• I like the f'd up teeth and torpedo tail

Grateful for your kindness, thank you.

  • Why does the tail look all messed up. And why is it missing its two front teeth?

Because it is AI, you can tell by the hands.

Or more how the teeth don’t follow have the normal looking contours. There are other hallucinations on their post history.

I am extremely against AI art but this person CLEARLY actually painted this. They have a post history full of paintings that are consistent in style, theming, and also go back several years!! Predating the genAI models!

I’m glad that people here are against AI slop but y’all HAVE to be more discerning here or you’re gonna lose the plot. I don’t know why the tail looks like that, it is a bit unnatural, but who knows what reference photo they used. Maybe this artist uses AI ref photos which is another conversation, but I’m entirely inclined to believe this is a real painting. Please do some genuine digging before you accuse!

They also have an orca with a backwards dorsal, a shark with two sets of eyes and an octopus with more than eight tentacles with the suckers on the wrong side in their history.

While it is possible this is their artistic style, those errors are much more common hallucinations with AI.

That’s why I suggested that they might use reference photos generated with AI. The Starbucks bear one is especially giving AI to me - but just painted after generation. They have a painting studio that appears consistently in their photos and all that. So it might be a mix, which is certainly disappointing if so, but I do want to highlight that they were painting prior to the AI image generation that we have right now. 5 years ago it was NOT able to paint the stuff they were painting.

It’s odd to use AI images for reference though when there is so much documentation of these animals.

Also even with the reference, you would expect someone familiar with these animals to correct the hallucinations like the inaccurate teeth, dorsal fins, caudal fins, etc…

I completely agree, but like… how else do you explain this person’s painting history? Their pre-AI paintings look real and genuine. They ask for feedback in some older posts, even. Then genAI rolls around and paintings in their studio pop up that look like AI has messed them up.

When you google things like “white shark with mouth open”, you know what pops up now? AI art. I do expect artists to do their due diligence in choosing reference photos so maybe they picked one without realizing it, but maybe they intentionally generated it. We won’t know unless they say so. That’s why I bring up the starbucks bear photo - that’s a bonafide AI style picture but it’s clearly an actual painting. Straddles a weird line.

Thank you so much for taking the timeI genuinely appreciate the thought, nuance, and fairness in what you said. You’re right on a lot of points. I’ve been painting long before generative AI existed in its current form, and my work, style, and subjects have been consistently over many years. Every piece I share is hand-painted, and I document the process openly because transparency matters to me. I completely understand skepticism around AI right now, and much of it is deceptive. We artists face a very tough world with efforts that aren't appreciated by many. But discernment is important, just as you said. As for references: like most artists, I use photographs from real photographers, sometimes interpretation, sometimes it’s mixing various images to paint. I really respect that you acknowledged both sides without jumping to conclusions. Conversations like this are healthy. Thank you for speaking up thoughtfully, it honestly means a lot. 🙂

Cool. Then im copying that bitch

    Computer skills!

There's a famous big female in Guadalupe with a deformed tail fin. Forgot her name.

  • Skills

It’s AI. You can tell, from the tail, its teeth(or lack there of on one side), and its bottom jaw.

I can share the process shots :)

    Please do!! Looks great!!

I would love to, although image sharing in the comments isn't enabled! I have a Facebook up where you can see my work 🙂

Why does everyone say it’s ai?

    I really don't know lol

Might have to start taking pictures of each stage

I have all my process shots, but only GIF is sharable here

You can post more than one picture, I have before

  • The terror of a sharks mouth is in part to do with the pink fleshiness and if you want to instill an even more visceral reaction add deeper pinks and reds. When reds and greens and blues are combined they instill a sense of horror and apprehension in humans. The jaw is a little misaligned too but the colour definition could help correct that.

  • Very nice and the missing teeth add a touch of authenticity to the great beast as well. 👍🦈

    Thank you so much!

    You are very welcome. 💯👍

  • That is some dope AI work son!

I always post my hand painted art and working with passionately from 7 years mate! Be a lil kind

  • Masterpiece ✨️ 🦈 ✨️ 🦈

  • Even the headline is AI.

  • This is jaw-some! You’ve captured the love of the shark about to give someone a hug!

  • Fierce! Great job🦈

It’s AI. You can tell, from the tail, its teeth(or lack there of on one side), and its bottom jaw.

If you'd paint, you would have known as you zoom in to see the brush stokes

I appreciate the tips- will be more aware in the future- Thanks!

Hey! The reply was for the other comment who thought this was AI

Ah, I see now. Sorry about that. I hadn’t realized you’ve posted a couple of really cool pics I previously liked. Definitely Fierce work- look forward to seeing more!
