It was probably Ralof or Hadvar, since they were annoyed by whatever levelling antics you pulled to get to level 5+ instead of just leaving like they wanted.
Imagine being such a heinous person that the man you trauma-bonded through a wartime POW execution and dragon attack, who told you that you would meet his family, calls a hit on you with ritual magic the second you’re out of earshot
Or in my case, more recently, immediately after grabbing the captain's key but before unlocking the door, in_fury_ated him while repeatedly setting him on fire.
Stand outside of the doors of Solitude, aim at the mountain peaks on the left hand side and cast Mage light, it will level up alteration crazy.
If you get any mount that doesn't die, the unicorn easiest to get early game, you can level up any one handed, two handed, shield, bow, destruction and ECT....
Also if you sneak attack in Helgen, you can level up one handed and sneak.
After you complete the companions story, you can buy training for them and then take back your money because they can all become followers.
Precaution to all and any of these, you level up, but so do all the enemies. Also anytime I've done any of these, I will more than likely start over. Playing the game will level things up as they should be and will keep you engaged.
Equip armour of choice, a shield, and a healing spell.
Find a convenient wolf on whiterun plain, preferably close to some rocks. Get the rocks behind you and the wolf in front. Block until staminas out., do nothing till health is low, Heal until magicas out, repeat.
Levels block, resto and the armor type(s) at the same time.
Second story of Dragonsreach, start sneaking into one of the pillars overlooking the banquet hall, there’s a fair number of people there at most hours, and you should level up sneak quickly.
From a RP perspective, maybe that's why you fled into Skyrim? Maybe you thought the Dark Brotherhood wouldn't find you there and you didn't know they're literally headquartered there
It could be the other way around. Which is what is theorized. There is no dark brotherhood presence in Hammerfell IIRC. So your character was attempting to flee for safety. And if you kill three assassins sent after then go to sleep, you get kidnapped as well. Which means you should also be a potential option for the question of someone in this room who has a contract on their head
This is my favorite interpretation. I've taken to doing the Dark Brotherhood questline first in my playthroughs because my character realizes (after failing to escape Skyrim) that it's better to pay in service than with their life
My current character is RPing as her family is the DB in some other part of the world and they put the hit out on her in Skyrim so she simply eliminates them all instead of joining them because there’s a reason she left in the first place.
Fun fact! Wabbit hunting as a spowt dates back to the Weman empiwe. As a consequence, wabbit bweeding bwought the wabbit population of Skywim to cwazy heights
It has nothing to do with you committing crimes or anything, it can happen to any player character before joining the Dark Brotherhood. The most reasonable explanation is that it's a result of something the player character did before the start of the game.
The leading theory is the player character had the hit on them before Helgen, and they’re trying to get out of Skyrim attempting to evade it when they get caught in that Imperial ambush.
No jokes aside, this is theorized to be tied to the dark brotherhood questline. The whole quest with being invited is what it stems from. It is believed that the reason you, the db, is trying to escape across a border is because the db is running from these assassins when the db was caught. Proof of this is when you decide to off Astrid instead of joining, she will say, “well done.” This is in regard to who has the contract, and it is believed the db is, not any of the three captives.
No one actually put a hit out on you, this is just one of the many random encounters that can happen as you traverse the worldspace. You don't actually need to do anything for the Dark Brotherhood assassin encounter to trigger
Man the bounty system in Skyrim is so odd sometimes lol. While my game is heavily modded, I was doing the start to the mages guild quest and got to Saarthal, and did all of that. Tell me why Arniel fucking Gane put a damn hit out on me no less than an hour after we got out of there. For context, in this save I chose random origin from alternate start and the one it gave me happened to be me having a 1000 bounty in each hold so I can't talk to guards at all except in Winterhold because I became Thane there lol. This game cracks me up sometimes.
Have yet to get a hit on me this time, but I've seen 2 assassins killing npcs so far. One was in whiterun, that stupid khajiit failed even tho her victim was literally naked bcs she tried in broad daylight and got her shit rocked by the guards.. the other was in thieves guild, nobody gave a damn lol it's like a normal tuesday for them
I somehow got a hit from the husband in warmaiden's on a fresh character. Like I walked in for the first time, didnt even get to talk to him and 3 mercs came in from the different entrances trying to get me and when I looted the bodies it had the paper lol
Yeah, it's weird you can never ask about this. I once kept one of these letters and was hoping that when I got into the Dark Brotherhood, I could ask about it, but nope, nothing. I also question why they would let you join after you likely kill dozens of the assassins they send after you, I guess TLD is the reason the Brotherhood is down to like five members.
I steal so much from begining of game my dsrk hit comes in the middle of riverwood. Last time i was playing a mage and accidentally hit gerdur with a frenzy spell. Thankfully she came to help me lol
Yeah, it don't take long for Astrid to start sending out bounty hunters. Somehow she knows you're going to be a threat to her power at some point. The following is my thoughts on the matter...
Since no one could hear the night mother at that point, instead of the dark sacrament, it should read more like, "The coin purse has already been exchanged."
My guess is you maybe stole something on the way out or killed a wrong someone.
Astrid fears your potential. The Night Mother sent her a DM saying that she'd either get snuffed sitting on a bookshelf or that you'd join the red-and-black clown squad and usurp her.
I got one shortly after leaving Riverwood on my current play through. It was pretty obviously Sven, given I told Camilla that his letter was fake. He did that sacrament damned quick - I was only half way to Whiterun and it was the same day I'd told her!
When there's stuff like that going on I like to think about it like the past of my character is coming to annoy them. I always think a bit of "my" past when I start a Playthrough, for Skyrim it's oftentimes the story of an ex-bandit or an inhabitant of a city in another province, even as a nord, and I like to think that there are some things they left unfinished, and pretty determined ennemies that don't mind the hassle of contacting the dark brotherhood in Skyrim to fullfill their revenge or tie up their loose ends
Somebody is hunting wabbit...
I have heard it's wabbit season
If you got Elmer's attention already you bout to get Fudd
Fudd around, find out?
Duck season!
Wabbit season!
Wabbit Season
Duck season, FIRE!
OPEN SEASON

Never meet your heroes, kids.
Duck season!
Duck season
DUCK SEASON!
A Wascally Wabbit.
Imagine our Noght Mother saying: "approach me Wabbit"
Khajiit admits that he read this in the voice of Elmer Fudd. And it is very funny.
Indeed
Is poaching a thing in game? I know it is in Kingdom Come
It was probably Ralof or Hadvar, since they were annoyed by whatever levelling antics you pulled to get to level 5+ instead of just leaving like they wanted.
Imagine being such a heinous person that the man you trauma-bonded through a wartime POW execution and dragon attack, who told you that you would meet his family, calls a hit on you with ritual magic the second you’re out of earshot
Tbf he probably stabbed him in the bear cave for an hour with a knife
Or in my case, more recently, immediately after grabbing the captain's key but before unlocking the door, in_fury_ated him while repeatedly setting him on fire.
It was Ralof
It was Elmer Fudd clearly.
The requirement for that encounter is character level 5. (they stop after joining or destroying)
I did hammer on Ralof till 60 in one-handed
Bruh. And you're confused why there's a hit out on you?
Honestly 💀
Can’t fault him then
"I beat the shit out of a guy. Why is he mad at me?"
Obviously it was Ralof who put the hit on you then
Ok wait what other tricks are there?
You can cast soul trap on a dead body to get conjuration xp
crouch behind any of the kneeling greybeards in high hrothgar and slice them repeatedly with the weakest dagger you can find for infinite sneak xp
OMG STOP
That is so evil.

Precaution to all and any of these, you level up, but so do all the enemies. Also anytime I've done any of these, I will more than likely start over. Playing the game will level things up as they should be and will keep you engaged.
The taking companion's training money thing is fixed by the unofficial patch afaik. so that won't work if you play a patched version.
Ah, wolf is better. Mudcrabs were too strong when I took this approach 😆
Second story of Dragonsreach, start sneaking into one of the pillars overlooking the banquet hall, there’s a fair number of people there at most hours, and you should level up sneak quickly.
Sneak, 1H, 2H, block, and destruction magic can all be maxed out in the Hegen dungeon.
Is the deal that Hadvar and Roland are essential?
Yee
Can you actually do that? I had no idea
Greedy one, you hit him with one hand
Use hammer to improve one-handed is crazy)
I’m dying dude. Hit him so many times he turned into Elmer Fudd.
From a RP perspective, maybe that's why you fled into Skyrim? Maybe you thought the Dark Brotherhood wouldn't find you there and you didn't know they're literally headquartered there
Reminds me of some early dialogue from Half-Life 2:
"I wouldn't say that too loud. This is his base of operations."
Speaking of Half-Life 2, the intros juxtapose pretty well if you squint.
I'll masturbate to this, I would give you an award if I could.
You don't get kidnapped for killing the assassins, you get kidnapped for killing grelod and getting the reward from the boy
Daffy and Elmer aint messin around this time!
WUN WABBIT
Woah lucky
You've been a bit too wascally this time.
"I want you to eliminate Wabbit by any means necessary. I have performed the Black Sacrament, I want this poor fool dead.
I believe you have already received payment, failure is not an option.
~ E. Fudd"
Huuuhuhuhuhuh
It’s wabbit season in Skyrim!
You know what you did, you wascally wabbit.
It was Alduin.
Got to have a backup plan.
https://i.redd.it/n07d5rou44dg1.gif
I keep waiting to see when they’re gonna run out of posters
One of these days, I'll let you know, I'll be watching till they do
Damn Elmer fudd is really sick of you.
https://i.redd.it/sqwg9k3jx4dg1.gif
Well if you’d stop being a wascally wabbit. 😄💜
Elmer Fudd got sick of Bugs bullshit and did the Black Sacrament.
Did you find this letter on Elmer Fudd?
Did the headsman survive and now he’s embarrassed and wants to get a head?
Hey there it is again
I wondered who noticed!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The leading theory is the player character had the hit on them before Helgen, and they’re trying to get out of Skyrim attempting to evade it when they get caught in that Imperial ambush.

I’ve never seen this theory before but now I can’t unsee it. It’s quite brilliant actually.
SHHHHHHH!!! IM HUNTING FOR WABBITS!!
That's no ordinary wabbit
There is a theory that this is the reason the dragonborn was trying to cross the border when the stormcloaks get ambushed.
KILL DA WABBIIIIIT
KILL DA WABBIIIIIT
With my sword and magic hewmet!!
Wascally wabbit
Its wabbit season
fuckin elmer fudd
No one actually put a hit out on you, this is just one of the many random encounters that can happen as you traverse the worldspace. You don't actually need to do anything for the Dark Brotherhood assassin encounter to trigger
Pick pocketing everyone that was alive?
Sssh. I'm hunting wbbit....huehuehuehuehuehue
Wabbit season already?
someone stole Vilod's juniper berry mead.
https://preview.redd.it/ww2upozap3dg1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4959de5849ea7eef5f298fd48933e76bf46fd99d
Shhh! It's wabbit season!
Duck Season
Empire does the black sacrament for all prisoners just in case one or two escape.
“Which way did he go, which way did he go?!?!?”
Must be wabbit season. Bad time for you to travel to Skyrim
Careful. I heard they've got an assassin well versed in dealing with Wabbits
Character backstory in Skyrim? That's new
Well you also have a chance to receive some gold from a dead relative as well. Mr/ Ms. NameHere passed away at some point, so here's a hundred gold.
Lmao you named yourself Wabbit?
{{Why I Came to Skyrim}}: WB Cartoon Edition
Wascawy wabbit!
Dark brotherhood assassins are a random encounter, not a radiant (triggered by something you did) event.
I can't believe this hasn't been posted yet
Ozzy Fudd, Wabbit Slayer
Maybe you're just to wascawwy for someone
Pretty sure this just happens randomly to anyone, no? Got it pretty early on in my most recent vanilla save.
I feel like you were asking for this.
Have yet to get a hit on me this time, but I've seen 2 assassins killing npcs so far. One was in whiterun, that stupid khajiit failed even tho her victim was literally naked bcs she tried in broad daylight and got her shit rocked by the guards.. the other was in thieves guild, nobody gave a damn lol it's like a normal tuesday for them
I only came here to read all the Elmer Fudd comments. I was not disappointed!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I would love to think that your name is rabbit but everyone just has a lisp
Try asking for a black duck
IIRC this starts happening randomly aftef level 10 or 20, unless you are a member of the dark brotherhood.
it can also happen instead of having thugs sent after you after doing certain quests, bug again only if you haven't joined the brotherhood.
That cant be right, its clearly duck season.
Just kill the db and nobody can send assassins after you
Kill the Wabbit!
Alduin mopping up the left overs.
Gonna hunt me a Wabbit
I somehow got a hit from the husband in warmaiden's on a fresh character. Like I walked in for the first time, didnt even get to talk to him and 3 mercs came in from the different entrances trying to get me and when I looted the bodies it had the paper lol
The hired thugs came to get me almost immediately into my playthrough too
Somebody’s wascally.
The Empire really wanted you dead.
A hit on yourself lol
Alduin’s getting creative
what start did you choose?
when you crossed the border, it was to flee from the inn you stole a sweetroll from. the innkeeper probably did the ritual
Alduin just trying his hand at hiring assassins to kill the dragonborn before he becomes a problem.
Wandering Bard took offense to your demeanor
Alduin is angry you got away with being alive. Shame on you.
Alduin
I asume its one of DLC BBEG who know your potential before you even know it
they hate yo ass bro
I steal so much from begining of game my dsrk hit comes in the middle of riverwood. Last time i was playing a mage and accidentally hit gerdur with a frenzy spell. Thankfully she came to help me lol
Alduin clearly had a backup plan for if they failed to kill you themself.
Its propably alduin
is this game check you get prior to discovering the dark brotherhood? i feel like i recognize the name astrid/this note.
Early game on a high difficulty - a DB assassin is going to cause you a lot of problems
Makes you nostalgic for morrowind
I'm noticing too many Mofo's are able to get in touch with me, easily. This shit isn't like real life at all!
Your past crimes have caught up with you
Based heading west from the guardian stones enjoyer
Sounds like your character has a backstory
Honestly, I collect those like badges of honor.
Signing my name on the hit order of my secret murder cult because my handwriting is so pretty and I practiced my signature.
The Imperials and Thalmor must REALLY want you gone
I was just going to blame the Captain who ordered you to be executed.
You might not have been on the list, but by golly she was going to make sure you died anyway.
Alduin probably
They know why you were on the chopping block...
Having failed to stop them at Helgen, Alduin turns to more conventional means to defeat the Dragonborn before they grow too powerful.
Yeah, it don't take long for Astrid to start sending out bounty hunters. Somehow she knows you're going to be a threat to her power at some point. The following is my thoughts on the matter...
https://preview.redd.it/fcnexawrs5dg1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b932ea30e33d263bb19dd5578d0341a3589b576d
Alduin recognized what you are and decided to delegate the killing of you
Who or what is a wabbit?
Alduin wants you gone man 😭
Nobody escapes Legate Rikke's chopping block.
It was alduin
Alduin if he wasn't a dumbass /s
Could be from how you were trying to cross the border, same as us. You had a life before the game started!
It was Alduin lol
You were supposed to sneak past the bear and leave him alone. Now you gotta pay.
Since no one could hear the night mother at that point, instead of the dark sacrament, it should read more like, "The coin purse has already been exchanged."
My guess is you maybe stole something on the way out or killed a wrong someone.
Elenwen had it out for you.
You accidentally killed a friendly npc while escaping and news spreads fast in those parts. Enjoy your notoriety, you’ll never stop seeing those. 😂
Must be Alduin
You should control better those sticky fingers
Astrid fears your potential. The Night Mother sent her a DM saying that she'd either get snuffed sitting on a bookshelf or that you'd join the red-and-black clown squad and usurp her.
Black Sacrament it is!
Got to be those blasted elves.
I got one shortly after leaving Riverwood on my current play through. It was pretty obviously Sven, given I told Camilla that his letter was fake. He did that sacrament damned quick - I was only half way to Whiterun and it was the same day I'd told her!
would love to think Todd somehow coded it so that if you name yourself Wabbit you’re perpetually hunted but i know that’s not a thing 😔
Alduin trying to finish the job but is too lazy to do it himself.
Whose sweet roll did you steal?
Did you pick pocket someone on your way out?
Awww someone stole your sweet roll?
Just started replaying, got this letter, forgot I named my character bingle and almost collapsed a lung from laughing so hard
Alduin, probably.
I had a hit on me from a vampire fledgling I sniped with a arrow an looted 🤣
That b*tch. She might send someone without a black sacrament.
