Hello everyone. I have $60 left and need to figure out some cheap meals to make it until the end of the week. $60 to feed 2 people all week….. what simple cheap meals could you guys offer me. Anything is very appreciated.

  • What's your PayPal, mate? DM and I'll give you some cash.

If that is a real offer, you sir (or ms) just put the biggest damned smile on my face!(and boy did I need it today) I hope the world does you kind you deserve it! Cheers!

Yeah, I'm just waiting on their response. I got some extra cash from Christmas, so it feels right to spread some love to those who might need a little something if they accept.

    Cheers my friend.

Damn big ups boss man!! You the real mvp.

I try when possible. The world is cold enough. I'm trying to be a better man to those around me.

Did they send you the info? I'd probably throw some in to if I can figure out how. Edit: I have Venmo to if that works.

We got it all sorted, sorry guys for forgetting, lol. PayPal was being cunty for a sec.

And you will continue to be blessed.

    Found the alt account

Or it’s just someone who is reasonably saying that if that person is legit it made them really happy. I’m not sure why someone saying a random act of kindness from a stranger to another is indicative of an alt account lol.

    And another one!

You have a bizarre way of looking at things lmao.

We have very different meanings of ‘bizarre’

Okay, enlighten me as to why someone essentially saying “if you’re telling the truth that’s really nice of you” makes you think it’s someone’s alt lol. That’s silly, there’s no reason to waste time doing that when that is obviously what 99% of people would respond with.

My life is busy enough just having 1 account. You're an odd one, and I mean that in a distasteful way.

Sorry mate, meant to reply to the asshole. Cheers

No worries, it's only reddit, friend, lol.

What do they do next week when there's more days than food again?

Some of us have to pay rent and that can be a tough time

Should probably pay an English tutor too.

  • Buy a lot of dried beans, rice & onion (spices and tomato paste/tinned tomatoes). Add some instant ramen and eggs for variety.

Get creative with what you already have in your pantry.

Came here to say this. Rice, beans, and eggs got me through college. And having spices makes such a difference.

  • Carton of eggs, bread, cans of tuna, cereal, Noodle cups.

  • 2 lb Bag of pintos 2 bucks Ham shank with bones about 3-4 bucks worth. 3 boxes of jif cornbread mix. With butter milk and seasoning you can make about 12-15 portions of pinto beans and corn bread that has a ton of protein minerals carbs and flavor to warm up anyone. It’s also easy to store. You can add to rice as well

If there's a walmart superstore nearby, smoked pork neck bones are a lot cheaper and have just as much flavor.

My Walmart definitely doesn’t have that. Only hocks. Just checked and the local Kroger does, not smoked though. Ymmv

  • Find the cheap rotisserie chicken option, buy an onion/lettuce/cheese/bell pepper and a dressing. Combine everything but the lettuce and you’ll have an easy meal for 3 days that you can prep hot or cold.

  • dollar tree pasta. $15 could easily last you more than a week

  • Sauce and pasta, kielbasa and rice, hot dogs and Mac and cheese.

  • Lentils, crushed tomatoes, celery, onion and carrot. Add a small macaroni to stretch it even further. I can get 2 meals and then free,e some without the macaroni for yet another meal.

  • Some sausage, meat rice and cabbage can make a really good soup. Stir fry then add enough water, bring to boil then simmer for 40 minutes on low heat

  • It's rice and beans usually. You can also probably afford chicken and eggs. Shop at Aldi.

  • One time when I was broke, I made some hot water cornbread. All you need is cornmeal, hot water, and a bit of cooking oil.

  • Ramen or Mac & cheese, loaf of bread for PBJ.

  • You should go to Walmart and buy the 16oz cans of black beans. Crack the lid drain the beans, if they haven’t been vandalized with oil the juice is good to pour in a cup and drink. Then pour the beans over 2 or 3 flour tortillas, I like the La Banderita or Guerrero brand 20 packs of tortillas, to make two or three bean tacos. Then pour some hot sauce on them, I like Tapatio(spicy) and Bontanera (mild) or try Valentina.

  • Buy a small bag of rice. I prefer Asian long grain white rice. And a pack of hot dogs.

Have you seen the price of good hot dogs? Crazy expensive.

Hotdogs cost more than a chicken, rn. Why I haven’t had them in months.

  • Bag of rice, bag of dry beans, 1 onion, can of generic rotel style tomatoes, garlic, salt. Cook a pot of rice & a pot of beans. Depending on diet/price add a link of kielbasa to the shopping list.

  • Eggs and veggies!

  • Beans and pork.

Smoked pork neck bones + some beans. Maybe a little spices if there are enough funds but salt and pepper also work. Its cheap.

  • I’d say small salads, hamburger helpers, tuna, beans, and like sandwiches. Times are tough but I hope you guys make it through the week

  • $60 is about £44.43 here, your food must be really expensive 😖 I've had to buy food for the week a few times on less than £10 and have managed. You have to buy things that will fill you up like potatoes, rice and pasta, cheap tomato paste or something like that, some veg, tinned meat or fish you can mix in with it... Hopefully you can manage and the week goes quick for you

Groceries have gone up here in the US. Literally hamburger is unaffordable. It’s bad.

It depends where they live. There are a lot of very rural places where trucks have to travel a long way to deliver groceries and food can be expensive.

That's shit 😔 food has gotten really expensive here the last few years, but there's still quite a lot of cheap stuff if you look for it, like you can get a 1kg bag of rice for around 52p, I think that's around 70 cents. Hopefully the op can get enough food to last the week

Wow, that’s insanely cheap. The most inexpensive bag of essentially the same size where I live is $3.47 which is 5x that and that’s from Walmart. There are people in the US who have very limited grocery options and have to shop at the local general store or drive an hour away to the closest grocery store and food can be wildly expensive. I’m not saying that’s OP, they can probably get a weeks worth of food for 2 for less than $60. I’m just saying some people’s food is expensive af in the US.

That's so bad, even the more expensive brands at 1kg here are cheaper than that. I do feel sorry for you guys over there with your cost of living, especially the healthcare for those who don't have much money, we complain about things but we're thankful we have the NHS and people like myself who are type 1 diabetics get all our medication free, it's shocking and incredibly sad when I've read posts from people saying they have no insulin and can't afford to get any, or they have to buy random stuff from walmart 😔

It’s really sad. Especially considering how many people support policies and politicians who support all this bullshit who directly feel the impact but are too stupid and/or ignorant to actually look at what’s going on in other first world countries. They just hear “socialism”.

Yeah that's awful 😔 hopefully one day people will wake up and see sense, things really do need to change for you guys. Having said that, we currently have an idiot running the country into the ground because people thought voting for them would make things better, but they've now put the retirement age up, said it'll go up every 5 years if they think it should and are taxing the elderly on their pensions, so anyone around my sons age (early 20s) will probably have to work until they're 90 🙄

Groceries are really expensive in the US.

    Yeah it's awful 😔

  • $60 til the end of the week? Like tomorrow?

This is my question as well.

  • rice and beans. eggs. cabbage. apples. go on youtube and look up cheap budget meals.

  • tortillas and cheese and beans.

    And rice.

Get some broccoli in you as well and you can live for months on just that.

    Ask me how I know...

  • Rice and roasted chicken cal last up to 3 days.

  • Rotisserie Chicken can be very handy!

  • Make a nice pot of chili with ground beef or turkey, beans extra beans if u need more protein/sustenance, chili seasoning, can of rotel, crock pot! Easy and u can eat for days!

  • Rice and chicken

  • I used to make ground beef and rice with peas and soy sauce. That’s easy and pretty good. Also u can’t go wrong with white bread and PB and J’s

  • Two packs chicken ramen, sautéed bag of coleslaw, brown a roll of pork sausage and mix together with soy sauce if it’s lurking in your fridge - this should make about 4 servings for about $6-7

  • Tuna, pasta, mayo

  • One box of pancake mix, 1 lb of butter and a bottle of cheap syrup for breakfast.

2 loafs of bread big pack of American cheese product and tomato soup. Try to find cans of soup on sale.

Dinner is make a huge casserole and eat on it through the week. With a bit of portion control you will make it through the week.

  • Rice and gravy with a pot of fresh beans will run you about $10 and feed 2 people for 5 days easily.

I know a lot of people don’t like Chat GPT but I told it to organize my list to help you. I shop at Walmart. I assumed you had some things like mustard and vegetable oil. You have money left to add drinks or some chips. This would get 2 ppl through a week easy 💛 it gets better friend.

I forgot to tell you the little jar of el pato salsa is for Spanish rice

  • Rice and dried beans. You can live off just that for a pretty long time, months without any issues, but you'll need to supplement it eventually with some fatty foods and some vitamins. A few cheap cuts of meat occasionally and a little cheese should cover the missing vitamins. Fruit occasionally but scurvey won't be an issue with the beans.

  • I love the website BudgetBytes for budget friendly recipes!

  • White rice, drained can tuna, sesame oil/butter, soy sauce. (You can fancy it up with sesame oil/seeds, crumbled dried seaweed, etc)

Or white rice with fried eggs over top.

Being Asian, raised by Asian immigrants, I always have rice, even when I'm not struggling. I'm cooking rice now, to go with a crock pot of chili. I'll mix rice with my chili, instead of crackers. I always make too much chili, so I'll freeze ½ to thaw & eat next month.

Also, have you considered going to a food pantry/bank? I went to 1 that gave weekly groceries (usually 2 loaves of bread, fresh veggies, and a treat, like honey buns) + once a month, they'd give you a big cart of frozen, box, dried and canned foods (mac n cheese, soups, beans, cannedfruits, frozen chicken, pork or fish).

  • Go to a food bank. That's what they're for, so you don't spend your last dollar on barely being able to eat.

  • Cabbage, carrots, onions, potatoes, beans (dry), rice, frozen veg, canned tomatoes (whole peeled; yuo can chop for diced tomatoes and blend/process for crushed)

  • Plain oatmeal. Snag some jelly packets from the convenience store for flavor.

  • It's just a week. I would eat spaghetti every day. Cheap as fuk. Canned tuna. Cabbage. Bread, peanut butter, eggs, chicken thighs,

  • OP - list what you have in the house currently. We can help you build upon that.

  • Just put it towards bills and starve till someone asks you to suck 😂

  • Can of chili, bag of 90 min rice. Shredded cheese. Cook rice, separate onto 2 plates, dump half can of chili over the top of each plate of rice, pop back in microwave. Then top with cheese.

  • Ramen. And gt a pack of broccoli slaw to top it. Maybe some eggs to drop an egg in while it's cooking.

  • Lots of great ideas from PPs. I suggest looking into a local food pantry too. They can set you up with pantry and fridge staples. Good luck to you.

  • Cheap rotisserie chicken, 2 small or 1 large can cream of chicken soup, 1 tub 16 Oz sour cream 2 boxes of stuffing. Makes a large casserole of "chicken shit " will feed 2 people multiple times and it's amazing!!!!

Pull apart the chicken put in bottom of casserole pan. Mix together the cream of chicken and sourcream until well combined with whatever seasoning you like. Pour that over top of the chicken and spread it out evenly. Make the stuffing on the stove after it is done spread out over top of the chicken and sauce completely covering it. Bake at 375 around 30ish minutes until everything is hot and stuffing is crunchy of top. You will not regret it 🤣 at my house we call it chicken shit ❤️❤️❤️

  • Hamburger helper and pb and j and spaghetti

  • instant ramen, rice, tuna and legumes like chickpeas or beans are your best bet

  • Assuming the pantry is totally empty except salt and pepper :

    • large container of oats ($5)
    • 18 ct eggs ($5)
    • 1 lb dried pinto beans ($2)
    • 1 lb dried lentils ($2)
    • 1 lb long grain rice ($2)
    • frozen peas ($2)
    • frozen broccoli ($2)
    • frozen berries ($4)
    • scallions ($2)
    • oil ($10)
    • a bag of onions ($5)
    • a bag of potatoes ($5)
    • peanut butter ($3)
    • plain yogurt ($5)
    • loaf of whole wheat bread ($2)

    Lots of meal options here:

    • oats with frozen berries and peanut butter
    • mujadarra with yogurt
    • egg fried rice
    • refried beans + rice
    • breakfast potatoes + eggs + broccoli
    • peanut butter sandwiches
  • Check your market for deal on frozen chicken breasts. A bag of these got me through a completely empty bank account. It’s about 10- meals. Check local food bank for staples like rice or potatoes.

  • Road kill, it's free

  • A couple bags of spaghetti, 2lbs of ground beef, n sauce..

  • Buy rice, dry beans or lentils, eggs, chicken leg quarters, ground meat, oats, frozen vegetables, and cheap fruit. These foods give the most calories and protein per dollar.

Eat oats or eggs for breakfast. Eat rice and beans with vegetables for lunch. Eat chicken or ground meat with rice for dinner. Cook in bulk and drink water.

  • Butter garlic angel hair pasta, chili, stir fry, tacos, roast

  • I've done 2 weeks of top ramen noodles n convenience store condiments. They have free pico de gallo. I've even got some of their nachos cheese for my noodles. Just act like u belong.

  • Rice and beans. Oatmeal. Can you use a food pantry?

  • Make taco meat with chicken thighs, bone-in are typically very affordable. You can cook the hell out of them and they just get better and better. Taco seasoning and corn tortillas are very cheap.

  • I challenged myself to economize until the end of the year. It's actually fun to economize like this, even if you don't have to.

  • Beans, rice, dried veggies, bouillon, soy sauce, 12 pack eggs. :)

If you have spices, you can make amazing combos with this.

  • Pasta, canned tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, chicken thighs, bacon, carton of eggs.

  • Brinner (breakfast for dinner) always helps. Cereal/oatmeal for actual breakfast, eggs & sausage (cheaper than bacon and more filling) as the nighttime meal.

  • Beans, ham , chicken quarters for chicken and dumplings, etc if you have a good pantry you could live a month off that if you only drink water...

  • I do ramen with an egg. Float some greens like shredded lettuce, or frozen broccoli. For breakfast, it’s just oatmeal, like in the canister. I soak it overnight with whatever I have on hand: milk, yogurt, some syrup or jam, any fruit hanging around. Lunch is a flex: my workplace offers peanut butter, and sometimes jelly, so I’ll bring a banana in for a major snack on my breaks. It’s tough eating these days. But if you’re up for it, it can be done. Be well.

  • Rice, beans, garlic, cans of tomatoes. Make a big pan. That’s 20$. Will last all week. Eggs for breakfast? Yogurt? Package of chicken thighs-Grilled or roasted in oven with potatoes and onions? Cabbage and veg soup- carrots, celery, greens, zucchini- whatever is on sale. Can of beans again, blend into a thick minestrone. Warm meal, full belly.

  • Box of pasta/garlic/salt&pepper/canned tomatoes. Ground Beef/mac&cheese box/onion/green pepper. A case of ramen and frozen vegetables. Refried Beans/Tortillas/american cheese. Where I live you should be able to get all of that for under $60.

  • Potatoes, some butter, some cheese, beans

  • If you boil 2 eggs and a russet potato, mix in a bowl with salt or pepper and lightly mustard to it. It will sit like concrete in your stomach. You can also season however you like it.

  • Looks like it's a pasta week. Done plenty of those in my early years of marriage. A whole box of noodles and 2-3 jars of sauce would last my wife an I 3 days pretty easily. It sucks but it's doable. Mix in some apples and bananas for breakfast.

  • Mac n cheese, tomato soup and grilled cheese, hot dogs, any pastas with sauce, rice and beans can be stretched and you can add canned meats to them along with sauces or seasonings, eggs are all fairly cheap meals.

  • I’d just buy a lot of pasta and pasta sauce. Some seasonings maybe?

  • Lots of bread for sandwiches. Lunch meat. Cheese and butter for grill cheese Soups And ramen always good. Pasta sauces and dry noodles are cheap. Dry beans and rice

  • Carton of eggs, a bag of rice, bag of lentils or dried beans, frozen mixed veggies, cans of tuna, cabbage- those are my go-to’s when $ is tight.

  • Rice and black beans with a fried egg on top could make 20 bucks last a week for one person.

  • Food bank like every one else

  • Ever heard of Google?

Ever heard of not being a dick?

Yep, its no fun, besides my question is still valid. A quick google search will give you enough options, but no lets go to reddit and ask even though it will take way longer.

Seriously. This is my question for most posts like this.
