It was like watching them lose to the Commanders last year. Came into the game with the best offense in the league…..and that offense absolutely shit the bed against a completely inferior team. I think they had five turnovers.
Their defense knows how to close Goff pocket and have been for the past two years. Im glad were put we need to chill and recoup. Shore up our o line and defense and get healthy secondary
“Completely inferior team” man if only there was some sort of way to tell who is the better team. Perhaps a contest of sorts? Like both teams play some sort of “football” game against each other? They could even do it twice since they’re in the same division! Surely the results of both games would tell us who is the completely inferior team.
Yeah turnovers typically don’t include turnovers on downs. I would say I’m surprised they didn’t have any turnover on downs today based on the result but they barely held on to the ball long enough to make it to fourth down
Oh? Because our defense when healthy (no Jonathan Grenard) is really, really good. We beat the lions up badly the first time we played them this season. Ben Johnson has BFlo’s number, but Ben Johnson doesn’t live in Detroit anymore.
But it was incredible they couldn’t score once in the second half. Terrible way to miss the playoffs and as a division rival it’s a great way to end Christmas.
Whenever someone says, "You can't make it to the Superbowl without a Top [number from 5-10] QB" I casually point to the sign that says "Rex Grossman led the Bears to the Superbowl in 2006".
I would hardly call it slammed shut. They still have a ton of good players and have drafted well. A new OC, a third place schedule, and some better injury luck and they could be back in the mix next year.
Multiple pro bowlers on IR, multiple others coming off very serious injuries last year
Practice squad secondary due to injuries
Practice squad OL due to injuries and a surprise retirement
2 new coordinators
First place schedule with 3 Thursday games
Season result shouldn't be that shocking all things considered, but they still have a top 5 roster if healthy and they aren't losing anyone to free agency. Throw in a last place schedule and add another draft class into the mix... They can absolutely be right back at the top next year.
Not sure how no one mentioned the coaching staff all dipped for HC spots/promotions for other teams last offseason
Plus they have been like #1 in injuries for the last couple years which has decimated their defense especially. If you look at the stats this year their offensive numbers are among the top of the league.
I think the argument about their coaches leaving doesn’t hold as much water as their injuries. They still have one of the best offenses in the league despite losing Ben Johnson. You could argue about their defense, but look at how bad Aaron Glenn has looked for the Jets.
Window isn’t closed, they just need to fix the o line, get a new dc, and new oc, and get healthy. They lead the league the last two years in season ending injuries. Maybe a new strength/conditioning coach or something to help figure out why everyone is breaking down here.
It reminds me so much of the eagles in 2023. We were 10-1 at the time coming off a sb appearance (lions didn't make the SB last year but they were supposed to be the nfc favorite coming into the year). We weren't crushing opponents but we'd beaten like 6 or 7 playoff teams including the chiefs and bills. We felt like we were the the baddest team in the league and then the niners came into town and punched us in the mouth and the team collapsed. We changed OCs and then went out the first round in the playoffs.
Detroit was feeling themselves and then then the eagles punched them in the mouth. They changed who was calling offensive plays before playing the eagles but there's a lot of similarities to how the season played out. Who knows, maybe they get a new OC next year and go to the Superbowl in a similar vain.
Three short week games in a season should not be allowed, nor should Christmas games. Many of these players did not want to play today and I don’t blame them. Coupled with our absurd amount of injuries and you have a disgruntled team ready to fly to Cancún.
Thanksgiving game, then they miss christmas eve since they have to prep, then they miss christmas day, third short week of the season, absolutely brutal officiating against us the last 5 weeks, First time in 30 years that a team has had OPI callled on them twice in the last minute of the game in the whole league, then the officials taking the game away ("The ruling on the field was a touchdown but the game is over"), and even if they win this game they're almost certainly not getting into the playoff. And even if they get in they're the 2nd most injured team in the league so they're out first round.
Anybody who expected these guys to win was completely delusional.
The one before that didn’t get called on most teams. The defender made contact first. I can see why it was called but most teams don’t get that called in the last couple seconds of a game.
Tbf almost all of this applies to the Vikings as well lol. Only 2 Thursday games and no thanksgiving, but we did play 2 games in Europe. And had pretty fucking awful luck with injuries, and nothing to play for
Two seasons where injuries devastated the team in which one season goes 15-2 and the other is like 8-9. You are overreacting here. The Lions are fine for another 5 years
This was not the game they anticipated when it was scheduled as the prime 4:30 ET Christmas Day game. Two .500 teams that were 15-2 and 14-3 last year.
I genuinely think the "white out" stadium affected this game. Goff didn't just throw interceptions; there were an inordinate number of tipped passes as well.
I believe the white of the uniforms and the white of the crowd made players harder to track. It doesn't take much to make a difference when you're making decisions that quick.
I used to work for a company with a fleet of white trucks. Every single time there were heavy snow days we had road accidents with folks just randomly hitting us, usually two or three. The company made it policy that everyone keeps there lights on if there was even snow on the ground.
It probably affected him. When Flux is accidentally disabled my computer always blows out my eyes at night. I'm sure at this level every little thing affects their perception and can influence the game.
Back 7 injuries and the Oline was decimated by retirements and injuries. A couple of the times both Viking DEs met Goff at the same time, didn't even loose a step blowing past both tackles (backups).
Their depth on Oline really sealed the deal; it's trash.
A couple years ago they were in the nfccg and were up 24-7 over SF before shitting the bed in the second half. Doesn't get much closer than that other than actually playing in the SB.
We had a bunch of injuries build up in our Secondary again. Literal practice squad guys were filling in and then getting injured and sitting out. This game we just were constantly turning over. Which we only had 8 all season and 6 today.
Most of our season our Offense was still doing great. We just kept having teams score 30+ points.
Yes, the last two games though he has had trouble running. The OL just has been struggling all year and even early on was the biggest issue with our offense. Many of our lost games are due to stopping the run with aggressive DL.
OL can’t give him any holes in the interior, running outside only takes you so far, and his pass protect is still mediocre which means he can’t be in for all plays (which is fine with the current backfield).
He used to be better making chicken out of chickenshit but he’s still someone reliant on the holes being made for him and hitting them hard.
September is preseason that counts, it is rare that teams that look really good or really bad in September maintain it. Ever since preseason got shortened and training camps have been cut down the last few decades September is just a crap-shoot. Look at how teams play in October and you have a better sense of who is who.
Hard to play defense you want to play if you have backups of backups in the game for you. Detroit would be fine if injuries didn’t pile up two years in a row.
If you have 6 turnovers… you could only be Detroit. That is something special. That is, I have to put the rock down bc they are coming for my kneecaps and house.
and we all know the vikings will tempt their fans with the scent of possibility and hope only to knee cap them at the very last minute with sheer torturous pain
My brother in law said the cowboys and lions have never both won on a holiday game in decades. I made a joke about ‘guess I can drop 10 grand on the Vikings then’
Few hours later he asked if he gets a finders fee for helping me make the bet. I told him he could have all my winnings (because I didn’t make the bet as I don’t gamble)
Vikings had only 3 net passing yards and won by 13. How? Six turnovers in the game by Detroit, they had EIGHT combined in Weeks 1-16.
The other crazy thing to think about is we won a game where we had five turnovers so. We had three turnovers across 14 games prior to this shit show
Sad Texan noises
I got this joke
Football is a sport that makes 31 franchises sad every year.
It was like watching them lose to the Commanders last year. Came into the game with the best offense in the league…..and that offense absolutely shit the bed against a completely inferior team. I think they had five turnovers.
Tbf, the Vikings have one of, if not the best, defenses in the league. They only allowed 1 passing TD in the last 7 games.
The real question is how did their dumpster fire of a offense put up 23.
When your defense forces six turnovers you get really good field position
Several turnovers in FG range and a jet sweep TD.
Their defense knows how to close Goff pocket and have been for the past two years. Im glad were put we need to chill and recoup. Shore up our o line and defense and get healthy secondary
The answer for offense is a golden leg going 3-3 and a very lucky run
“Completely inferior team” man if only there was some sort of way to tell who is the better team. Perhaps a contest of sorts? Like both teams play some sort of “football” game against each other? They could even do it twice since they’re in the same division! Surely the results of both games would tell us who is the completely inferior team.
Detroit had a bad day to have a bad day.
On the bright side, the people who took Jared Goff's family hostage have probably let them go now.
Not including downs right? Cause I'm pretty sure they had 5 of those against the Eagles 😂
Yeah turnovers typically don’t include turnovers on downs. I would say I’m surprised they didn’t have any turnover on downs today based on the result but they barely held on to the ball long enough to make it to fourth down
Understood, TOs meaning forced most of the time.
Pickens plays for the Cowboys...
I don't understand, why do they have 3 passing yards if brosmer had 51? How do you lose passing yards? I'm new to this
He was sacked 7 times for a total loss of 48 yards.
Net passing = total yards gained from forward passes (51) - yards lost from sacks (48)
Wow I never knew that. Thanks dude
Home team advantage in Christmas and a freakish defensive display. That’s how
51 passing yards.
Hard to win with 6 turnovers...
Should be hard to win with 3 passing yards…
Stoppable force meets movable object
As someone who's watched a lot of Bears games, I can confirm it's hard to win with only 3 passing yards.
Average Bears fan experience since 1987.
Kind of wild for them to have a guy like Caleb now
Hey, that sounds vaguely like Rex Grossman slander.
Hey, that sounds vaguely like [insert most any Bears QB since the 90s] slander
Whenever someone says, "You can't make it to the Superbowl without a Top [number from 5-10] QB" I casually point to the sign that says "Rex Grossman led the Bears to the Superbowl in 2006".
I had more yards than that going to the toilet after my Christmas dinner.
Well it wasn't easy. They looked like dogshit on offense outside of maybe 5 plays.
Tbf, you don't need passing yards when you just keep getting the ball already in field goal range
we won with 5 before
6-0 no less, nearly impossible…even when your opponent has 3 net yard passing.
Reminds me of Jim Mora’s rant
Slugfest, vikings defense won this game lmao, they played excellently though
Every time an RB got the ball he was taken down immediately. The Vikings defense was all over them from the first snap.
Im convinced that if we had a top 5 quarterback, we'd look like super bowl favorites right now. Huge letdown for this defense to miss the playoffs
Vikings keep trading them away
Who did we trade away? Darnold and jones both left in free agency. We made offers to them. (Also I wouldn't call either of them a top 5 QB)
This would have been an absolute nightmare blowout if the Vikings D had a competent offense today
For real, if you told me a team’s defense forced 6 turnovers and ~220 yards, I’d have assumed it was a 3+ TD blowout.
Been like that all season for them.
Flores should get a head coaching job this off-season.
He won't. The lawsuit is still ongoing, and even then I think he's untouchable.
Does Miami have any rivalries left? Buffalo or the Jets should hire Flores to troll Miami.
Pretty sure they settled.
He's absolutely good enough to be a head coach. The only real question is:
1 - is the lawsuit going to prevent him from getting a job?
2 - does he even want a head coaching job?
3 - how much are the Vikings willing to pay him.
It might be the best option for everyone if the Vikings just pay him HC money to keep him around for another few years
They don’t deserve to be in the playoffs after that performance.
Or trying to hurt their players like sun god in that STUPID FUCKING SUICIDE BALL THROW WITH 1 MIN left
I am also not a Vikings fan, but fucking idiots
Seth Rollins was right
Put Harrison Smith in the Hall of Fame
We’re hoping
I'm one of you
I went to high school with him!!
what the hell happened to their window? how did it slam closed so quickly?
It’s why it’s so painful to come up short, you still lose coaches to other team and have to pay your own guys. Also just some awful injury luck.
Absolutely trash injury luck. At one point this season the lions were down 20 players.
The center tonight (partially responsible for two of the turnovers) was not even good enough to be on the practice squad at the beginning of the year.
Lets also note the 3? games we lost by 1 TD where the refs took back a TD on the Lions
They need to spend at least 2 picks on the offensive line, and maybe figure out what the other teams have on the refs
Their interior offensive line collapsing happened to coincide with their quarterback's main weakness.
Not being able to throw while lying on his back?
It's clear that Frank Ragnow needs to be put in the Lions ring of honor immediately
Or just put back in the game, he tried to come back but was injured lol
NFL parity + awful OL + defensive injuries. Two bad seasons in a row is more concerning than one.
I would hardly call it slammed shut. They still have a ton of good players and have drafted well. A new OC, a third place schedule, and some better injury luck and they could be back in the mix next year.
Third place? That’s a bit presumptive!
Oh shoot you’re right. Jeez I didn’t realize they might finish 4th if the vikings finish with the same record or better.
"3rd place schedule" means they play an 11+ win NFC West team, the Colts, and Washington.
Window is definitely not closed:
Season result shouldn't be that shocking all things considered, but they still have a top 5 roster if healthy and they aren't losing anyone to free agency. Throw in a last place schedule and add another draft class into the mix... They can absolutely be right back at the top next year.
The truth is that Ben Johnson was the secret to the Lions' success. They'll be better than this next year, but they won't be contenders.
Not sure how no one mentioned the coaching staff all dipped for HC spots/promotions for other teams last offseason
Plus they have been like #1 in injuries for the last couple years which has decimated their defense especially. If you look at the stats this year their offensive numbers are among the top of the league.

So all they need next year is a brand new coaching staff and new players. Gotcha
They don’t even need new OC/DC they’re fine at the moment in that regard. The Lions just need players to stay healthy.
It reminds me so much of the eagles in 2023. We were 10-1 at the time coming off a sb appearance (lions didn't make the SB last year but they were supposed to be the nfc favorite coming into the year). Who knows, maybe they get a new OC next year and go to the Superbowl in a similar vain.
They Lions'd it.
The dude calling the plays is now a Chicago Bear.
Same old Detroit Lions.
I miss the brand new Lions :(
Their defenses don't have a clue Lions
Harrison is a HOFer and the Vikings swept the lions with 0 qb play
Hitman is a HOFer
What kind of blackmail does the Eagle family have on the NFL? Those guys are awful.
At least it wasn't Joe Buck. Count your blessings on that
Lions went 2-5 since Amon-Ra did the Trump dance in the Washington end zone.
The Tigers went 3-13 after the 9/11 game where multiple players did the same dance.
The air dicking dance? Just looked it up. ‘Twas the twist.
Sounds like something I'd hear on Fox News.
Men, I am just glad this season is over, the last weeks were horrible to watch...
Not just this game, this was generally an awful football day.
Max Brosmer
That man helped dagger the game with 3 net passing yards. Respect.
I know, right?
Lions started the year as one of the most promising teams and are now basically on par with the Dolphins. Yes I’m a dolphins fan.
Detroit was HORRIBLE.
Three short week games in a season should not be allowed, nor should Christmas games. Many of these players did not want to play today and I don’t blame them. Coupled with our absurd amount of injuries and you have a disgruntled team ready to fly to Cancún.
Christmas games suck so bad. Rather (and did) watch a film with the family. Incessant need to shove the product where it doesnt need to be

Skol
If you lose to Max Brosmer you shouldn't be in any playoffs
SKOL
Vikings out here ruining seasons. I love it
Had the privilege of going up against Goff and Gibbs in my fantasy finals 🙏
The final short pass to Gibbs with DET having no way to win was annoying but I’ll take 6 points against from an RB1
And the old Lions are back. It was nice not sucking for the first time in my life while it lasted
Back to another 30 year slumber. This lions fan looks forward to the 2056 season when I’m 80. Go lions
Two seasons where injuries devastated the team in which one season goes 15-2 and the other is like 8-9. You are overreacting here. The Lions are fine for another 5 years
Skol! I’ll take it!
We need Ben back
I’ve been checked out since the Rams loss, we haven’t looked good since September
Dan Campbell should give up play calling
Homer Simpson backs into bushes and comes out wearing a Pistons jersey
This was not the game they anticipated when it was scheduled as the prime 4:30 ET Christmas Day game. Two .500 teams that were 15-2 and 14-3 last year.
This further proves McVay was right in trading Jared Goff
I genuinely think the "white out" stadium affected this game. Goff didn't just throw interceptions; there were an inordinate number of tipped passes as well.

The Vikings started MAX BROSMER, an UNDRAFTED ROOKIE. Dan Campbell gets no excuses.
And he passed for 3 yds
And the Lions lost that game lol
Never saw a quarterback with two blind sides before
Funny how both teams were feeling themselves after lighting up Dallas 😂
Man, one of these years, can one of these lousy years have the Lions at least get a little bit close to playing the SB?
A couple years ago they were in the nfccg and were up 24-7 over SF before shitting the bed in the second half. Doesn't get much closer than that other than actually playing in the SB.
what happened? Thought they were a shoo in after the first couple of weeks.
We had a bunch of injuries build up in our Secondary again. Literal practice squad guys were filling in and then getting injured and sitting out. This game we just were constantly turning over. Which we only had 8 all season and 6 today.

Lions did good in October though just one loss.
Idk I don't follow them but you just said first couple of weeks.
Lions didn’t look so good with Ben Johnson not calling the plays and Mr Dreadlocks their D coordinator I’d say they miss Glenn too.
Hard to play defense you want to play if you have backups of backups in the game for you. Detroit would be fine if injuries didn’t pile up two years in a row.
Down 6 with 4min remaining they kick a FG? Wtf, your seasons basically over, go for the 1st down.
Brutal. Such a strong start.
Ben Johnson is so good
Time to trade some guys away for picks
They had a glorious 2 years lol FTL!
On to baseball season, where the tigers and twins will compete for the final wildcard spot.
Oh spring!
Oh joy!
“Maybe next year…Since 1958”
This is the classic Lion's Christmas present for their fans. <stares blankly at TV> WHAT YEAR IS IT?
Lions doing Lion things. Absolutely pathetic performance from players and coaches.
SOL
What a terrible game to watch on primetime Christmas day
If you have 6 turnovers… you could only be Detroit. That is something special. That is, I have to put the rock down bc they are coming for my kneecaps and house.
and we all know the vikings will tempt their fans with the scent of possibility and hope only to knee cap them at the very last minute with sheer torturous pain
Goff just took a massive shit all over his bed. Actually it was more like 5 gigantic steaming shits.
Lions? Like the circus animal?
I thought they were already eliminated before this game?
No they weren’t. Needed to win out and have other teams lose.
Gibbs was so good this year. What as waste.
Lions had more turnovers than Vikes had passing yards.
As someone who had Gibbs in the fantasy championship, this was an incredibly frustrating game to watch.
COLDBLOODED
