A 1940s inspired dress I made!
This dress was made using my own self drafted pattern which I used a book called ‘Pattern Cutting for Lingerie, Beachwear and Leisurewear, 2nd Edition by Ann Haggar’ for references. I used the book to create my own basic pattern blocks and then adapted these blocks into the design I desired for this dress.
The dress is made from a red and green striped cotton fabric and a white spotted cotton fabric too.
This dress a pleated neckline with a contrast Peter Pan collar and a button stand fastening. It has puff sleeves with contrast cuffs and a contrast belt. It also features a circle skirt.
This dress was made to go Christmas shopping in and felt perfect for the occasion. Thank you to my wonderful partner u/cosmologii for the dress idea and pictures!
It’s giving Olive Oyl in the best way possible
We used to have candy striper nurses - reminds me a little of that! Beautiful work!
Beautiful! Im looking for that type of fabric to make a Dutch traditional style dress. This hits both of those itches.
Woah! 😍 suits you super well too!
Wow! I love how it was paired with a red shoe!

Would you consider taking the dress dress up to 2 inch below the knee and shorten sleeves? This pattern is a lot for a long dress.
If you shorten the hemline and the sleeves, this would open the dress up to pair with white gloves, stockings, a clutch and a sun hat!
I can see the 1950s influence then, and a few vintage accessories will bring the whole look together!
Love the neckline which is why I picture this with a set of cute white gloves.
I don’t think so!
It looks great on her as it is
Was a suggestion.
