I’ve always found oil rigs so unsettling to look at. Huge man made structures out in the middle of nowhere. Something so unnatural in a natural environment always makes me feel weird.
You won't believe this, but the picture of the oil rig you posted, Sleipner A, is where I work. I am actually currently sat at my desk in my office on the 8th floor here 🤣🤣🤣 its definitely not as creepy or scary as it seems from afar.
I would not want to swim below it though... there is a reason I am in this sub. Luckily, I am not a diver. My job very much keeps me dry here.😅
No way! What a coincidence! How is it working on a rig? Do you enjoy it? I think it would be so unnerving to look out across such vast nothingness in the middle of the ocean.
Lots of fish life hang around and on the rigs. An oasis in the middle of the desert for sea life. Also helps if the crew is dump leftover meat into the water.
Check out the Redsand or Maunsell Forts! They’re my ultimate nightmare. I hate even the thought of being on a boat looking up at them. They just look so unnatural.
This is the thing that triggers my phobia the most by far, that and the underside of really big boats, especially if it's in docks for some reason, for example this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWuPp1v-sI8&t=313s It creeps me the fuck out and the drop is very unsettling, but damn is it fascinating to look at.
If it wasn't for this i would've considered working in a oil rig, i heard the pay is really good
My heart ever understands how they just stand like that in these unforgiving waters, not tilting or breaking. My brain knows better, but my heart is not willing to accept these work.
They’re highly regulated, owned by private companies and I think you have to have certification to work on them. I doubt they would allow a punter on for a quick nosey.
Normally, I’d say “absolutely”. But those shots where the water is such a beautiful crystal blue and you can see so far are kinda amazingly beautiful.

I assume it makes noise as well; creaking underwater.
Oh hey, thanks for a new fresh hell for my thoughts to journey to!
Sharks love chilling around these too

I just followed this sub so I can find beautiful pictures like these. Thank you for sharing.
Nooooooooo! God no!!!
You gotta have giant metaphorical balls to work on those
Agreed!
ships and other things I'm fine with, but I don't like legs
Legs descending into the dark abyss and actually TOUCHING the creepy sea floor somewhere far far below anything you can see is just WRONG.
I have never read someone else explain this before. 100% yes!

That's an understatement
Its always weird doing UWILD inspections. Right up on the water intake ratings is creepy.
This is simultaneously beautiful and terrifying. Respect to the folks who can do that as their day job - sometimes a desk job is just fine.
my brain cannot even fathom how they even set these things up
The dismantling is almost more impressive - https://www.rmg.co.uk/stories/ocean/end-oil-rigs-life
pic 3 is absolutely cool, i'd love to have a bondage session there!
Elaborate 🧐
Reminds of the movie Abyss
the worst

Finn McMissile theme starts
on my bucket list
"Welcome aboard captain, All systems online."
I should play MW2 again
No way, man.
So dreamy __^
I’d recommend watching some clips/playing Still Wakes the Deep. It’s about the average experience you get on an oil rig!
FInished the game Still wakes the Deep last night... oil rig nightmare fuel all the way through.
4th pic is a huge nope from me
I plan on being an underwater welder, so I am gonna see a lot of these
Here’s a question: can a non oil-rig individual visit an oil rig? Always wanted to walk around in one
