Correct. "Israelis" are not Israelites. Exiled Israelites already assimilated to the local communities living whereever they were exiled to; meanwhile, Israelites who stayed were already assimilated into Judahites (partial ancestors of diaspora Jews and principal ancestors to Palestinian Jews, Christians, and Muslims) or became the principal ancestors to Samaritans.
