• This being the 40th biggest city in China, one gets a better idea of the true scale and number of large Chinese cities.

Combine the population of America, Canada, Britain and the European Union together and you get roughly 900 million people.

    China has 1.4 Billion people.

Having said that, OP is wrong with his statement. On paper it’s the 34th largest, going by official district measurements, but its urban area is far larger (7.5m people) which would put it firmly in the top 20 largest urban areas, and it anchors the southern end of the Yangtze Delta metro region which is a very built up and economically productive region of China.

  • North of Ningbo, they have linked a series of islands to the mainland via some really long bridges. The Island of Zhu Jia Jian actually has really decent beaches. And you can surf there.

  • If it’s the 40th biggest city, how come I seem to know its name? Is it famous for something??

One of China's busiest cargo ports

It was one of the 19th century treaty ports, along with Shanghai and “Canton.” I took East Asian history and that’s how I know it.

  • Ahh my Mumbai is crying in a corner...

Meanwhile Delhi is dying in a corner…….

  • If you squint it looks a bit like Chicago, though of course only a corner of it and not the whole skyline.
