere with your windows colors, which I really like to have with the wallpaper slideshow. Keeps things looking fresh. That's one of the reasons I decided to stop using edge for a bit.

So unfortunately as I'm writing this there is not support for vertical tabs but a recent tweet from the main dev indicated it would be coming very soon.

I use web apps for things like reddit, YT, YT music, amazon etc and they install fine here but I can't find a way to pin them to start, only the taskbar.

The past few months I've tried a LOT of browsers and helium loads everything faster and more consistently in my subjective experience.

It also has an android app which I think librewolf is lacking.

*i forgot to mention on the toolbar there's a tab search button (or ctrl-shit-a) with lists all the tabs vertically with recently closed tabs as well. Also, when you hover the mouse over a tab, it shows a preview and how much ram it's using. ok thats all

Helium looks like a good alternative but I think its too premature now. I also found that they connect to various links on the startup (brave also do this) and it is chromium.

If you are transitioning from edge or chrome any privacy focused chromium browser should be the better. But I don't like using chromium based browser that much, I only use brave on my phone because Gecko simply is too slow.

Gecko engine will never be as fast as Blink engine, but it's the only alternative that's getting updates by today. Disregarding LadyBird that's still getting developed. My issue with Blink engine is the Manifest V2 mainly. But all aside that. Why you disabled uBlock Origin and change it to uBlock lite????

By the way, if you want to pin something to the start menu, you could do 1 of 2 things: go to the location of the file for it, and when you right click on it in file explorer, it'll say "pin to start", or you could go in the start menu, open file location of something pinned, go to the location for the start menu itself, and make a shortcut for an application in the start menu

    I use ZorinOS :P

  • Chromium

As I said in the post, I don't want any relation with Google products, Google has a heavy influence on the Chromium project. OBS: its not a good influence

  • I’m not sure what OS you’re using but the best browser that I’ve seen as far as privacy goes is SnowHaze for iOS. It’s by far the most aggressive tracker blocker without any add-ons. It lets you change user agents, it also allows you to block fonts in addition to scripts. And its paid tier allows you to access Tor through its regular browser.

I use ZorinOS, a total opposite of iOS, but I'll keep an eye on it.

  • LibreWolf isn't slower than Firefox, and it doesn't break sites at all if you configure it correctly.

That's the hard part :| I already use Linux that have to do minor fixes all the time, I just want a browser that does only need to config once, to make all sites don't break at all, I have to disable to many things that is better use normal firefox.

(I'm also on Linux) That's what I'm saying, personally I configured LibreWolf once and never touched again, it just works, sites don't break.

I want just a default browser. Like It used to be with Chrome. I prefer a browser that is not tweaked by me, like a omakase, leave it to the chef to choose.

  • After messing around endlessly with various browsers, I've settled on Firefox w/ uBlock Origin. Chromium/Blink needs competition and it's not a noticeable difference (in my experience) in speed or reliability.

  • If Librewolf break website often, i think (i'm not sure) but it's caused with WebGL (and some websites who dont want Librewolf). If you don't find any solution, try enabling WebGL in Librewolf and see if it is still broken ? Also, what are the site broken? I want to try to fix them on my Normal Firefox + Librewolf

I already did that. Buuuut... How I have to make a privacy browser less secure just to use it. That's why I switched to BetterFox. Convenience.

  • Use any firefox based browser and you will get a unique fingerprint and you just can't help it. Brave can help you with that.

  • Look into both helium and floorp. These are what brave should have been. I have a script to turn my Vivaldi into a brave level secure browser. It can be done on your own if you're willing to give it a go.

I tried floorp, but I simply do not customize it, so it's useless for me. The user.js of floorp is just a BetterFox tweaked.

  • I wish Duck Duck Go Browser would come to Linux.

    With extensions

  • You dont need any privacy features beside the browser not actively stealing your information, everything else can be done with extensions.

I recommend Floorp which works very well. It's Firefox based but without any telemitry or similar things. It's also more customizable and I see it as faster as Firefox.

  • Brave is not shady at all

  • Checkout Zen and Helium. Zen for your case, Helium is chromium
