You gotta add some pizzazz to those noods, my friend! You don't have to spend a lot of money to be able to make good instant ramen! There are a lot of helpful videos online, but around 80% of them do stupid shit like adding truffles or something else stupidly expensive. But those 20% will show you the best ways to make a super cheap struggle ramen. You've got this, brudda/sista! Give yourself the treat you deserve.
Yes! I always fuck up a soft boiled, since I never have ice to do an ice bath. So I always just crack it in and stir it at the end. 50/50 chance it makes a good emulsified experience, or if it turns into egg drop soup. Great either way, and is much more sustaining. I need to start putting a bowl of water in the freezer for the ice bath when I make ramen lol
I just put a bowl in the sink under running cold water and put the hot boiled egg immediately in that. It does the same as an ice bath you're just trying to get the heat away from the egg.
Run it under the water for a minute or so til it cools down, peel and drop it in the ramen. Or for added flavor peel, then swish it around with some soy sauce then eat it on top.
I tried just cold water, but I might've messed up the cook time when I did. It came out kinda soft, but the yolk was set, with no runniness. Just a lil gummy. But another comment recommended vinegar in the water, and a different time than I've seen before. I'll try out both suggestions!
For extra bougieness, if you soak it in soy sauce overnight (you add more stuff to it to make a proper ramen egg, but I forget) it gets that badass darkened look to it, and tastes absolutely fire. I think you add Mirin...? Mirin, Soy Sauce, and sesame seed? I'm pretty sure that's wrong, but it's close! But the longer you leave it, the more developed the flavor. Just don't let it rot or ferment lol
The trick is to add some vinegar to your boiling water, bring the eggs to a boil with the water, once the water is boiling turn down the heat to low and put a lid on, let them sit for about 7 minutes, put them in the ice bath and let them sit for about 15 minutes before you peel :)
Oh shit! Heard that! I'll give that a go next time I have some eggs! I work on an egg farm sadly (they're far worse than I thought, and I thought they were pretty rough), so I get 24 free eggs a week. Been trying to find out how to get through em all ffs. We have like 4 cartons in our fridge, and I'm startin to freak out.
There are literally thousands of things to add lol. Any one suggestion could be hated by someone else. Hence why I said to check out some vids. But you're right, I should've at least given the basics to fancy struggle ramen. A lot of it comes down to cooking technique. If you have a stove, or a hot plate, it's so much better than microwaving. But usually I add a soft boiled egg, or I scramble an egg in the ramen when it's 1/2 way through cooking. Any kind of onion as well. Finely diced and carmelized white onion goes great for the broth. Yellow would work as well, if you want less aggression in the flavor. Green onion makes it smell and taste more like homemade soup. Sautéed spinach is pretty good in it too, but spinach goes bad in like .2 seconds. So if you have it, it's great. If you don't, fuck all that noise. Eggs are pretty pricey, but everything else is extremely cheap, and makes a wild difference. <--- So many more cheap and beneficial things to do to ramen. If time and effort is the problem, just cook that shit on the stove and scramble 1 egg at the end. It only adds like $0.50 to the meal. Ik that can be too much sometimes, but if you can manage to get a little bit of stuff, it goes a long way. Much love fellas
Yup. I add sliced radishes and sliced onions and a boiled egg. That’s less than a dollar on veggies. Also gotta boil the noodles in separate water then add to broth. C’mon! You’re not even trying here!
Y'know, I've never thought to boil the noodles in different water. I'll try that later for sure. Add some salt and oil to the boiling water, and cook it like actual pasta. Not much salt tho. 1 extra grain is probably 101% your daily limit from 1 pack
That's exactly what I figured. Definitely going to give it a go. My least favorite part about instant ramen is that .2 seconds into eating it, you have a thick mushy consistency. Sick of eating a whole bowl in .019 seconds. You might've just changed my life lmfao
Exactly. I've been doing dishes and chores all fucking day and just sat down to drink a beer and turn on The Godfather, which is a tradition I started.
But I fucking wish we were ordering out and just watching football.
Instead I will be helping all day and the amount of dishes I will be doing later tonight will take me a fucking hour.
Tbh these moments are fleeting and I enjoy them at the end of the whole ordeal when I finally get to go back home.
As somebody who has been as poor as somebody can possibly be without being on the streets, I can safely say you are not alone. Keep your head up don't let this bring you down there's always next year and the year after. You will do better.
Merry Christmas to you, may this memory give you strength in the future.
I spent a thanksgiving alone once living in an apartment with no furniture. I had a frozen pizza for dinner. I will never forget that. I’m doing much much better now. Keep your feet moving. Never give up. Also, I would have cooked those noodles more ;)
Just an idea, chicken breasts by me are like$2 for like 6. Cook up a bread and crack an egg in there to supercharge the ramen. Maybe even dice an onion and cook it with the ramen. Delicious.

Convenience stores have free toppings for that. I know I've done it..
That's pretty cool tbh. I'm guessing those lil dehydrated vegetables in a pack? Or do they have straight up egg, chives, and other things like that?
They'll have free onions or relish a lot of the time. It's technically for hot dogs.
Ah! That's super rad actually! Definitely a good way to add some nutritional value to a cup/bowl o noods
This. A soft boiled egg or two, or sometimes I cook an egg directly into my ramen. Some veggies, some protein, maybe some garlic??

This! Saw this trick in a Korean cooking video. Works every time.

Donate some to a local food pantry? :)
That's honestly a great idea. Didn't think of that. Imagine if the multi billion dollar corporation I work for did that lol.
Save some of the dry noodles to crush on top as a garnish. Adds a nice little crunch!
Ooh or some crispy fried onions!!!!
All this without even one suggestion? C'mon man, what do you put in your ramen?
There are literally thousands of things to add lol. Any one suggestion could be hated by someone else. Hence why I said to check out some vids. This is what I was hoping for. There are some damn good suggestions here, thanks!
Absolutely! Thank you for asking. I was struggling to think of my own toppings until you asked lol
Throw an egg in, chives or green onions go a long way, too.
Pro tip: Save a little of the dry noodles to crush on top as a garnish. Adds a nice little crunch.

I find the broth is less starchy, and the noodle don’t get too soggy.
That's exactly what I figured. Definitely going to give it a go. My least favorite part about instant ramen is that .2 seconds into eating it, you have a thick mushy consistency. Sick of eating a whole bowl in .019 seconds. You might've just changed my life lmfao
Looks ideal. I have to have dinner with family.

Same!!!
Be glad you get to spend time with family ❤️
I would appreciate time with family. It gets harder later in life. Now if we’re talking (in-laws) I’d agree.
Lucky you
Merry Christmas ya filthy animal

We got ourselves a Scrooge here! /lh
Not enough! 😝
As somebody who has been as poor as somebody can possibly be without being on the streets, I can safely say you are not alone. Keep your head up don't let this bring you down there's always next year and the year after. You will do better.
Merry Christmas to you, may this memory give you strength in the future.

Happy holidays!
Joo
I would love to eat ramen, drink a glass of tea, and eat Oreos. Instead, we are having twenty people over and it will be chaotic as he'll
Hell yea
I love Oreos and I love ramen. Merry Christmas.
🥰🥰🥰🥰
Merry Christmas, may many bounties await you in the new year
You have food. You have shelter. You are doing well. Don’t feel you need to compete with others for holidays. It’s a zero sum game.
Merry Christmas 🎄. Better days ahead
To nepotěší 😂
Better than mine, I feel ya, friend. Stay strong.
I just woke up at 3 in the morning and for some reason that bowl of noodle looks good .. merry Christmas ♥️
Better than some good job 👏
Just an idea, chicken breasts by me are like$2 for like 6. Cook up a bread and crack an egg in there to supercharge the ramen. Maybe even dice an onion and cook it with the ramen. Delicious.
We all broke huh
You have food… I don’t.
W
Fuck yeah!!
You in jail, bro?
I literally just had some ramen 10 minutes ago!
Actually still good…Oreos good noodles good
merry christmas. perfect for a cold weather
Odds are there was free Christmas dinners being given away somewhere around you. Keep your eyes open for that stuff.
This looks lovely
Pretty sure that those are actually the worst things aside from alcohol that you could consume
Way to go, carbage with no protein in sight
Noodle soup.
I had ramen for lunch. I plan on pork chop tonight
If you have some oil you can make a stir fry noodle dish
Ditto . I think I may have a couple of bread ends to add to the course 😂
Christmas is tomorrow.
Must be nice to not be at work
As to take a pic with your $1000 phone
Needs a bit of green onions
I see your ramen and raise you a hungryman turkey dinner.
This is what Christ wanted. Amen.
Better than nothing
Noodles don’t look cooked.
No joke, I've got ramon too. Might add a egg to make it fancy.
Hey it’s better than a water sandwich
Dry scoop some protein powder and your journey to the dark side will be complete
Lucky!
By choice or design?
Good thing Christmas is tomorrow so this is just a preview
I think I'd skip the entree and go for desert first.
How old are those cookies? Are they still putting Minecraft movie promotions on food?
Looks good but I can feel the carbs and calories.. at least 1200+ calories and 200 carbs. But that is if you ate all those cookies.
Great meal, Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas - peace on earth and goodwill toward men.
I think u added too much water in those noodles
I saw a few drive thrus full. So you are ok
Grace.
I’ve been there brother. Trust me, lots of folks would love to trade with you for some lack of sustenance for the peace that comes with it!
Same most nights but I keep a rotisserie chicken in the fridge to add into the Ramen and everything else
You had dinner?
Nice to get over full
You guys got food?
I'm making potroast in the crock pot. Less work, more relaxing on Christmas.
Do you eat these at the same time?
whats on regular day then?
Oreo flavoured Mr. Noodle? Big pass.
Why… do you not cook your ramen noodles?!
You're not alone
Uhh you know your supposed to cook the noodles in the boiling water lol
Uh please explain to us how exactly did you find out this water is not boiling water?
Do you know the difference between boiling & boiled?
Then you answered your own question lol
Have you ever eaten these just with poured boiling hot water on them? If not, then there's absolutely no reason to debate lol
Wheres the copious amounts of alcohol?
PRESSURE
Your so lucky, all I had was pork, roasties and Yorkshire puddings 😒
Slap a slice of spam, add an egg and cut green onions- That’s a $18 bowl of gourmet Ramen
You could get a bag of potatoes instead of eating like a kid.

Looks like a microwave job. That with the line around the rim too, but could be wrong.
