Was arguing with someone about whether or not you should play a video game before discussing it online. They said “my parents don’t let me play video games” and I realized I’d been arguing with a child.

Hey imagine all the shit you learned and experienced since you were eight
Now imagine all the shit you will learn and experience between now and when you're 28
Don't try to act like you've learned everything you ever will or all your experiences will be reruns of the last ten years, that's what you thought when you were eight.

The crazy thing about arguing online is that you get bombarded with the literal least charitable interpretation of what you said.
“But what about…”
“What if I don’t…”
“How could you X? While Y is happening?”
“Meanwhile X is doing Y, unbelievable”
In order to comment perfectly, one must attach a million caveats and disclaimers about how and why you said something as well as omit nothing, lest you be accused of ignoring or silencing something else.
Then you’re like “what? That’s not what I meant, what do you mean”
“It’s not my job to educate you!! Hope this helps!!”
why does everyone want to be a minor on the internet now? i was pretending to be an adult or at least an older teen since i was like 10. now that i'm an adult everyone wants to be kids. makes no sense to me
Yeah it is weird lol. It used to be embarrassing to be a kid online, but now everyone’s kinda proud of it. My guess is because it acts as a shield against criticism since you can just say “i’m a minor” when you get called out for something. That’s why some people try to drag being a minor out into the early 20s lol
it's definitely not everyone, i was being a bit hyperbolic, but when i was growing up i was told to never put your real name or age on the internet. i get that it's a different culture with facebook and the like now but just a sign of the times i suppose. i just remember emulating a deep voice every time i was on xbox live lol
There's Ageplay or Adult Baby/Diaper Lover (AB/DL) where the adults involved (women and men) roleplay being a baby or toddler.
There have been people who faked having a mental disorder for views, attention, and some even money.
Starting at some point in 2012, a woman named Amanda C. Riley started a blog and her social media presence around this idea that she had Hodgkin's lymphoma. For almost a decade, she faked having cancer and raised a lot of money from faking it. She shaved her head, forged medical documents and more just to keep the lie going so she could continue to get money.
Some adults pretending to be kids is the least craziest claim anyone could make. Especially when peadophile hunters exist and their most common strategy involves.. pretending to be a child online to lure in paedophiles.
"No wants to pretend they're kids" is not true. At all
If it helps any, it was a formative experience for me to argue with adults online as a minor (like 12 years old LOL) and get my ass cooked in the comments. Sometimes it humbles you into becoming a better adult.
i was on reddit on ten lmao 😭 the comments are still cooking me for being young despite not being a minor even though they agree with me so the feeling persists
It's a great way to discern people who actually know what they're talking about from people who just use the current trending buzzword that tiktok told them to use
Its not really a buzzword, I’m just not going to waste my time typing art, movies, tv shows, news, books, podcasts, advertisements, and more whenever I’m referring to all those things. It’s just convenient.
Buuurp consuming all of these media is making me bloated and gassy brrppp I must consume more to become a true mediacel and ascent past being a greycel
It’s always funny when you’re arguing over something you believed when you were younger and changed your opinion on over the years, bc you can’t tell them nothing. I always get second(third?) hand embarrassment bc god I was so stupid!!
meat + rainbow means proship ("pro shipping", for shipping, etc. but sometimes also used as an abbreviation for "problematic shipping", shipping itself being a slang word for putting two or more characters in a relationship). often people with this in their bio tend to post about characters in relationships and dynamics that would be considered unhealthy and abusive IRL (incest, agegap, pedophilia, domestic abuse, bestiality, rape). due to the nature of the topics discussed the proship community SHOULD be strictly 18+ but there are a large amount of minors participating in this as well
It wasn't an argument but I remember having a debate with a guy saying that ugly people don't matter, where I was telling him that he was chatting shit. Then I slowly realized he was just an insecure 16 year old and I felt really bad for him.
Oh weird. Are the leyley pfps that much of a kid thing? I just thought it was a gay thing. I know like half a dozen queer women with them in their 20s/30s
Yeah that's fair. Most of them are kind of uncomfortably edgy sometimes. Personally I enjoyed the game, but I used it more for processing my own abusive relationship rather than as something to idealize.
When I'm not working, I've been spending so much more time just riding my bike outside and running and playing sports with my friends that I'm so grateful not to recognize anything on this accursed starter pack
its annoying af, there’s been way too many times i’ve left comments and someone calls me out for talking cringe when it’s literally just my dialect. i still miss saying slay 💔 fade, crash out, pmo, opps, etc are all seen as corny now
Shit goes back literally decades lol white people are always stealing black slang and making it uncool which is why black folks are always on the cutting edge of making new slang to stay one step ahead of the corny white people. Can go all the way back to the 70s with "jive" and "groovy" and still see the same pattern
Decadology sends anyone over 30 into a bit of a rage as kids try to doll up/glaze the decades you were alive and fully aware for.
Also, watching how "AI slop" originally used to refer to something specific to basically "anything I don't like that also happens to be poorly made or to well made is obviously AI slop" in real time has been a wild ride.
I try not to argue with people online in general. Unknowingly talking with a minor is one of the reasons, as well as just maintaining my all-around mental health.
Probably because they didn't actually say anything. That's actually the purpose of the downvote. Just like comments like theirs should just be an upvote.

Yep, that line is the universal sign to disengage. No winning, no explaining, just close the tab and move on.

def agree with what i see on r/decadeology. some of the questions im just like......................
I just opened it to a picture of the sky titled "the sky in 2019" you really weren't joking
I had to leave that one the other day, the people there started to annoy the hell out of me. That sub is full of literal children
"how did people talk before cell phones?"
Lots of shouting mostly
I just wanted to see nostalgia. I need to block that stupid sub
I'm convinced that 75% of the members in r/decadeology aren't even in high school yet
They've been alive for one decade
I don't think those are minors. I think most of them are adults who refuse to accept that not everything is super deep.
good god that fucking place. I was excited to see some 2000s culture and such, but nah.
I have no idea why there are people born in like 2012 in that sub… it’s not like the subject is like Blippy or whatever lol
op just turned 18

Reminds me of this:
That's how it is anytime someone hits the big 18 they instantly start having arguments with minors
Better than being a Minecraft Youtuber

That’s fair I just tend to think of unc as like. Middle aged and up with expert knowledge on something. But I see your point
yea i’m more accustomed to it referring to being out of touch !

Pinterest is full of these. Saw some kid ask what an abortion was and instantly noped out of that comment section.
I miss when Pinterest was full of soccer moms and wine aunts and grannies.
LMAO imagining this is killing me
Murder :))))

My favorite is when they talk themselves into a corner and completely ghost you. Cracks me up every time.

Minor = zero consequences for anything you say or do
Aside from pedos. No one wants to pretend they're kids. I dunno why you made this entire thing up?

When you mention Islam once and then “Mason☦️🗿 🏳️🌈🫷☦️🫸🏳️⚧️” shows up
I’ll never get why conservative christians hate islam, they both have the exact same values 😭
Same reason closeted gay people end up being outwardly homophobic lol
Orthodox are…secretly radical Wahabbists?
don't think that's the same reason, Islam and Christianity aren't polar opposites
Shhh don't tell them. Once they figure this out we're screwed.
Bold of you to assume they have the brainpower to figure that out.
Doesn’t matter what we tell them lol. You think they care about facts? Plus we’re all cooked anyways 😭
Ehhh… except for the CORE BELIEF
Maybe they don't like all the mass murder.
Unless it happens in a foreign country, or to people with the wrong race or sexuality
Only your strawman version.
Orthodox Christian named Mason?
Crazy how I log in at 24 and somehow end up arguing with someone whose bedtime is in 20 minutes.
When they refer to art as “media” I get the ick
“consuming media” as a term drives me crazy
It's a great way to discern people who actually know what they're talking about from people who just use the current trending buzzword that tiktok told them to use

I never realized that was something kids did lol, I often use it as a catch-all for movies/videos/TV/games/art/photos etc.
Buuurp consuming all of these media is making me bloated and gassy brrppp I must consume more to become a true mediacel and ascent past being a greycel

Newly acquired and felt it fit
You forgot the allcaps and catastrophizing tone of whatever they're posting that makes early Tumblr look downright stony.
Is that an MF DOOM reference
It wasn't an argument but I remember having a debate with a guy saying that ugly people don't matter, where I was telling him that he was chatting shit. Then I slowly realized he was just an insecure 16 year old and I felt really bad for him.
Unless he was bullied or rejected himself for being ugly, don’t feel bad. It’s not normal for a healthy teenager to say that
Oh weird. Are the leyley pfps that much of a kid thing? I just thought it was a gay thing. I know like half a dozen queer women with them in their 20s/30s
its basically a modern signifier of being an edgelord, dont know if that varies with age
Yeah that's fair. Most of them are kind of uncomfortably edgy sometimes. Personally I enjoyed the game, but I used it more for processing my own abusive relationship rather than as something to idealize.
people who support incest and other weird stuff
yeah, they're so weird for liking that stuff..
Not all of them 🙏
99% of the time, the “God loving” Christian accounts are the ones that post and comment racist, sexist, radically homophobic, generally vile crap
tbh i don't think anyone should be allowed on social media let alone minors
When I'm not working, I've been spending so much more time just riding my bike outside and running and playing sports with my friends that I'm so grateful not to recognize anything on this accursed starter pack
ill argue with who i want idgaf if they a kid
What does "🍖🌈" mean?
Second this
It means proshipping. Its a fanfiction thing.
I also support shipping to hell with "planes" or "trucks" i want everything and everybody going by the seas
Venicification of all cities, now!
Who's gonna tell him
in my opinion, anyone that uses the word "unc" instantly lost all credibility
im black, thats been in my vocabulary my whole life
White children have co opted everything anyone has ever said just to make it cringe for other white people. It’s a cottage industry atp

Calls you a pedo when you fact check them
there has never been a safe space for kids on the internet. even if there was, they were a click away from destroying the family computer.

I’m a minor and neurodivergent
I argued with plenty of adults online as a minor. I thought it was normal. I just found out now as an adult, I had a gotcha I didn’t use 🧍♂️
as a minor who argues with minors ur not that wrong
although i don't say non-issue cuz that's annoying
Wow reddit nuked you. You didn't deserve that

If you would like to know why you're being downvoted.
That makeup look would be considered very cheerful for Izzy, they used to wear like full skull face paint and very over the top alt makeup.
So seeing you call them "sad" over that is laughable.
sometimes it's not our turn to talk
