Pakistan demonstrating once again it cannot be trusted. Pak reneging on the ceasefire agreement when its DGMO called India’s DGMO for a ceasefire agreement.
Was it the U.S. or the Iranians and Chinese who would obviously be better at working with both sides? Trump would obviously take credit. It’s the American way to steal credit from others because my countrymen don’t read.

Are they? Pakistan is China are closer, and Pakistan relies upon Chinese funding. But China would also like to make India closer to them, look at Brics. But the more India and Pakistan fight, the less China can try to play nice with India if it's funding their enemy.

Its usually to get ahead of others, and will be done with events like this because there is so much going on.
Their fact checkers and journalists are probably running down better and more relevant leads instead. Hacking a website is low priority for fact checking because the resources are tied up, and it doesnt really matter if they get it wrong.

The tricky thing is what was included in that deescalation "request". I wouldn't be surprised if there were some sort of poison pill, because things getting hot here are so obviously relevant to US interests in the region.
It's pretty clear that we're not seeing an offramp from this one, and this will turn into a US-China proxy war over Chinese access to Karachi via Belt and Road.
While ostensibly about Jammu and Kashmir, the real point of contention is Gilgit-Baltistan and the Karakoram Highway. Establishing Indian control, or at least keeping the zone in active conflict, will prevent China from being able to avoid the Malacca Strait in its trade to Africa and the West. This is a clear US priority - its entire Asia strategy is containing China's sea access within US proxies.
Diplomatically, the hope is to drive a wedge between China and India as BRICS partners, but my suspicion is that China won't weigh in on the issue beyond asserting its existing border claims and supplying Pakistan. Meanwhile, Russia will stay out of this one entirely.
Yes, this is a complex one for China. They've supplied Pakistan with military means and have been working assiduously on Belt and Road through Pakistan, which was a major part of the original Silk Roads. If Afghanistan and Pakistan become land-trade routes to Europe and Africa for China, India's upward growth may be impacted because they can be completely bypassed for incoming agricultural and other raw materials entering by land and sea from Africa and West Asia. Right now, India does a lot of agricultural processing of raw plants for export due to their large coast line and geographic figure that makes the journey longer to get to places in Eastern Asia.
I don't think this is a proximate or even secondary cause for this war, but it could become more important if things escalate and great powers get involved.
Local issues are always the proximate cause for the war, but it wouldn't be popping off if the broader geopolitical considerations weren't immediately salient. China's financing a four-lane expansion to the Karakoram Highway, likely with the intention of engineering a rail line in concurrence. That's absolutely a geopolitical red line for the US in Trump's "pivot to Asia", since that bypass would obviate every alliance/vassalage the US has in East and Southeast Asia. What's the point of the US having a Taiwan policy, if Taiwan no longer serves a purpose?
This is such a dangerous situation because the stakes are so high, and the specific actors have such heavy local grievances, the politics so complex (which side would the Punjabi Sikhs go with?), the alliances so jumbled (Pakistan historically sided reliably with the West, but China will make it much richer), and both sides have an excess young male population in the tens to hundreds of millions.
Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif says his government is speaking daily to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and China over efforts to de-escalate the ongoing crisis with India.
Of course, given the nature of modern day dog fights, this combat occurred in beyond visual range conditions with the Indian and Pakistani aircraft (and all claimed losses) remaining in their own airspace.

The current military regime in Pakistan was already installed by the Biden administration via a "soft coup" in 2022 - but even then the regime has clearly chosen China over the West if we're going by this current conflict. Rubio called Islamabad today asking them to deescalate and they basically told him to fuck off. They're not going to deescalate. I wonder if seeing these Chinese jets in action made the Pakistanis think they don't need us and our F-16s anymore, they're certainly a lot more confident this time than they were in 2019.
Regime change in Pakistan? The natural choice for India would be the Sharifs, who have historically sought amicable relations, but at the present time they are already in power and backed by the military. I’m not sure they’ve thought it through to this extent lol.

It's pretty clear that we're not seeing an offramp from this one, and this will turn into a US-China proxy war over Chinese access to Karachi via Belt and Road.
While ostensibly about Jammu and Kashmir, the real point of contention is Gilgit-Baltistan and the Karakoram Highway. Establishing Indian control, or at least keeping the zone in active conflict, will prevent China from being able to avoid the Malacca Strait in its trade to Africa and the West. This is a clear US priority - its entire Asia strategy is containing China's sea access within US proxies.
Diplomatically, the hope is to drive a wedge between China and India as BRICS partners, but my suspicion is that China won't weigh in on the issue beyond asserting its existing border claims and supplying Pakistan. Meanwhile, Russia will stay out of this one entirely.
Yes, this is a complex one for China. They've supplied Pakistan with military means and have been working assiduously on Belt and Road through Pakistan, which was a major part of the original Silk Roads. If Afghanistan and Pakistan become land-trade routes to Europe and Africa for China, India's upward growth may be impacted because they can be completely bypassed for incoming agricultural and other raw materials entering by land and sea from Africa and West Asia. Right now, India does a lot of agricultural processing of raw plants for export due to their large coast line and geographic figure that makes the journey longer to get to places in Eastern Asia.
I don't think this is a proximate or even secondary cause for this war, but it could become more important if things escalate and great powers get involved.
Local issues are always the proximate cause for the war, but it wouldn't be popping off if the broader geopolitical considerations weren't immediately salient. China's financing a four-lane expansion to the Karakoram Highway, likely with the intention of engineering a rail line in concurrence. That's absolutely a geopolitical red line for the US in Trump's "pivot to Asia", since that bypass would obviate every alliance/vassalage the US has in East and Southeast Asia. What's the point of the US having a Taiwan policy, if Taiwan no longer serves a purpose?
This is such a dangerous situation because the stakes are so high, and the specific actors have such heavy local grievances, the politics so complex (which side would the Punjabi Sikhs go with?), the alliances so jumbled (Pakistan historically sided reliably with the West, but China will make it much richer), and both sides have an excess young male population in the tens to hundreds of millions.
