What news sources do you use for world news, politics, broad news in general? Are there any good Marxist sources? I was just looking through the CGTN, but it's literally the CPC newspaper, so I'm afraid it might be too "China is never wrong and China is great" all the time.

I was also curious if anyone would rather use generally considered "leftist" or "unbiased" news sources such as NYT and CNN, although I find those to be "unbiased" but actually very capitalist.

  • I read a combination of things. Being a communist in Canada I read People's Voice, a fantastic newspaper by the Communist Party of Canada. I also read the CBC, Al Jazeera and other sources. It's important not to consume a single source, and to ensure that you're consuming working-class media primarily.

  • Status Coup with Jordan Chariton and others on YouTube

The Rational National with David Doel

    Katie Halper

I watch the bs news too just to keep up with the propaganda

  • Two good sources are CounterPunch and ZNet. There are not sources for day-to-day news but carry useful analysis from Left perspectives. Neither has a "line" and will publish writers from across the Left.

  • Novara media does some good work if you're looking for UK news

  • Democracy Now, while not socialist, has excellent coverage of global topics that are usually ignored by mainstream media. Their guests are usually top tier as well.

  • Tbh you'd be more informed from independent media on social media than anything "name brand"

It's literally all lies and you can see publications like NYT slowly beat war drums over Venezuela

  • Most Socialist organizations have a newspaper. DSA has two main ones, and then most of their factions have their own. They're not going to cover the number of things a mainstream news outlet will, but the reporting will be higher quality on the issues they do cover.

If you want daily news coverage with high-quality journalism, I recommend DemocracyNow! They do an hour long broadcast every day and are far to the left of most news outlets, though they're not quite Marxist. They do tend to go into the gory details about the atrocities being committed by the US and its allies, which is a reason I don't recommend them to everyone.

Mainstream Media, the only source I use is NPR. They're far from perfect, but you can read between the lines most of the time, and they're more fact based than ideology based editorially. I also check NPR to see what the informed liberals are hearing.

I check the socials of politicians like Bernie Sanders, Ed Markey, and Jim McGovorn (McGovorn is my Rep) to get information about what the US Congress is doing. Sometimes, I check C-SPAN and read legislation, too.

Finally, I get a decent amount of news from the American Friends Service Committee and Friends Committee on National Legislation, which are the two big Quaker political organizations in the US. I also get information from the global information network Quakers maintain for ourselves (we have people on the ground IN Gaza, among other places). Quaker sources are probably not what YOU'RE looking for but if you have a local organization that you are a part of look to see what they are publishing, and what information you can gain from your social connections. I find a lot of people know far more than you'd expect about what's really going on.

  • NYT is my favorite but it is heavily biased. This doesn’t mean that its reporting is false, but that it overreports on things that leftists don’t care much about and underreports on things that leftists do care about.

For example, it’s hard to find regular reporting on the genocide in Gaza but Trump controversies regularly make the top story.

Edit: I think all news networks are biased in that they need to carefully choose a tiny number of stories to report on each day.

  • I just scroll Twitter and form my understanding on every event I see from multiple sources

  • Grey Zone is very good.
