Just realized I have to go to bed really early before Christmas to open my store, what the hell is this?
who are we going to sell coffee too, specially my location at Manhattan barely has any customers around from 5 till 8 and I know for god sake that peak would be dead as hell too :(
You’d be surprised. I worked on holidays before and it seems like they brought out the worst in people. Prepare to have half the customers saying “I can’t believe you’re open” then proceed to order six drinks for their family.
Take a shot (✨of water ofc✨) every time we get “I can’t believe you’re open!” Or the fact we’re open so late on Christmas Eve
During my cafe days, when people would say that I’d be like, “yep, here we both are!” 😁
Easter, Father’s Day and Fourth of July were the worst shifts with the rudest asshole customers.
Christmas Eve customers would like a word
You'd be serving coffee to people like me who works 20 hours Christmas eve and 12 on Christmas day 😅 (but not me because I hate contributing to the problem)
Good luck to the Christmas workers hopefully it won't be hell
Serving coffee to medics and other health workers who’ll be on standby as children injure themselves or their Karen parents playing with their Christmas gifts.
I guess I understand
As someone who for several years was alone on the 25th and not celebrating that big holiday, just thank you to those who do volunteer to go in, a little normalcy in the form of coffee on a day where almost everything is closed and emphasizing that you should be with a big group of loved ones that day was just what my depressed self needed. 💜
You'd think holidays would be slow, but they're not. They really suck, actually. They often get staffed to be slow but then people want to get away from their families or something, and it's a complete madhouse.
I remember the days, not so long ago, when certain holidays - Christmas being one of them - were voluntary workdays.
we'll be serving santa who will be working his ass off that night! man needs a coffee for sure, don't forget pup cups for the reindeer ;)
i'm not working because it's optional and I did not volunteer, but I honestly wouldn't mind a 4:30am - 10:15am shift. In and out before I would've met up with my family anyway. My store isn't opening until 7am though.
I've heard it's pretty busy on christmas. I'm guessing not early in the morning though since people will sleep in or open presents with their family first.
At our store it's described as volunteer based, but our SM requires that we volunteer for 3 days between Christmas Eve/Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Eve/Day.
I have to travel for Christmas (not an insane amount; a healthy 6-7 hour drive there and back), but because of the "3 day minimum" rule I have to open on Christmas Eve (4:30-1) so I can be off Christmas Day and Boxing Day. I have time to get to my family's place, be there on Christmas, and leave Boxing Day (so I can be back for work on the 27th).
I like that we have the ability to choose which days we get off, but it feels kinda incorrect to be calling them volunteer based when they kinda aren't. I would still gladly work New Year's Eve/Day, but I just need more time for travel and I can't get it because of staffing.
Dang you got to volunteer? Wasn't like that at all at my store
I have to get up at 3 am to be there, I work till 2 pm XD
It’ll be a mix of other people who have to work Christmas as well but big time just people who want coffee and don’t wanna make it at home
Look on the bright side- time and a half? ¯_(ツ)_/¯
In most locations, the cash tip pool for Christmas day is for that day ONLY.
It's a busy day, but the customers are generally in a good mood, and the tips (credit card or cash) are ample, and limited to the staff working that day.
As somebody who's not a Christian, I'll volunteer for Christmas Day service every year.
The atmosphere is pleasant, and I get to make a lot of money.
I tell people if you get the opportunity to work a christmas do it!!!!! That week i racked in $180+ in tips just for working that one day.
Manhattan New York City or Manhattan Montana? Two wildly different places. I could understand if you were in manhattan Montana where there is very little religious diversity but there is quite a large Jewish population in the northeast and they don’t celebrate Christmas and usually get shafted on Christian holidays. They usually are pretty great to those working on those days.
I was thinking of asking that.
The Oasis (in Manhattan, MT) has always been a go-to for tasty steak.
NYC has a VERY large Jewish population, which appreciates options on Christmas Day.
I saw a similar post on Thanksgiving. It sucks to work holidays. I’m from a healthcare family and we’ve all done it frequently. Just know that we do appreciate having something other than hospital coffee when going to/from work.
Lmao how did you just realize this? Schedules come out way in advance. This is rage bait.
Agreed.
You didn't have to agree to work.
It's mandatory for me
no, no it is not. christmas is completely voluntary!! you do not have to work girl
That was 100% not how it was presented to partners and it wasn’t announced that Christmas was voluntary until after the schedule was posted.
But it was made clear before Christmas. You can refuse to work.
they never said that at my store. If you're scheduled you have to work it, period. They didn't give anyone a say
That's a shame. I know that a lot of managers were lied to.
At least I know for next year!
It's not.
For me it’s fun cause in Austria it isn’t even optional. Our store is open “late” tomorrow from 7:30 am to 6pm. I’m doing 6:30 am to 2:30 pm - let’s see how busy we will be in the end
I don’t understand why we can’t open later on holidays if we have to open, we really shouldn’t be open, but whatever. I’m so sorry.
Heyyy I’m in manhattan too. Yea we are not going to be busy so it will be an easy open!
I'm sure you'll be seeing those hitting the road early to head out to visit relatives for the day...those leaving early with the kids sleeping in the back seats. Some will be having an early Christmas with one side of the family, then back on the road to see the other side.
Merry Christmas to you! Hope Santa's reindeer don't wake you up overnight.
Join the party! I’m not excited for it. Even though it’s still training. But who the hell am I serving coffee for
Unfortunately Christmas is never slow lmao
I'm not working on Christmas this year, and I'm so grateful. I work in customer service, and it's egregious. The last thing I'd want is to take calls from people I really don't care about and pretend to gaf about their issues on Christmas.
My store opens at 4
Serving people like me - not everyone celebrates Christmas. For me it's Thursday.
Christmas can be a long day. A Starbucks trip can help us all. We appreciate you!
When I worked at Starbucks it was always a fight to work Xmas day. People were waitlisted for shifts. The tips were amazing!
Welcome to retail kid
I have a shift at 7am the morning after getting in from a flight at 11, then a four hour drive home
