Isn’t it a standard joke of Paris architecture critics is that the best apartment/office in Paris is in the Montparnasse Tower —- because then you don’t have to look at it every day.
I went there one evening, and there were maybe just a dozen other people there. All of Paris sprawled out in front of you, with the Eiffle Tower as the center, LA Defense business discrict behind that with the sun setting behind that. Insane view
There was a saying that’s something along the lines of “people went up thr Eiffel Tower just because it’s the only place where they couldn’t see it”, though over time the Eiffel Tower became well loved and essentially a symbol of Paris.
Something like that, idk, I’m not Fr*nch.
Either way I don’t think this is gonna apply to Tour Montparnasse, because it looks like a fugly black monolith, and it’s always gonna be a fugly black monolith. At least the Eiffel Tower actually looks good, Montparnasse should’ve been built in La Defense or something.
I have similar feeling as I have with a lot of towers built in my own home city of Helsinki. It's not the worst in the world, but given how much it sticks out, you'd hope it to be a lot nicer than this.
In a balanced district with lots of high rises, it's not a building I'd specifically hate.
They really picked the absolute worst design for a skyscrapper in Paris. Not only does it stick out horribly it also just looks ugly. Even in a full skyline it would be a bad building
It's big, it's ugly, and I'm glad Paris put a stop to skyscrapers after that and moved them all to La Defense. But it does have an upper deck with a great view, much less crowded than the Tower.
I kind of like it. Paris is insanely beautiful but can be monotonous architecturally. Someone I’ve gone at the base of the Montparnasse just to feel a bit of something else

ugly and doesn't fit its surroundings
I love it for what it is, but not necessarily for its architectural grace
What does that mean?
i like that it's ugly
A rare case where a tall building really shouldn’t have been built. It’s unattractive and out of place
Monolithic
Just out of place.
Pretty dull tbh
I like it
Best rooftop in Paris

Great view from the top back to the Eiffel Tower 😉
How in the heck did it pass City approvals to be built in the first place?
Climbable
I don’t hate it but it needs a reclad. It would be great with better glass cladding
I want to believe there are plans to do exactly that. I remember seeing info on it while visiting.
There are plans to do that, and they recently put a test piece of it on the building

The crown looks ridiculous but otherwise that looks so much better!

Abomination. Collapse it while vacant
should be in La Défense
I like it, but it should have been built in La Defense not in the middle of Paris as it just looks out of place
Ungood
Point of reference when I am wandering the streets of Paris.
It was gorgeous in Sim City 3000
It’s bad.

Spires and trees are aesthetically nonpariel. Brutalism should not exist.
Tour Montparnasse is not a Brutalist building.
Downvoted only for misuse of brutalism
