’m an extreme newbie but have had fabric cut and ironed waiting to get a machine to make a quilt. I got a machine for Christmas. I just didn’t have batting so I went to get some yesterday and start working on this quilt. I did no research and grabbed wrap-n-zap (it doesn’t help that my Michaels is terrible, they had no fleece options so I just grabbed one of the only things that said 100% cotton). I’ve already cut and sewed one of the bags i bought, can i continue or should i order fleece online?

  • I'm not a quilter, but I think that will work great! Lots of batting is polyester (in whole or part) and will melt in the microwave if you use it for projects like bowl cozies. So I guess they sell this stuff specifically marketed for those projects. It should be fine for any other use, as well!

That’s what i thought but wanted to make sure before I continue. I’m sooo antsy to get my hands on my machine some more!

  • Carry on -- this is just a more expensive cotton batting than the all-cotton battings not marketed for microwaving.

You can have 100% cotton batting with a polyester scrim, that's why it's more expensive and marketed specifically as safe for the microwave.

Yep. I got a ton of this on super sale (it was like 4 bucks a bag) and it's awesome. The only consideration is that because it lacks scrim, make sure it's stitched down in smaller areas to make sure it's secured properly. Otherwise it might shift/bunch a bit when washed.

Ok great. So I don’t have to undo what I’ve done 😄 I’ll go through the 4 bags I bought and when I need more I’ll get some cotton with the same weight and texture but cheaper. Thanks!

  • I think i missed what youre making - bags? either way, this stuff should be okay. it's possible it's thinner or cut to a certain size for making microwavable stuff, but pure cotton batting is perfectly usable 😊

    A quilt. Thank you!

OH! sweet. I think the only concern could be the size. I think it should be fine otherwise :)

  • I was sent two bolts of wrap n zap when I ordered cotton. It’s been working great in quilts. The drape is nice. The quilt is soft and warm. It crinkles well. Don’t hesitate to use it.

  • There are no rules with quilting. If you like it - keep it!

  • I have used bolts of it for bags and quilts and it is a favorite! Very dense and warm and washes really well. Quilt on!

  • This will still work as others have said. I get my iron nice and steaming and give the whole thing a good steam to reduce shrinkage since you can't really wash and dry it. Some say it isn't needed but I prefer it.
