Hi everyone,
I’m completely new to investing and I’m looking to start investing in the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE). I currently have LKR 100,000 as starting capital and want to approach this the right way as a beginner.
I’d like to know how someone new should get started with CSE and whether a broker is required to trade or if it’s possible to manage investments independently. If a broker is necessary, I’d really appreciate any recommendations for beginner-friendly broker firms. I’m also unsure whether it’s better to focus on long-term investing rather than active trading at the beginning. I’m not chasing quick profits and mainly want to learn about the process, risks, and best practices before committing fully.
Any advice, personal experiences, or learning resources would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

What u/unwantedagent said and also to add to that, start with an emergency fund first. You don't want to be in a situation where you have most of your money invested and you need to suddenly pull them out in case of an emergency. I have my reasoning written down here. https://www.wealthyislander.com/articles/smartest-first-investment-emergency-fund/
Yaa true don't put everything in the same basket.
