First time I got this I was grumpy and had a “wtf am I supposed to do with this” attitude. (Food truck lunch break from my work truck). One of my all time favorites now, and that food truck was hands down the best I’ve had to date..
Wish I could find that same truck, never seen it in the area since then..
What’s molida? Is it like a light molé kind of thing? Because that sounds incredible. Best molé I ever had was given to me by a kind coworker at a bakery in Tucson, his abuela was nothing short of a witch/wizard (and I mean that in all the best ways!).
Oh, it just means ground, as in ground beef. Moler is to grind. That's probably why mole (the food) is called as such, since the ingredients would be all crushed and smushed together.
Yes, vegans love them because they get a little of the meat they need. I learned about the meat in the Jack tacos in an angry blog from a vegan who ate them for years lol.
I worked at a restaurant that used oatmeal as a filler in taco meat. When the Feds found out it was 30% beef they were forced to add more meat to the ground beef to continue labeling it as beef.
Jack can’t legally say it’s beef
The amino acid chains in non meat foods like peanuts, beans and rice are incomplete proteins. Getting a tiny amount of meat makes them complete.
Supposedly brown rice and black beans combined are a way to combine amino acid structures for a complex protein but there’s probably some inhibitor that makes it difficult to process a lot as a complete protein. Regardless they would need to be in your stomach at the same time.
It’s a lot easier just to eat a pebble of beef or dairy fat with the non animal proteins.
Quesadillas de carne molida (ground beef quesadillas). If the beef is flavored in tomatoes, and cooked with carrots and potatoes, then quesadillas de picadillo. By grandma used to make what’s in this picture, but between two whole round tortillas, and called them gorditas, but actual Gordita’s are like sopes that are sliced open.
In Tucson we used to fry the taco shells. Then we’d fill them with meat including preferred seasoning, chopped onions, and cheese on a baking sheet. Then we’d broil them in the oven covered with waxed paper until they looked right. Take out and place on a paper lined plate to absorb the extra grease. Then you could add sliced lettuce, chopped tomatoes and hot sauce according to preferences. They were the best ever.
My Mexican wife makes these sometimes! She rolls her eyes if I call them tacos, so I usually refer to them as "those fried taco things." I'm sorry, I don't know the actual name for them, I just know my wife insists that they aren't tacos.
Whenever we have an abundance of ground beef and/or Mexican cheese (her dad brings us enormous, 5 lb. blocks after every trip), she'll get a big bag of little tortillas, make little tacos with the meat and cheese, and fry them in a skillet with a little vegetable oil. And she'll make like 30 at a time, so I have plenty to take with me to work for lunch for like a week.
It depends. Some people call them Flautas, others call them tacos Dorados.
My mom used to make ground beef cooked with onions, tomatoes, and potatoes. After fill these tacos and pan fry them. It was a staple in our home, and an easy way to make a cheap meal for a family of 5.
To me, it just looks like deep fried quesadillas.
Take a tortilla add cheese, a little bit of pork or chicken.
Fold it in half and then plunge in deep fryer for 3 to 5 minutes. Think of it like deep fried tacos, like some local mexican or southern restaurants have.
Lol it's exactly what it is. It's not a fancy dish, no need for a fancy name. People calling it quesabirria make me wanna open a restaurant. If this is quesabirria holy damn that's like selling chuck steak for the price of prime ribeye.
Might be quesabirria. And if it is, enjoy
Hopefully with consomé

If you know the name, they probably have a social
They might have gotten a restaurant, my local food truck ended up moving into a brick and mortar.
If it's that good, someone in that area would know.
Start asking people that work in that area.
Yeah that’s exactly what it looks like.
Mine are usually red.
Yeah, more a tacos de canasta than a birria imo
Edit: autocorrect changed birria to burrito...
Same and have a bit of Cilantro on it... And way more cheese.
Definitely not a stupid food!
Aye looks like it. But where’s all that gorgeous cooking sauce mmmmmm
Traditional birria is made w goat.
That looks like ground beef, though,
Deep fried tacos. Heaven.
It looks like shredded "Mexican" blend cheese and ground beef, likely seasoned with McCormick's taco seasoning.
This is the tex-mex version of quesabirria.
You got all that from that one picture???
Yeah, I've pretty much ate that type of food my entire life. If not that's exactly, it's something extremely similar.
I'd even go as far as to say the beef is made using some form of the taco seasoning pack we have in the US.
I want, like, 10
[removed]
No but I would like
Tacos dorados con carne molida y queso. Not birria. Birria is shredded, red colored, saucy, and served with consomé.
You’re correct. Some of these comments make me 🤦🏽♂️
The quesabirria in my area look exactly like these.
I was gonna say the same. All the food trucks birria look like this. Sit down restaurants seem to do it right though.
I may be wrong, then! Still looks tasty
Birria is the meat. Could be served different ways

Heartburn Taco?
Yeah these are the greasiest I’ve seen in a while. Smash
They look like the tacos from Jack in the box
🤷🏻♀️🤣
Came here to say this hah
I ate so many at two for a dollar.
It’s the funniest thing, vegans were eating them because were only like 30% meat and Jack couldn’t legally sell the filling as ground beef.

This your first time encountering a taco? (Don't be alarmed they are friendly)
Very friendly. ❤️
Never had a taco bite me before. It's usually the opposite.
I suppose if they're very, very spicy, they might bite back.
Hopefully not on the way out though lol

If the meat isn’t birria I would just call them tacos dorados.
Sweaty Melts
Never fix your mouth to say that phrase again 👺👉🏾 (🤣)
Homemade tacos often look like that if you use actual corn tortillas and not hard shell. They also taste way better than hard shell,
They look like tacos de canasta to me.
This reminds me of an empanada but the edges are not pressed.. although when I made my first ones without supervision the ends were not pressed
