This was in Georgia! I was a bit worried bc the weather app said it’d be in the low 30s last night, but thankfully the little bird was gone by morning!
I was curious so I looked this up. Lil vibrating pinecones staying alive while it’s freezing out!
Birds stay alive in cold weather by fluffing their feathers, creating layers of air and feathers. They also have more mitochondria packed into their cells, which increases the capacity of the cells to produce ATP, an energy-carrying molecule that allows birds to continue shivering to maintain their temperature despite cold conditions.
Awww, they love it there! Shame I don’t have CARW’s where I live.
Sweet lil pinecones. I hope ours went deeper south cause it’s cold!
